Pub Chatter 7th Edition - February 14, 2021

WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE

Sonnet 17
By Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Busted Gulch Vol. 15 Update:

3Gun met with the sheriff of Carson City where he asked about Bella and CG. Sheriff Wise didn't have any information on the girls and 3Gun knew he had something to hide. Brody found Bella passed out in a hotel room. Both had questions for one another, but they wouldn't get answers until they met up with Myna and the sheriff again. Bella hoped CG was okay. Myna used CM to look for CG but she couldn't be found anywhere. With no leads, they went back to meet up with Brody and the sheriff.

Thank you MysteriousDryad for another great BG update.

Last week we talked about what are considered the very first love poems, if you jump forward a few thousand years and you will find, in truth, love poetry has changed little.  We still have men and women counting syllables, creating rhymes and perfecting their stanzas, chasing after the ultimate love poem.  Have any of them found it; the perfect combination of words, leading to the greatest love poem of all time?  Well, that is a matter of opinion.  We can, however, take a look at a few poems that have stood the test of time.

William Shakespeare (1564-1616) wrote - Sonnet 18:

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"

Lord Byron (1788-1824) gave us these lasting words in - She Walks in Beauty:

"She walks in beauty, like the night

of cloudless climes and starry skies:"

Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861) composed one of the most famous love poems ever –

Sonnet 43:

"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways."

E.E. Cummings (1894-1962) brought new life and a modern twist in his love poem - i carry your heart with me:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in

my heart) i am never without it (anywhere

The old saying is true, "Love is in the eye of the beholder."  So, it is with love poems.  Let us know what your favorite love poem is, down in the comments.  I have posted my favorite love poem above in the featured poem section.

We want to wish everyone a very happy "VALENTINE'S DAY"!!! The Poets Pub would not be what it is today without all of you, we love you all and we are very grateful to all the support you show the Pub!  Remember, your poetry is a 'love letter' to the universe!! Never stop writing and sharing your work!

So... keep those pens and keyboards flying!!

Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
