WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey Everyone!  Many of you know that the Pub has been struggling for the last 4 or 5 months now.  There seems to be many factors playing into the reason participation is down, some that we can address and some that we can't.

So, Bill and I have decided to try something new for the summer.  We realize that just having the same kind of contest each month may have been come a bit monotonous, so we are going to take a break from our usual contests for the summer.  Starting June 1st and running through August 31st we are going to have two different challenges going.  (There might be others.)

2021 SUMMER POETRY CHALLENGES

100 Poem Challenge – We will be challenging everyone to write 100 poems in three months.

Achievement Hunter Challenge – For this challenge we will be posting a list of "Achievement Challenges" and each challenge will be worth a certain number of points, depending on the difficulty of the challenge and you will be awarded points for completing the challenge.  The person(s) with the most points at the end of the summer will earn various achievement titles.  (More on this next week.)

Sample Achievements:

Write a poem. – 1 point
Write a poem without using the letter "e". – 7 points
Write a poem that can be read forward and backward. – 10 points
Write a poem using only 3 letter words. – 5 points
Write a haiku. – 2 points
(These are only samples and points are subject to change.)

For this week's featured poem, I would like to share a poem from Ruechari, our September 2018 Poet in Perpetuum.  This poem is from her Legacy Collection, and it is an uplifting reminder that we should always keep chasing our dreams.

A Writer's Words of Wisdom

I search for the words I wish to write.
They come to me without a fight
As if sitting idle in my mind
Until called upon which one to find.

My pen writes feverishly with a flourish
Characters I wish to grow and nourish
Stories and plot line with twists and turns
With happy endings and lessons learned.

A writer's life is the one for me
There is nothing in life I'd rather be.
Rejection will come without a doubt
Part of what writing is all about.

With each slip that comes in the mail
I know deep down I did not fail.
Failure can be a horrible thing
But not nearly as bad as not trying.

MAY 2021 – POETS PUB 6TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:

Our 6th Anniversary Challenge Collection is now open for submissions.  For the Poets Pub's 6th Anniversary Challenge, Bill has come up with a great idea!! So, along with the "Virtual Block Party", we are going to have a "Write and Vote" Challenge!!

Everyone will be allowed a total of six poems for the "Write and Vote".

You can send in your first poem on May 1st.

Next poem can be sent in the week of May 2-8

3rd poem week of May 9-15

4th poem May 16-22

5th poem May 23-29

6th poem May 30-31

Allow any style, any length, as long as they are original.

We will also have weekly challenges for you, to help us celebrate our 6th Anniversary!!

MAY 2021 6TH ANNIVERSARY BLOCK PARTY CHALLENGE:

Our third Block Party challenge is to ask another Pubber to write a collaborative poem with you.

POEM A WEEK CHALLENGE:

The purpose of this challenge is to simply encourage writing, taking the time, at least once a week, to get a poem from your brain on to paper.  If you would like to participate, the "how to" is below.

We now have our 2021 participant's sticker!! It is hosted on Imgur.  If you are a Poem-a-Week participant I can send you a DM with the link or if you would prefer to have it sent to you directly by email send me a DM and I will get it to you.

HERE IS HOW IT WILL WORK:

1. Anyone that would like to join in needs to use and existing book or create a new book on their profile to post their poems in.

2. Send us a PM with a link to the book you will be using and let us know that you have joined the challenge.

3. We will post the cover of your book in the Chatter as well as here to let others know that you are participating.

4. Send us copies of your poems at least once a month, to post here in this collection.

5. Check the Pub Chatter 7th Edition each week for prompts for the challenge.  The prompts given in the Chatter are only suggestions, you can always write any kind of poem that you like for this challenge.

April Challenge:

Our Winner for our April challenge is @lyttlejoe. I hope you'll all join me in congratulating him on his story, The Kill Shot. We are not doing a competition for May but may pick up the challenges again come the summer months.

Busted Gulch Vol. 15 Update:

Mayor Lorne Order found himself kidnapped.  It seems the kidnapper(s) has something to do with Solomon Ray and he threatened the lives of Myna and the babies if Lorne didn't help him take over the town.  Ruechari hired Bruce to find out more about Sallie.  He came up with his plan and put it into action, however Sallie had a plan of her own.
