WELCOME TO THE PUB-VERSE
Then Laugh
by Bertha Adams Backus
Build for yourself a strong box,
Fashion each part with care;
When it's strong as your hand can make it,
Put all your troubles there;
Hide there all thought of your failures,
And each bitter cup that you quaff;
Lock all your heartaches within it,
Then sit on the lid and laugh.
Tell no one else its contents,
Never its secrets share;
When you've dropped in your care and worry
Keep them forever there;
Hide them from sight so completely
That the world will never dream half;
Fasten the strong box securely-
Then sit on the lid and laugh.

September Contest 2021:
Our September contest has begun, and we invite all Pubbers to join in. This month we are going to be keeping it simple and fun. For our September contest you are going to be challenged to write silly, fun, nonsensical poems. The past year and a half has been so overwhelming for so many of us I think we need to send some cheer and joy out in this world. You can find out all about it in our contest book.
POEM A WEEK CHALLENGE:
The purpose of this challenge is to simply encourage writing, taking the time, at least once a week, to get a poem from your brain on to paper. If you would like to participate, the "how to" is below.

At the end of a family meeting, Petra gave Bart a bit of a lesson about trying to play "king of the mountain", reinforced by their father. It left Bart a bit battered and bruised but he got the message.

Eletelephony
by Laura Elizabeth Richards
Once there was an elephant,
Who tried to use the telephant—
No! No! I mean an elephone
Who tried to use the telephone—
(Dear me! I am not certain quite
That even now I've got it right.)
Howe'er it was, he got his trunk
Entangled in the telephunk;
The more he tried to get it free,
The louder buzzed the telephee—
(I fear I'd better drop the song
Of elephop and telephong!)

Fishmonger
by Marsden Hartley
I have taken scales from off
The cheeks of the moon.
I have made fins from bluejays' wings,
I have made eyes from damsons in the shadow.
I have taken flushes from the peachlips in the sun.
From all these I have made a fish of heaven for you,
Set it swimming on a young October sky.
I sit on the bank of the stream and watch
The grasses in amazement
As they turn to ashy gold.
Are the fishes from the rainbow
Still beautiful to you,
For whom they are made,
For whom I have set them,
Swimming?

maggie and milly and molly and may
by E. E. Cummings
10
maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)
and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles, and
milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;
and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and
may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.
For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea
I hope everyone has a super-duper fantastic week!! Remember that life is about choices, choose to make a difference in the lives of those around you. Choose kindness, choose empathy, choose understanding, choose patience, choose love.
Remember to... keep those pens and keyboards flying!!
Cheers from you Mystres of Chatter
