from the 1940's

Shoulders scrunched

knees a-knocking

on the screen

the monster stalking

She doesn't know

it's behind the door

slipped out of my seat

and on the floor

Peeking at the film

between the seat backs

eyes grow wide

as the monster hacks

Run, I scream

and duck my head

oh, too late

the heroine's dead

Where's the monster

the movie's ended

afraid to move

my breath suspended

A flashlight creeps along the row

it's not the usher that I know

a gnarled hand extends down low

and a voice says,

co-me with m-e, it's ti-m-e to g-o
