The Hippo (lyttlejoe)
Pub Chatter: UNBOUND - September 10, 2017 - Prompt #2 - Write a poem about a hippopotamus.
The Hippo
What a mighty creature the hippopotamus
From behind all you see is a bottom as
a perfectly defined gluteus maximus,
which could be considered quite humourous
But this mighty herbivore mammal
can weigh up to nearly four tons
so one should certainly consider being prudent
before making fun of their buns
They spend most of the day under water
but at dinner time they forage for grass
They can hold their breath up to five minutes
but when hungry they get off their . . . bottom
They'll wander easily up to six miles
and eat eighty pounds of grass on the way
but then it's time to sit down, under the water
relax, and call it a day
Little hippos can weigh one hundred pounds
but come along maybe every two years
and when they finally mature as adults
are recognized by those enormous rears
