Chapter 55

The next morning was their last exam, which was History of Magic. Diana was unable to study for it at all the previous night. The memories of the visions kept flashing before her eyes. Her headache still hadn't fully gone away.

On the day they were supposed to leave Hogwarts and go back home for the summer holidays, Diana and Layla stayed in their dorm to pack all their clothes and books. The other girls who shared their dorm had already gone down to breakfast. It was now just the two of them in the room.

Diana was seated on the floor right in front of her trunk. She was staring down at practically nowhere, sitting there motionlessly as though still in shock, her mind wandering far off..

"I know what you're thinking about," Layla said with a sigh as she waved her wand and her trunk closed on its own.

Diana didn't reply. She kept staring down fixedly and without blinking. She hadn't even heard Layla speak.

Layla went toward her and sat beside her on the floor. "Diana?"

Finally snapping out of her thoughts, Diana shook her head and turned to face her friend. "Yeah?"

"I know you're worried about the Black situation, but I'm sure you can think of something to do to fix it," said Layla sympathetic.

"What?" Diana frowned in confusion, her mind still not fully present. "What Black situation?"

Layla took aback. "You know... the arranged marriage with Sirius Black."

"Bloody hell! I wasn't even thinking about that!" Diana groaned as she dropped herself down on the floor, laying there on her back as she covered her face with her hands.

"Then what were you thinking about? You've been acting really weird lately. You disappeared completely after going to the Divination practical exam."

"Layla," Diana began breathlessly, sitting up again to face her, "I think I'm losing my mind."

Layla scoffed, looking her up and down. "You think?"

"This is serious!" Diana said in panic, her mouth going dry. "I — I saw something. During the Divination exam, I mean."

"Er... what?"

"A — a vision, I think — I can't be sure if it can even be called that. I saw dead people — a lot of them. The first few ones that I saw were more clear, as though they had already happened in the past. But — but the last vision I saw was kind of blurry. Foggy. I couldn't even see their faces properly. It was like — it felt like it hadn't happened yet."

Layla gaped at her, fearing for her friend's mental health. "So... you think it was a prediction?"

Diana sighed, looking away. "I'm not sure what it was. I can't make sense of it when I think of it now, but I know what I felt back then, and it definitely felt like it really was a prediction."

"Do you think that... that you're a Seer?" Layla spoke quietly, as though afraid that if she said it out loud, it would make it real.

"No," Diana whispered. "Maybe a month ago I thought I was a Seer. But now... now I'm sure that I am one."

During breakfast, Diana and Layla didn't speak at all because they were joined by Regulus as always, and they didn't want to talk about Diana's vision with him just yet.

After breakfast, all the students left the castle, getting into the horseless carriages that would carry them down to the Hogsmeade station, where the train awaited them. It was a beautiful sunny day, but Diana now had two things troubling her mind; first, the horrifying vision she'd had. And second, Sirius Black.

"I'm just glad our O.W.Ls are over. I don't think I could take another week of studying like that," said Layla, getting out of the carriage when it finally came to a stop in Hogsmeade.

"I have to go through the same thing in a few months," Regulus said bitterly, following after her. "The only subjects I don't really worry about are Potions and Astronomy. I have no hope for the rest."

"I did fine at Potions, I think. But Diana said she screwed up the practical exam," said Layla. "Right, Diana?"

"Yeah. Sure." Diana nodded, obviously distracted as they were walking down the lane and toward the train.

Layla grinned before moving closer to Regulus, whispering, "When she's distracted like this, she agrees to literally anything. It's like she can't even hear what you're saying."

"Anything, did you say?" Regulus smirked and Layla nodded.

With that, he turned to face Diana while they walked alongside each other, saying, "Hey, Diana, did you see Slughorn and McGonagall snogging this morning in the Great Hall? They look adorable together, don't they?"

"Yeah, exactly." Diana nodded, not even looking at their direction. Layla and Regulus sniggered.

"I hope she gets distracted more often," said Regulus with a grin, and Layla nodded along with amusement.

But they were caught off guard the next moment when Diana suddenly sped up and walked away from them when she spotted someone from afar.

"Where are you going!?" Layla called after her.

"Okay, see you later!" Diana shouted back as she kept on walking.

"The hell is she going?" Regulus frowned, stopping on the spot with Layla beside him, both of them watching Diana curiously.

"I never know with her." Layla sighed.

What had caught Diana's attention was the group of Gryffindor boys who were walking ahead of them in the distance. But this time, it wasn't Remus whom Diana was looking for. It was Sirius.

And so, when she left her friends' side, she quickened her pace to catch up with them right before they were about to board the train.

"Hey!" Diana called after them, catching their attention. The four of them stopped and turned around, taking aback to see her.

Remus stared at Diana with wide eyes, trying not to show his panic. When they had decided to start studying together, they made a pact to keep their friendship hidden from all of their friends. Layla and Regulus could be just as bad as the Marauders when it came to teasing Diana if they ever found out that she'd been hanging around with Lupin.

So, seeing Diana approaching them made Remus worry about what she was going to do. Although his face fell the next moment when she looked up at Sirius, saying, "I need to talk to you, Black."

The boys stared at her as though she were an alien or as if she were speaking another language.

"Now," Diana repeated herself firmly.

"Go ahead, then," said Sirius, trying to hide his surprise.

"In private," said Diana, looking around at the rest of the boys who were still watching her curiously. Although she tried to avoid catching Remus's eyes as much as possible.

"Why?" Sirius smirked, taking a step closer to her. "Have come to declare your undying love to me?"

Remus looked away as he stood behind them, suddenly tensing up. But the others were too busy looking at Diana to notice.

Diana glared up at Sirius. "Keep talking and I'll declare my love to you in the exact way I did it on our so-called date."

"What is she talking about?" James asked, frowning.

"Nothing!" Sirius said briskly before Diana could even open her mouth. "You three go find a compartment. I'll join you later."

He then grabbed a hold on Diana's wrist harshly, dragging her away.

"C'mon, let's go. He'll tell us what she wanted when he comes back," said James, boarding the train along with Peter.

Remus hesitated at first. Maybe it was because of the full moon which was close that his emotions were all over the place, but for a second he had this big desire to punch Sirius. But at last, he shook his head and followed James and Peter inside the train.

"What do you want, Greengrass?" Sirius snapped at her when they were far away from everybody else, where they couldn't be overheard.

"I need to talk to you. About something important," said Diana, though she couldn't resist the grin. "But before we get to that, I would like to know why you dragged me away from your friends right before I was about to speak about kicking you in the balls?"

"Shush!" Sirius snapped sharply, glancing around anxiously to make sure no one could hear them. "Don't ever speak of that."

"Ah, I see..." Diana nodded in understanding, smiling slyly. "Good to know you haven't told them about that little incident. It can be used as blackmail in the future."

"Just spit out what you wanted to say and get it all over with!"

"Okay, okay." Diana sighed, the playfulness vanishing from her tone. "Listen... I know your family is just like mine... Just a bunch of traditional Purebloods."

"I don't need you to remind me of what I have to deal with," he said sharply.

Diana ran a hand across her forehead, not sure about how she was supposed to put this. But she knew that he needed to hear it. She just had to say it quickly, just like ripping off a bandage.

So, taking in a deep breath, she finally bursted out, "Our families want us to get married."
