Chapter 79

No matter how many times Diana asked Remus about where they were going, every time he only smiled mysteriously, saying, "You'll see."

After a while, she noticed that they were headed down the marble staircase inside the entrance hall, toward a part of the castle she'd never been to before. He then turned left at the bottom of the staircase and Diana followed him through a large door. Behind the door, there was a flight of stone steps.

Diana was expecting the dingy staircase to lead them in a gloomy underground passage just like the dungeons, but she was surprised to find herself in a broad stone corridor, brightly lit with torches, and decorated with cheerful paintings that were mainly of food.

"Er... Lupin? Care to explain what's going on in your head right now?" Diana asked, looking all around her. They were both still soaking wet from head to toe, the cold weather making it harder for them to get dry.

"What's going on in my head right now is that why you're still calling me by my last name," said Remus, a gentle smile on his lips.

Diana made a face at him. "You do realize that kidnapping is illegal, right?"

"You do realize that you can trust me, right?"

"Stop turning my questions into your own questions!"

"Then stop asking questions!"

"You did it again!"

"Technically, that one wasn't a question," Remus said wittily.

Diana gave him a deadly look as they were walking down the long corridor. "You're lucky that you're pretty."

He smiled cheekily, looking at her sideways. "So you think I'm pretty?"

"The point of that sentence was that if someone else kept arguing with me like that, I would've punched them twice by now. And only one time in the face."

Remus chuckled. "I don't know... I really enjoy arguing with you. It's fun. Besides, you look cute when you're angry."

Trying to hide the blush that ran across her cheeks and out of things to say, Diana stuck her tongue at him.

"Wow. That's very mature," Remus said sarcastically, grinning.

"Oh, shut up," Diana mumbled, though she couldn't help but to smile, no matter how much she tried to suppress it.

"Okay, we're here," said Remus, finally stopping with anticipation all over his face.

Diana became even more confused when she turned and saw that he was looking up at a large picture of a giant fruit bowl.

"Good to know you've finally lost your mind," she said jokingly, crossing her arms.

"You sure about that?" Remus lifted one eyebrow at her in a playful manner.

"Oh yes, I'm pretty sure."

"Well, in that case..." Remus then stretched out his forefinger, and tickled the huge green pear.

Diana opened her mouth to mock him again, but to her surprise, the pear began to squirm and giggle, and suddenly a large green door handle appeared upon it. With a little smile, Remus seized the handle and pulled the door open, standing aside for Diana to walk forward and take a better look inside.

She took her first glimpse at the sight before her and her mouth fell open in awe. The place was an enormous, high-ceilinged room, large as the Great Hall above it, with mounds of glittering brass pots and pans heaped around the stone walls, and a great brick fireplace at the other end, with hundreds of house elves running around and working.

Satisfied to see the astonished look on Diana's face, Remus placed a hand behind her and gently pushed her forward and further into the kitchen.

"How — how long have you known about this place —"

"Oh, we found this place in our first year. We come here all the time." Remus shook a hand, as if to say it was no big deal.

"First year?" Diana repeated, marveling at the thought, her eyes still wide as she looked all around her.

Right at that moment, as soon as the house elves had sighted their new visitors, a few of them ran forward and bowed down their heads.

"Master Lupin! How good to see you here again, sir!" one of them squeaked excitedly. "What can we get you?"

"The usual snacks will do, thanks. But this time only for two, please." Remus gave them an appreciating smile, and so, the house elves bowed one more time before rushing off to get the order ready.

"Didn't know you were a celebrity here," Diana whispered to him with a teasing grin, making him laugh.

After the house elves returned, they handed them many tiny boxes of chocolate fudge, cauldron cake, popcorn, toasted grilled cheese, little sliders, Fizzing Whizzbees, and even Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.

With their arms filled with snack boxes so that they could barely see where they were walking, Diana and Remus bade the house elves goodbye and carefully walked out of the kitchen, their hair and clothes still wet.

The rain was still pouring against the corridor windows by the time they reached their secret spot where they used to meet up to study last year.

They took their seats on the large windowsill in the secret corridor, placing the snacks in the space between them before taking their books out of their bags to get started on studying.

The first thing Remus reached out for was the cauldron cake, while Diana took a fistful of popcorn and ate them all at once. With a quill in hand, she leaned against the pillar behind her, her knees almost hugged to her chest as she rested her book against her thighs.

"Did you understand anything Professor McGonagall said during the last lesson?" Diana asked as she stared down at her book, scratching her chin thoughtfully with the back of her quill.

"You mean the hair transformation spell?" Remus asked, looking up from his book which was placed in front of him down on the windowsill, as he was sitting cross-legged.

"Yeah." Diana nodded. "It all sounded very complicated."

"Yeah, the magical theories are harder this year, but the spell itself isn't too difficult."

"Well, then can I try it on you for second? I'll just turn your hair a bit darker."

"Yeah, sure." Remus shrugged, putting down his quill.

Diana took out her wand from her pocket, getting off the windowsill and walking toward where he was, sitting right beside him.

She then cleared her throat, raised her wand up and pointed it at his hair, saying carefully, "Crinus Muto!"

As she had expected, Remus's hair started changing color. Her smile grew as she watched him.

"Did it work?" Remus questioned after a few seconds.

"Oh, yes. It worked even better than I'd hoped." Diana pursed her lips together as she nodded, trying her best not to laugh.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Remus asked with great concern, but Diana only bursted out in laughter.

Panic rising from within him, Remus turned his head to look at his reflection in the window beside him, but he let out a shriek and his eyes widened at the sight before him.

"WHAT DID YOU DO!?" Remus cried out, but Diana only laughed harder. His hair was now a neon green color, almost shining. "I look like an ogre!"

"Oh, don't be so mean, Remus. Ogres are beautiful creatures," Diana retorted sarcastically, still sniggering.

"Yes, yes, very funny." Remus smiled bitterly, taking out his wand. "Let's see if you'll still laugh if you looked like a unicorn threw up on you."

"Wha — NO, REMUS, DON'T —!"

"Crinus Muto!" Remus exclaimed with his wand pointed at her.

Diana jumped to her feet, staring at the reflection of her hair in the window in horror as it began to turn pink. "NO! YOU IDIOT!"

Remus laughed. But he fell silent the next moment when he caught her glaring daggers at him.

"You better run for your life, Lupin," Diana snarled dangerously.

But Remus didn't get up from the windowsill and instead, he suddenly reached out and grabbed her waist, pulling her toward him in a quick motion so that Diana couldn't resist, a gasp escaping her throat at the sudden movement.

Diana felt her face heat up as she found herself pressed against his chest in his arms, now seated on his lap. With a little smile, Remus placed a hand on her rosy cheek and brought her down into a kiss.

She felt a shiver running down her spine, her heart lurching at the feeling of his arms around her and his lips moving against hers in sync.

The next moment, Diana pulled away, narrowing her eyes down at him playfully. "You can't just kiss me whenever I'm mad and think that it will just go away."

He smiled cheekily. "But it worked though, didn't it?"

Diana shrugged with a little grin, her cheeks still pink from the kiss. "Maybe just a little."

"That's what I thought," Remus said with a chuckle, connecting their lips together again as he held her closer in his arms.
