| Chapter 5: the vines |
I'm not mad, this is. - my quote
The sky was in the ground, that's the first thing I noticed when I woke up to the rustling of leaves.
In truth, everything was backward or upside down. Or a combination of either.
I blinked repeatedly trying to discern if my eyes were deceiving me. It wasn't until I tried stretching that I realized I couldn't.
Vines were attached to me, slithering all the way on the grass...trapping me securely in place.
That's when I realized I was upside down...hanging beside a tree. More like the tree was securing me in place with the vines and bark wood.
"Finally you're awake," Ayleen announced irritated, "I've been trying to free us and these dense vines won't break loose!" she uttered exasperated.
"What?"
I could feel my blood rising to my brain making me all dizzy.
How?" I questioned.
"I don't know, I woke up and tried waking you up for what seems like hours and I thought you were turning into sleeping beauty." She sniffed turning away, "I was getting worried."
"Sorry," was all I could utter.
I tried moving my hands to rip these vines off, but hundreds of vines were securing us in place and it sort of felt as if they were fingers...confining us...wrapping around us...not letting us leave.
Vines with love-in-a-mist intertwined together. So perfectly and light.
Flowers that were never there before.
Just when we were about to give up, we heard a faint melody in the air...it sounded like the one that got us into this mess, to begin with.
"Help! helppppp! Someone! Pleaseeeee!" We both screamed in unison at the top of our lungs.
Our screams echoed about making it louder than it sounded.
We continued screaming not caring about the dryness in our throats nor the aching that started to rise.
Someone was bound to hear and help would be in the way. Right?
The melody had long been gone as I turned to glance at the rustling near the bushes of lush raspberries. I could distinctly hear soft whispers so faint I couldn't make out a thing.
I closed my eyes for a moment trying to concentrate and think of a way out. How to cut these vines without a pocket knife... hmmm... With our teeth? No, will end up bleeding and who knows what the vines are made up inside. Position? No, no. I'm overthinking. They're just veins. Regular old vines that somehow managed to wrap themselves around us.
"What's with all that screaming? Are you mad?" A small baby-ish voice asked.
"They have to be, look at how oddly they seem. Even my ears hurt, if they keep it up they will bleed." Another voice joined in.
My eyes shot open and I instantly panicked. A tiger and a panther. Both cubs and they were...speaking?
SPEAKING!?
"How are you talking? Wait, don't answer that!" I shouted.
"Talking Cubs!" squealed Ayleen.
"Of course, you silly. We can speak. You are talking too and should you not?" The baby tiger with piercing sky blue eyes replied stepping closer. Confusing us even more with such knowledge and understanding.
"I am losing my mind," I muttered under my breath.
You're not.
"I am," I replied back.
Wait, did I just hear that? Did someone just respond back? No. Impossible. The blood rushing to my brain must be the explanation for all of this. It has to be!
I eyed the vines as if they were parasites trying to find a way inside me to make me become the host.
"AWWWW BABIES!!!"
I think I'm going deaf...if us screaming didn't do the job then her squealing with excitement will.
If these cubs are here that can only mean one thing: their mom has to be nearby. Unless their orphans. That's too sad, I hope they're not. What if they're not? What if their old and are disguised as cubs? Ahhhhh! I must get out of these vines!
I tried everything even bitting the vines, but that only caused bleeding inside my gums. As I expected. Frustrated, I swung myself and ended up bumping my head on the tree behind me repeatedly.
"You're bleeding. It hurts, doesn't it?" The cub stated rather than questioned while cautiously making its way towards me.
Its eyes were a vibrant blue, I couldn't help but be drawn by its intensity and color. Something unexplainable was making me want to be near it. Like a bond. An invisible tugging, pulling me near it. But I was stuck in place unable to move.
Those piercing sky eyes inching closer and closer to me...
"Can you get us some help? Please, please adorable babies," Ayleen begged profoundly.
I could tell she wanted to squeeze them to death with all that cuteness they carried about. It'll be better for them to just leave her there unless they want to get chased after and hugged. When I mean hugged, I mean the type where you squeeze something to their demise.
"We'll be back" the panther cub declared. Its green eyes were so bright in contrast to its dark fur. It was starting to freak me out that it broke whatever trance I had with the other cub.
And even worse, the cub with blue irises wouldn't stop staring at me. Look, I know the cubs are both beautiful and cute and just so darn adorable, but like I'm going into panic mode, and let me tell you it's not looking pretty.
My heart was beating so loud I swear the entire forest must have heard by now.
The cub just continued staring at me and sniffing me. Then the cub broke the stare and rubbed its body on my chest. And just like that, it ran off with its other cub sibling. Or friend?
Maybe it was itchy? Or maybe it liked me? Or maybe it was silently sniffing me out to find me only to murder me later...
Ohhhhh nooooooo! This is bad. I'm going crazy. Listen, they're just two small adorable cubs. There is no danger in that. Absolutely no danger, their mom is probably friendly. Yeah. And we may be invited into their small humble home. Everything will be fine. I kept reassuring myself
Why the hell am I thinking excessively? This is definitely a dream and I'm probably—no—most likely in. Yeah, that's the word I'm looking for. I'm most likely ruining this beautiful dream. I should have eaten those sweets. It could have relaxed me like a drug.
Wait, was it a drug? Ahh...um...no? Maybe? I should have let us eat.
I can control this dream! Ah, yes. I know I'm dreaming so controlling this dream must be easy. So very easy.
That reassurance caused a smile to my lips before sleepiness took a hold of me once again.
This was just a dream, I'm sure of it. I will wake. I have to.
