Chapter 5 // Death
Tears gushed from Rainkits eyes as she ran to her father's limp body.
"Dad!" She wailed. Foxfang's lifeless body smelt of death and blood. She could see the rip in his neck.
Lucidhope was curled around him. "Why? Who would do such a thing?..." She whimpered.
The clan started to gather around Foxfang's body and Rainkit's little body shook violently.
Out of the corner of her eye Rainkit saw Harley and Kassidy. She bared her teeth. She knew good and well that they had murdered him.
Before Rainkit could process everything, a powerful force hit her.
Lucidhope hovered over her. "Foxheart! You killed him. Didn't you!?" She hissed.
Falconwing shoved Lucidhope aside. "Don't you dare blame her!" He snarled. "I'm tired of you accusing her every time you get the chance! What do you have against her, Lucidhope?!" He hissed.
Rainkit stood next to her friend, growling at her mother. "He's right! I never get to tell my side of the story!"
Lucidhope murmered something under her breath and stormed away.
"What in StarClan happened?!" Waspkit gasped. He rushed over, jaws open wide.
"Dad?!" He wailed. Tears ran down his muzzle. "Dad!"
Rainkit glanced at Falconwing before sitting next to her littermate.
Waspkit glared at her and scooted away.
Hurt, Rainkit stared at her paws. "Fine.Im just trying to be a good sister...." She muttered and layed her head on Foxfangs shoulder.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own fresh kill gather beneath the tall root for a clan meeting!"
Rainkit didn't move from her fathers side.
Once the clan was gathered, Gracestar continued. "It seems someone has killed our dear deputy, Foxfang. He was found dead in the clearing this morning. Does anyone have any idea what happened?"
The crowd murmered disturbed meows.
Rainkit's fur bristled. This is my chance! She thought.
Just as she opened her mouth to speak, She caught a glare from Harley, causing her to snap her mouth shut.
Forgive me, Father.....
The next morning, Rainkit was woken by a shuffling sound coming from the nest next to her.
She lifted her head and opened her drowsy eyes, straining to see in the darkness.
Easily, she saw a small figure picking its way through the nursery to the entrance.
"Wolfkit?" She whispered.
The figure paused. "Don't worry Rainkit. I'm just going to sit in the clearing." Wolfkit whispered in response.
Rainkit stood up and followed. "I'll come as well."
Wolfkit nodded and crept to the clearing. She sat down and stared at the sky.
"I'm sorry about your dad, Rainkit." She mewed, gazing at the stars.
Rainkits ears flattened. "Its ok, Wolfkit." She murmered.
"Do you ever wonder how many cats are in Starclan?" Wolfkit breathed.
Rainkit shrugged. "Dad always said that when ever a cat has been in Starclan so long that they are forgotten, they come back as a kit." She mewed.
"Really?" Wolfkit gasped. "That's amazing."
Rainkit purred. "Yeah. It is...." She mewed, smiling.
Wolfkit smiled. "I'm glad your my friend. I don't think I'd be able to make friends with anyone else..." She muttered.
Rainkit put her tail on Wolfkits shoulders. "That's not true. Your awesome."
"Thanks...."
Rainkit woke with Wolfkit curled up next to her. She smiled and decided to leave her be. She padded to the Fresh kill pile and grabbed a scrawny sparrow, not her favorite, but she wanted to give the plump vole to Falconwing.
Once she had her fill, Rainkit grabbed the vole and padded to the elders, dropping the prey at Falconwings paws.
"Here ya go!" She chirped.
Falconwing looked at the vole and licked his jaws. "Mmm! That looks delicious! How'd you know that was my favorite?"
Rainkit puffed her chest. "I listen to your stories, Falconwing." She purred.
Falconwing chuckled and nudged her with his muzzle. "Thanks youngin'." He rasped.
Rainkit dipped her head and padded out of the den, colliding with Wolfkit on the way.
"Oof!" They said in unison.
"Sorry!" Wolfkit laughs. "I was looking for you!" She purred.
"Oh." Rainkit mewed, "Ok. I was talking to Falconwing."
Wolfkit nodded and waved her tail, "Wanna race to the nursery and back?" She asked.
"Sure!" Rainkit nodded. "On your mark....get set..."
Wolfkit wiggled her rump in the air and readied herself.
"Go!" Rainkit mewed and bolted to the nursery.
As she ran her mind flooded with questions. Maybe Wolfkit can help me get revenge. She thought grimly. I hope so...
