Chapter 6 // Rouge?
"Rainpaw! Wasppaw!"
Rainpaw raised her head proudly beside her new mentor, Mossyoak.
Wasppaw had gotten Solarclaw. Suddenly pain and sadness gripped her heart like icy claws. She just remembered that her father wasn't here to cheer for her, and he wouldn't be their to cheer for her when she got her warrior name either.
Wolfkit bounded happily to her side after the ceremony. "Congratulations!" She mewed.
Forcing a smile, Rainpaw managed to speak normally. "Thanks Wolfkit! Just think, in a couple moons we'll both be apprentices!" She mewed.
Wolfkit hopped up and down happily. "I know! I can't wait!"
A purr rose in Rainpaw's throat.
Mossyoak prodded her in the side. "Sorry to interrupt, Rainpaw, but I was thinking we'd go on a tour of the territory before moon-high." She mewed, amusement rang in her voice.
Rainpaw nodded. "Bye!" She nudged Wolfkit gently before trotting after Mossyoak, pushing any sad thoughts away.
"Now," Mossyoak started. "This is the Sun tree." She motioned her tail towards a large leafless tree.
"I know what your thinking, 'why is it called Sun tree?'" Mossyoak mewed. "Well the sun rises over there," She pointed behind the tree. "And since this tree is dead and leaves don't grow on it, the sunlight shines threw it and the branches block some of it so it makes the light dance beautifully on the ground." Mossyoak purred."Maybe I could show you tomorrow!"
Rainpaw nodded. "That would be awesome!"
"Great!" Mossyoak padded forward. "Here is the river. It's our main source of water and without it the stream in camp wouldn't be there."
Rainpaw nodded. "Okay." She mewed.
After Mossyoak had finished the tour, she led Rainpaw back to camp.
"Okay. I'll take you on dawn patrol tomorrow. So get some rest."
Rainpaw nodded. "Kay."
"Rainpaw your back!" Wolfkit rammed into Rainpaw.
"Oof!" Rainpaw flew backwards and Wolfkit leaped on top of her.
"Hi buddy!!" She cheered. "How was your first day of training?"
Rainpaw shoved Wolfkit off and shook her pelt. "It was pretty cool. I got to see the territory. Mossyoak is taking me on Dawn patrol tomorrow, so I'll see the borders and stuff then." She explained.
Wolfkit leaped up and down. "That's so cool!" She squealed. "Just two more moons and I'll be an apprentice too!"
Rainpaw chuckled. "I can't wait."
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own fresh kill gather beneath the tall root for a clan meeting!" Gracestars voice echoed throughout the camp.
Rainpaw and Wolfkit bounded to the clearing.
Eclipsepaw, Pinepaw, and Adderpaw Sat behind then, snickering uncontrollably.
Rainpaw rolled her eyes and looked at Solarclaw, who had been chosen as the next deputy, as he trotted to his spot under the root.
"Ravenpaw. Dawnpaw. Come forward." Gracestar commanded.
With excited faces, Ravenpaw and Dawnpaw walked forward.
Rainpaw smiled, happy that her kithood crush was finally becoming a warrior.
"Cloudmaple, has Dawnpaw learned the ways of the warrior code? And has she completed her assessment?"
Cloudmaple nodded. "She has."
"So has Ravenpaw." Eaglecry mewed.
"Then StarClan look down on these two apprentices. They have worked hard to learn your noble code, and I commend them as warriors in there turn. Ravenpaw, from this day forward, you'll be known as Ravenwing. Dawnpaw, your warrior name is Dawnlight."
Gracestar announced.
"Dawnlight! Ravenwing!" The clan cheered.
Gracestar smiled and leaped off the high root.
Rainpaw padded up to Ravenwing. "Congratulations!" She purred.
Ravenwing smiled a little and then turned to his sister.
"Hey, Rainpaw."
Rainpaw spun around, facing Waspaw.
"How does it feel to be the apprentice of a stupid warrior while I'm the apprentice of a deputy?" He mewed smugly.
"It feels just fine." She hissed. "I happen to like Mossyoak."
Wasppaw rolled his eyes. "Whatever twerp. Just know, I'm on the top." He spat and walked away.
"He's a sucks a pond full of slug slime." Wolfkit scoffed behind Rainpaw.
Rainpaw laughed and turned around. "Sure does." She smiled.
That morning, Rainpaw was awoken by Mossyoak prodding her in her side with a sharp claw.
"Rise in shine sleepyhead!Dawn patrol!" Mossyoak mewed.
Rainpaw groaned and stretched, stepping out of the den. "Okay...."
Solarclaw, Wasppaw, and Wolfspirit were gathered at the entrance.
Rainbow joined quickly, her pelt burning.
"Took ya long enough..." Wolfspirit muttered.
Mossyoak nudged her forward. "C'mon. We don't wanna miss the sun tree."
Wasppaw rolled he's eyes and Solarclaw chuckled. "You never miss that tree, do you, Mossyoak?"
"Nope." She giggled. "Oh! Here we are!" Mossyoak rushed past the group to the tree.
Rainpaw's mouth gaped at the dancing sunlight on the ground. "Whoa...." She murmered.
Mossyoak watched the light with joy. "Beautiful isn't it?"
Solarclaw flicked his tail. "Come on. We're still on dawn patrol."
Mossyoak stared another moment and trotted back to her clan mates. "Let's go."
Rainpaw stayed behind the crowd on the way to the borders. She eyed her brother.
Wolfspirit stopped and sniffed the air. "I smell Whisperclan..." She growled.
Solarclaw sniffed. "Me too."
Rainpaw flattened her ears as something moved behind her.
Mossyoak growled. "Who's the-MRROWWWWW!!!!"
