Chapter Twelve

Miss Caroline shook her head Plan C was the least favored for her in the event of threats and stalking. She had bothered coming along on a cases ago and then she did not need to worry about all sorts of things. She had done well sitting at her desk at the Watts Police Department. She was the best data clerk they had until they decided they needed more bots and less humans for such basic works. She would have stood on for maintenance and repairs. Miss Caroline knew a few things about bots since her folks had ran a shop. But she couldn't bring herself to the whole limited persona of the bots. Two years with a bot as your friend or co-worker did things to you. Once second the bot is around, the next they are collected and their minds eased.

Miss Caroline briskly walked back into the Hall of Records and trembled in the lobby. She rolled her shoulders to relax. Her scanned the area was to ensure it was clear of threats. Her eyes wondered back to the officer workers behind the glass as they sat at their chairs and typed away. She was not so worried about her safety as she was of Yankee and Edwin. Miss Caroline held tight onto her silver bag. She silently accessed her Palm Planner and typed a message over to Walus. He would be out of town for a while, but he needed to know what was going on. Soon a message was returned to Miss Caroline. It was a normal away from desk message from Walus. Miss Caroline closed her eyes. Yankee was in trouble and they had hacked her line.

True Edwin was most likely tracing the source and researching every in and out as she followed the simple plan. She was to remain alert and observe her space. If the place looked safe enough she was to make her way to the meet up point as soon as possible. If way was unsafe, she was to be ready for anything and to her best to defend herself. Not exactly the world's most complex plan, but he gave her something to work with. Miss Caroline checked her hairpin and keep it at the ready. Her own stun gun was put away in her bag. She just had to figure out what to do.

Her phone had been hacked without her being aware. It meant that Edwin's firewalls failed on her phone. Miss Caroline checked her Palm Planner again to see the time. She had managed to collect the data about Kid Marshal. But the news reports and online sources were all off. Besides the dorms, any friends, and Olivia's boyfriend, the next group of people to contact were her family should it come to it. Miss Caroline guessed it was going to be Olivia's boyfriend as the main idea of their research. For the time being however, there were bigger problems.

Miss Caroline saw the room was prefect safe to continue to the meeting point. But as she looked out at the crowd of students and their umbrellas, she would be in a crowd. It would not be the best place to head. But there would be more citizens to help her in a time of need. Of course, it was just a plan that she worked out with Edwin. It was not really a standard thing to follow with everything else happening in the world. Miss Caroline just thought after so many different events to criminals and more it would be nice to have an idea of what to do.

She sighed and looked around. She would have to continue on and make it to the meet up point with all of the students rushing about. Her notes she would have to save somewhere safe. But with her phone hacked and her Palm Planner most likely as well. Of which, she felt fainted at the realization as she sent Walus a message. Miss Caroline closed her eyes and took a deep breath. A Palm Planner was a very personal part of a person's self. It was nearly as important as their brain or heart. A Palm Planner kept all your personal identification and access on it. Many people got Palm Planners as soon as they turned thirteen. It was necessary for everything. To hack a Palm Planner was a real challenge. It was unheard of any cases of people breaking passed the firewall on one.

Miss Caroline could be beside herself with such a rookie mistake. She had helped with some cases before. Maybe Walus was right about her not being suited for anything but answering phones and writing emails. Miss Caroline took out her notepad. She would have to take care with her paper notes and keep them safe for the time being. Miss Caroline wrote them now quickly in her notepad and tacked it away. There would be no reason not to take care. She watched the parade of umbrellas and raincoats. The crowds of people were going on and on. Miss Caroline knew she couldn't be a sitting duck. But to go out with such risk was staying and going.

Miss Caroline watched the digital clock go around as she kept her notes against her chest. It was then there was a ding from her phone. Edwin's icon popped up on the screen. It was a tiny sheep jumping over a fence. It was working through the data on her phone to process the possible viruses on it. The little sheep kept hopping across the fence as the scanning bar kept going up. Miss Caroline exhaled as she thought over the repercussions. It was then that she spotted the public phones waiting down the hall and the group of two men in dark colored rain coats coming down the hallway. She sucked closer to the wall as she watched the two of them walking along.

They were dressed sharply. But they did not look like just anyone. No one wore such dark colors from Watts City. It not considered more then a fashion don't. Black was normally frowned upon from the stand point as it was considered to bring death and bad luck. Miss Caroline watched as other students and staff members backed away from the strangers.

Miss Caroline's heartbeat increased as the two of them paused. Both of them were counting the amount of people were about. One of them held a small device in his palm as he nodded to his partner. Miss Caroline could not make it out as much as she wanted to. She slide causally along the wall as the office bots watched her. Miss Caroline could cruse the A.I. for watching her behavior.

The moment passed as her phone flicked and the sheep stopped jumping. Miss Caroline peered down and saw the icon reveal the virus removed from her phone. Miss Caroline lifted it up check the notes quickly. It was true it was free of any outside influence. Miss Caroline focused on the two men who the whole building were clearing out. She quickly went beside a wall and placed a small pebble in her shoe. Miss Caroline reached into her bag and tied a brown bandana around her hair. With swift fingers she took her rain jacket off and leaned on her umbrella. She would just have to take it out to a bathroom and then to the meeting point.

The two of them were drawing closer as she hurried out the room and kept her speed nice and steady. Please don't go looking for slow walkers. They search for runners. Miss Caroline kept her mind clear as she slipped out of the lobby again and made her way out to toward the bathroom. She would be able to reprogram her coat to a different color. Grimly Miss Caroline knew she might have to dig out her Palm Planner with a knife. But it would not be the first time she had to do it to help out Edwin.

Their footstep right behind her, Miss Caroline step over to the public bathroom with care as she kept her eyes ahead and hummed softly to herself. She appeared to be a disabled student with a limp. It was not her best work, but it would have to do for the time. Miss Caroline held her breath as the two men hover just right behind her as she dashed into the restroom and shut the door. Her fingers were resting upon her stun gun as she need to sprint away from the area. The footsteps walked away from the door outside. Miss Caroline exhaled and saw some messages flicker on her screen from Edwin.

The number sprung up as Miss Caroline rejected the call and sent it to voicemail. She would need to figure out the man had left from outside. She pressed her ear against the door and near the normal sounds of the students and the bot workers. Miss Caroline rested her head against the door. But she knew even with the vicus scan being completed she could be traced. She left her phone in one of the stalls. Miss Caroline then whipped out a small pocket knife and held out her wrist. Yes, it was a tad bit much to puck out the small nanotech from her warm. But again, she had gone it before when she had to be under cover for the force.

She held the pocket knife and bite down to remove it. So. . . She would lose half her life and her unlock to her apartment and her access to her credits. She would still be able to use her fingerprints to get things done. Miss Caroline got it free from her arm and flicked the lade away. She threw it in the trash as she damaged her phone with the water from the sink. Miss Caroline stared down at the phone and continued to listen at the door. She thought to herself, Following all the way through with Plan C has always been a pain. I will have to worry about a new phone later. I need to get to the meet up spot over at the cafeteria.

. . .

Edwin finished his counter-hack on Miss Caroline's phone. Or at least he attempted to he had gone through, but the thing was still buggy. He would have no choice and let the phone die out. It was after all part of Plan C. Get ride of all traces and make it to the meet up place. The meetup place being changed to a back-up location. In this case it would be over at the University's cafeteria. Edwin sighed as he stood in the bushes and waited for the sounds of the other people to fade away. He would have to manage break his phone and pull out the nanotech from his arm. The spares were sitting safe back at the office and their safehouse. Plus, there was the back-up in the heel of his shoe and connected to Miss Caroline's necklace.

The Knight Brothers had faced many foes that tried to stop their investigation dead in its tracks. Edwin could recall the one time where a killer C.E.O Jefferson Crane wanted to his wife to never leave him so that he may keep the thousands from their business. Mister Crane had found Edwin and Walus with the good Mrs. Crane in an opera box as they were putting together the clues. Walus had been traced by a cufflink that Mr. Crane had leant to him. He was planning to slip in and murder them by knife. Mr. Crane had lost any clear sign of sanity. He even accused Walus of cheating with his wife. Edwin blocked the stabbing toward his brother and Mrs. Crane but received several wounds to the face. It never did heal properly. Edwin had nearly wound his life to those wounds. Luckily, he lived through it. The Knight Brothers decided to develop safety places to check for traces. But Edwin could not reflect on the case that almost cost him his life. He was busy getting his secondary device out from his shoe.

Edwin picked it up but knew he would not be able to activate it until he was further away from the current location. He got out of the bushes and begun walking out toward the secondary meeting spot. He scanned about to ensure he was not followed and headed back to the main walkway. He would have to find his way back to the cafeteria the old fashion way. He worked back into his memory of the map and worked out it was toward the front of the school near the Hall of Records. Edwin walked carefully around the other students with their umbrellas and their packs. He pulled his hat down toward his face as he faced the wind.

He would have to search for his leads in a bit. First they needed to try and find out who and where Yankee had been taken to. Yankee was going to forward the report about Olivia's body in the evening. Edwin walked his surroundings with eyes over the rainbow colors of the students. Each umbrella of brilliant shades and the tiny unicorn on it. His had was dripping with water as he continued down the wet sidewalk. It was then as the wind started to die down that the rain started to let up. It came down to a fine mist.

Edwin did not have time to stare like the others in the crowd as the misty rain slowly came to a stop. For a record in Watts City the rarity of rain stopping and the sun peaking through its clouds was a sight to behold. Many times, people were freeze in their tracks just to hope that when the rain stopped that the sun would dare to peak through the clouds. All of the umbrellas around Edwin started to snap shut as he reached the Humanities Department. It was out of the side of his sight spotted a few peopled dressed in black. A wave of students was parting to make room for the bad luck bring people. The wormed about with their eyes torn between the hopes of the sun and the ill omen of three men.

Edwin took the distraction of his advantage and hustled on his way back to the main area. It was around then he heard an unfamiliar voice shouted his name, "Edwin! Edwin Knight!"

Edwin kept his speed steady and wanted until he saw a side way around the campus roads. He dashed off as the group of men in black carried out down the sidewalk in the main group of students. Edwin walked along as he soon found himself in a large park area. The peaks of the Hall of Records were in sight. Edwin followed along the pathway. Many of the plants here were lush and filled with rich greens. Edwin found mud all over his boots. If he dared an indoor pathway soon he would leave a trail. He would have to deal with that later.

His spare phone started to ring. Edwin flipped it open, "Password?"

"Spud," Miss Caroline answered.

Edwin finally walked on with the realization that the rain had stopped. He blinked as he stared up at the parting clouds and the patches of blue skies coming on through. He was almost speechless as he shook his head and focused. He said, "You are near the place?"

"Confirmed. Your e.t.a?"

"I will be there shortly. I had a tail. I shook it off for now. It was a group in black."

"Ah. . . I will be waiting. Hurry. I think we might being getting in over our heels, even before we start. Poor Yankee. . ."

"We will find him. Hold tight."

"Copy."

Edwin hung up his phone as he begun typing a hurried message to Walus. It was nothing long or lengthy. But he made it to the point. He wrote one single word to his brother, Titanic. Quickly in the cover of the foliage he popped his hat inside out and took out a pack. He changed into a lively green coat and changed his favorite hat over to a violet one. He pulled out an umbrella of the unicorn with its rainbow cloth on it. Then Edwin speedily went on his way and took off his hat of its extra water. He would have to not get lost in thought should the sun decide to appear. He found his way through the winding park pathways as he got back on the main road.

Edwin got his way over to the cafeteria without much more ado. There he spotted Miss Caroline as they had agreed to much earlier posing as a student at the lunch tables. Her expression was cool as she drank a water. She waved to Edwin as he joined her in a rush. He grinned, "Ah, there you are! I do believe are time here is done for now."

"Yes, come on back to my place. I have been thinking of you for so long," Miss Caroline giggled.

"You are being very forward, Miss."

"I will be even more forward. I can say that our time will be hot and dangerous."

"I would like to add, we might want to get a move on then!"

Edwin took her arm as she picked up her water and moved along side him. Edwin and Miss Caroline made it outside as spots of sunlight came through the clouds. Part of the unicorn sidewalk art faded from view as the sunlight touched it. Many students were standing around and watching the rays of light come and through. Edwin and Miss Caroline slowly waved through the people until they reached the edge of the campus and called for a hover cab. Miss Caroline reached into her bracelet and pulled out some currency. She eyed Edwin as they made their way from the campus.

He laughed, "So tell me about your place?"

"You know it is quiet lovely. I think it is best that I have plenty of plants and water them every so often. But I hate for anyone else to watch over my plants. They tend to get overwatered no matter who I have water them. Do you know anyone who is good with plants?"

". . . Umm. . . I think I know a good person. They are a server at a coffee house. If you would like I can introduce you to them very soon," Edwin watched as the city zoomed by. They were several blocks from their office. But it would have to wait. First was the meet up at Yankee's last clue. Edwin watched as they headed over to the East Side of Watts City. The hover cab landed on the street near the coffee shop. Miss Caroline slipped in her cash to the slot of the car.

Soon they were on their way back to the office. As they stood outside by the doorman bot, Edwin held out his hand to it. It was dressed in a sunshine yellow suite. It seemed to be observing the brief moment of sunshine above their heads. Its eyes light up with green lights as it turned its head back to the detective and the sectary. Its rust resistance paint of silver glimmered in the light as it stepped forward. The doorman bot paused and scanned over Edwin. It said to him, "You have no chip."

"No, Ogo, we don't there was a problem," Edwin sighed.

"You will need me to conduct a fingerprint scan, then?" Ogo blinked at them.

"Yes, Ogo, you can assume it is Edwin and I," Miss Caroline sighed.

"Your facial features are slightly different. But your voices sound right. . . Still it is odd when a person comes around without their chip in place. It is like a person's whole life," Ogo stood in front of the door.

"Ogo just do the testing. We need to get inside and quickly rather then later," Edwin checked around for the men in black.

Ogo peered at their hands and searched for their fingerprints, "I can confirm your data as Edwin Knight and Caroline of the Knight Detective Agency. You may enter. But I must remind you that all citizens over the age of 13 must be chipped. It is important that you seek new chips within the next three hours to avoid being escorted by the police to a Chip Replacement Center."

"Yes, Ogo, you told us last time this happened," Miss Caroline hurried along inside the building.

"Good day, Caroline and Edwin," Ogo returned to its view of the street.

"I think the bot personality patch you made up would do him wonders," Miss Caroline sighed.

"No, I won't put it in a bot yet. I think it is safer to stick with Roger's mod and Macy's mod instead. A bot is much more different then a home assistant."

"Come on, Edwin. Let's get the replacements and hurry along. We need to narrow our search down for Yankee and fast," Miss Caroline said as they got on the elevator.

"Do you remember when the tech was not so important for daily life. We might as well be dead one day if it can be infected like that. I cannot help but think of what they could do to a person's information once they hack into it."

"It . . . It is really chilling to think of what can happen much they get access to the Palm Planner and your phone. I don't want to know what happens when they get control of the chip," Miss Caroline folded her arm and whined a little at the pain.

"You took yours out?"

"I followed Plan C. . . I know you wrote it up to get rid of the Palm Planner. Your theory about what can develop in time. I don't know Edwin. But I am not willing to wait and find out," Miss Caroline said as the doors slide open to their floor.

Edwin took out his spare phone and started to hack into the office door. Miss Caroline stopped in place as she looked up to see the piece of paper she left on the door crack was gone. She took Edwin hand and nudge him. He peered up and motioned for Miss Caroline to get her stun gun out. They opened the door. Once inside they could not believe their eyes.

The place was torn to pieces. The lobby in ruins with the chairs thrown here and there. Miss Caroline went over to her desk and found it in bits. Her toy sunflower was gone. She started to check in the remains of her desk. Edwin hurried over to office itself where the door was broken down. It was in worse shape than the lobby. All the Christmas decorations that Miss Caroline had put up were torn down. They littered the floor. The brilliant sunlight pouring the room only made the next discovery worse. His attack bots he had programed were all over the ground. His desk was cover in what appeared to be blood. Edwin went over and covered his mouth when he found a finger with a note on it. It read, Don't finish the case, if you know what is good for you. Don't bother the cops neither. We own them.

He was the finger was an artificial one. Parts of a robotic arm were scattered over the desk. The robotic finger was still moving it. He heard Miss Caroline coming to the door. Edwin shouted, "Don't come in! It is bad! Very bad, Miss Caroline."

Her footsteps stopped short, she said, "They really want us to stop that badly, huh? There is no body right?"

"No."

"Then I am coming in," Miss Caroline came inside of the room and frowned at its state. She pointed at the windows and thru ins of it, but was left speechless as she saw the blood. She half expected the rest of the body to be on Walus's desk. His desk was left perfectly alone. Everything was still in order with Walus's space. Nothing was even remotely hurt. The gift wrap from Miss Caroline's gift still sat on the desk. The empty box was beside it. But there was nothing amiss with the box itself. Miss Caroline raised her eyebrow as she looked at the desk. She muttered, "We need to call the police. There is something wrong with this case. I don't know how deep it runs, but we are just getting started on it."

"We . . ." Edwin stopped as he continued to watch the finger jerk in a tapping motion. He started to time the beats. He stared at the note and thought of Yankee's call," Yes I would believe it. . . We have a strange case on our hands. . ."

"I should start calling the police-"

"No. . . I have think these people mean very serious business. You saw how they were following us at the campus."

"We are going to just give up then?"

"No, we are going to find Yankee and go deeper."

"Hmm. . ."

"I notified Walus that his holiday is going to have to be cut short. We need him for this one. Everything is all wrong. I hate how it is all panning out. You know that we have only the beginning of this puzzle. But . . ." Edwin cut himself off as he thought over something.

Miss Caroline with her gloved hand reached out to open Walus's desk up and check it.

"Miss Caroline, please don't touch-"

"I know keep my fingers off the evidence. I know. But I have gloves on," Miss Caroline waved her hand about as she reached down to check each other desk drawers. Everything was as Walus left it. It was nice and neat. Nothing had been harmed in the whole outrageous event.

Edwin said, "I think I know where they took Yankee."

"Good, I found the spare chips. They seem to be fine. . . Do you think Yankee will be okay as we try and get over to him?"

"He will be fine. He is a great officer."

Miss Caroline stood up and shook her head, "I think we should try get the police in involved. We can trust the commissioner. We have done plenty of cases for the police. We can trust them."

Edwin stood quiet for a while, "I don't think it is safe to try it. I have been gathering the evidence here. These people are risky. Miss Caroline, I sincerely think we ought to leave the police out of it."

"I am going to them. We need all the help we can get in finding Yankee. The police need to know," Miss Caroline walked out of the room and pulled out her back up cell phone.

Edwin hurried forward and took her arm, "I know where Yankee is. But we got to hurry. We won't have much time to spare to get to him."

Miss Caroline hovered her fingers on her spare cell phone. She took her notes from her jacket and handed it off to Edwin. She said, "Go ahead of me. I will catch up with you."

"Miss Caroline, splitting up does not seem wise. We need to get going together. I will need your help in getting Yankee out of there alive," Edwin took hold of her hand.

Miss Caroline nodded as she followed Edwin. She shook her head at the sight of the office as they were leaving. Something was fishy, even she knew it. But Edwin was not about to give up on the case. They had taken Yankee and no one messes with their friends. But still Miss Caroline knew that something needed to be done to inform the police. She followed Edwin out as she knew they would be on the move before installing the new chips in their arms.

With the hover cab hailed for the second time, they had managed to leave the office and get the chips installed as they reached the docks. The docks were quiet with plenty of bots going on about their automated tasks. Not even the trucks were loud as they went about their way. It was all thanks to their hover features. So, the haunting sounds of the ocean were loud along with the birds singing. The neon signs of the Watts City were turned off with respects to the rare sunshine in the city. (It was nearly enough to a national holiday to be called. But with business needed to be done and classes for students to be conducted the sunlight would be admired from afar.) The buildings at the docks were made perfectly spotless with the work of the new Mayor to keep Watts City clean and neat, even with the continuous rains.

Miss Caroline and Edwin were down from the hover cab. Miss Caroline rubbed her arm as she looked at the freshly installed chip. She frowned as she knew that alerting Walus and the others would make Edwin unhappy. But it had tot be done. She watched as Edwin scanned the whole area and started to run off in a direction. Miss Caroline froze as she got a news alert about their case. The headline read, Great Detective Walus Knight Hire By Millionaire to Find Murder of Olivia. Miss Caroline saw Edwin barely at the edge of her sight as there came Edwin's voice, "This way!"

She was not fortunate enough to get the notice from Walus. Nor was she aware of what the police commissionaire had warned them about. She would not get to report the autopsy notes over to Edwin. At least note before what happened next. She dashed over to find Edwin.

. . .

For once in a fucking season, the rain has chosen to stop on the fucking day that I want to get the hell out of here, Walus complained to himself, Nope, nope. It has to be sunny and cheerful. I just want a nice day where the God Fucking Damn air traffic isn't slowing down because of the sun! I swear!

Walus Knight impenitently sat next his beloved husband, Louis. Louis was chubby little man with a bald head and a loud Hawaiian shirt on. His jeans were faded and tired. But Louis with his thick neon green glassed was content in the waiting areas of the Watts Airport. There was not a care in the world for Louis as he kicked up his flip-flop feet up on the chair next to him. Walus tried not to grumble in the rainbow-colored airport. It was crafted with all of the latest of trends of triangles and edge edges for the arches. Walus rolled his eyes at the lack of taste in the airport and Louis just hummed to himself.

We could have gone on a private jet. We could have left hours ago. But no, not with Louis's taste in the mundane. He was all like Walus you look upset and tense. How about we go out on holiday to somewhere special. I believed him and agreed. Then he was like Walus how about something different. I bet you could get a kick out of the way I have been traveling lately. It was be very calming and different, Walus huffed. Not only did getting through the security check points take much too long for his taste. They had been stuck next to a very bad magician who had been trying to amuse a child next to them. The child had been insisting on crying and crying for the last several minutes. They were upset that the rain had stopped and it had yet to start again. The crumbly magician had been trying the whole coin behind your ear trick. But the guy could get it right.

Walus turned over to Louis who was amused with the sound of the latest dub-step music playing from the Oldies Station. Frustrated, Walus adjusted his sling and got up to the magician. He watched as the guy kept dropping the coin on the floor. Walus took out his cellphone and typed in a show. The holo-screen popped up with a tiny kappa on it. It bowed to the child and the child stared. The little kappa danced around a bit as the child's parent, who must have been to tired to care snapped back to reality. She was an older woman and noticed the clear lack of crying.

She said to Walus, "Thank you! Nana, is that your favorite show?"

"Yea, I love Mikey," the child answered.

"How about I play it for you?"

"Okay. . ." the child sniffled.

The magician asked, "How did you figure out what show he liked?"

Walus shrugged, "I get it was the doodle over there they made."

Walus was delighting in the silence as the woman took over keeping them quiet. He turned back towards to Louis. He gave a smug smile as he peered over to Walus as he came back to his seat. Walus stopped as he saw a very strange item on the floor. It was gray wallet with very old dollars in it. The whole amount seemed shy of five thousand. Walus knew he could simply hand it over to the security desk and they could take it over. He hadn't need to ponder over the ancient bills or the contents of the wallet. Looked over at Louis was nodding his head along to the music.

Just dreadful. If I could use my own nano-tech or even my Palm Planner I could find something better to listen. . . I know I cheated to make that kid shut-up. But I couldn't stand it. This anti-ad blocker we installed makes everything surreal. I cannot even hear the news. I don't even have alerts from Edwin . . . Was I too harsh on leaving him behind to deal with the strange case, Edwin stood stock still as he held the wallet, I mean it is not like he is in trouble. Right. . . Right?

It was then that the messages from Miss Caroline and the code from Edwin came in. Walus felt his stomach drop as he turned to his husband. Louis yawned in his chair as he peered up at the flight notice. The delays from the rain were to be expected. But it was funny when the sun came back. Everyone was always in shock of it. Louis stopped to see Walus's face. He sighed and hung his head. He knew what it meant. Louis got up and held out his hand and patted Walus's shoulder. He simply said, "You go. I can take the wallet to security."

"But the trip-"

"It is okay Walus. . . I know you are worried about your brother. There is something going on. I am sure. You go. Catch up on the data. I will simply meet you back at home when you are done."

"I am sorry. I just wanted-"

"It is okay. You don't need to apologize."

"But you had planned everything out. You ought to go out there. Your friends are waiting for you. They had a whole party planned out. Plus the whole escape the room thing. You really wanted to see the Old Francisco. You were going to take so many videos of it. It was going to be everything you wanted," Walus sighed.

Louis took the wallet and carefully studied it. He understandingly added, "I would rather be home here with you, Walus. I will get the hover car home. You just take care as you go out where you need to head."

"I have all of this information from Miss Caroline-"

"Just go, love. I will see you soon," Louis kissed Walus's head.

Walus was about to say something more when he realized he had several missed calls from the police department. He frowned as he turned over the wallet to Louis and rushed to listen to the messages. He started to run out of the airport and toward the exit. He fumbled through his phone after listening to message and dialed the chief. He listened as he heard her answer hurriedly. She hotly said, "Detective Knight! Your royal ass needs to get over the office now. We got problems! Get you self out of your fucking vacation mode and get here! NOW!"

"Chief Vicky. Always good to hear from you, too. Would this have to do with the Hot Sauces Girl and the dead rich girl?"

"Real classy, Detective Knight. Yes, it does have to do with them," the Chief glowed, "You have been keeping up with the news."

Walus passed the doors for the airport. He hailed a hover cab as the sunshine was dying down. He held his phone close to his face, "Edwin was reporting on a case. Miss Caroline was informing me about it as well. I just got the data transfer from them."

"Detective Knight, when I say we have fucking problems I mean it. Get here as soon as possible. Otherwise, someone might just be joining Miss Olivia in the land of the dead."

"Okay, I am on my way," Walus slipped into the cab sit and ran his palm over the scanner for his local request and his payment. Walus sat on the lime green chair as the driver bot held the wheel and started them away from the airport. Walus peered back at the airport and never understood how with hover cars around there was still not a better way to travel with planes. He shrugged as he pulled up the autopsy report. He read about how the poor girl had been cut apart and her chest ripped over. The whole affair screamed of the Black Dalia in details. But the girl herself was nothing like the Black Dalia. Walus leaned over as he looked at the images on his Palm Planner. He then switched over to the detailed notes about the DNA.

Walus bit his thumb. There on the list of information was Edwin's name. Someone was planting evidence. Edwin had been out of the area during the time of the murder. They had been together for whole entire weeks. Walus skimmed through rest as it gave more details about Olivia and her last know whereabouts.

Walus then pulled up Edwin's and Miss Caroline's latest news for him. Things were going south according to them. It was not so gone, Walus had no clue with what to do with all of the information. He would be going straight to the police station which was a few minutes away. But Walus read over the information about this Breathless woman. Walus reached out his hand and redirected the cab to the University. He called Chief Vicky, "I need to make a detour. It is for the case."

"WALUS! WE NEED YOU HERE!" Chief Vicky boomed.

"No, Vicky, something is not right. I need to see the dorms before I can be at the debriefing. It will take five minutes."

"WALUS-"

"Trust me, I have a hunch I need to see now or all the evidence will be gone. I will be back shortly," Walus prepared to hang up.

"WALUS-"

He pressed the end button, as the driver bot turned the hover cab back to the University. He knew there would not be a lot of time once they had begun the official search. He needed to get what he could. Walus watched as everything else blurred away as he watched the university come closer and closer. It was only a matter of time now.

The hover cab came to stop and Walus dashed. He was already thinking over the rate of time before the police car came and found him. He needed to confirm about his brother information. He was hoping it would not be too late before the police had their way. It was not everyday that things went so badly so quickly on the first step of a case. He hurried along the campus to the student dorms. He found the exact on he was looking for. To question all the students he needed would have to wait just a moment. He took out his hover droid and aimed up to the dorm room where he knew Kid had lived.

. . .

Edwin and Miss Caroline made it through the docks and were up and won the way searching for something. The detective ran so quickly he was leaving poor Miss Caroline falling behind. Her lovely heeled boots were proving to be a poor fashion choice for the day, especially now with the slow return of the rainfall. The clouds overhead were darkening and the walkways were slippery. Miss Caroline huffed and puffed to keep up with Edwin.

Edwin turned the corner where the third and fourth slipping buildings were located. The place was a shipping area with was wide and big. Edwin peered up and down the area just as Miss Caroline came from the back. Edwin pulled out his spared phone and started to type things in. He knew he needed access to the cameras in the place. He would have to case it first before blinding rushing in for Yankee. The whole shipping building had the logo of a whale with the name Jayden pasted next to it. Edwin focused on his typing.

He did not pay heed to the sounds of sirens behind them. Nor did he notice Miss Caroline pulled on his arm as she dragged him out of view. Edwin followed along as he kept on his task. Miss Caroline bit her lip as she made a decision about the cop car.

Edwin snapped his fingers and pointed to his data. He smiled, "I found Yankee. He is on the third floor. He is no worse for ware."

"You know this is a trap, Edwin," Miss Caroline whispered.

"We need to save our friend," Edwin said as he started to make his way in.
