1.
Clara.
Finally I'm here.
Where I've always wanted to be.
After training so hard and finally putting that degree of mine to good use, I'm where I wanted to be.
A therapist.
A damn good one too.
At least, I think I'm a good one.
Every now and then, I have patients that make me lose my patience.
But you're not supposed to cuss them out.
Nobody said anything about not cussing them out mentally.
I was currently dealing with my last patient for the day, a girl by the name of Yolanda Chester.
She was always the last appointment on a Monday afternoon, due to her job.
So now she was sitting in the chair.
"So tell me Yolanda, how has your day been?" I asked.
For the first time in months, she had a smile on her face.
"Wonderful! I followed your advice and I dumped Kent. I gave him an ultimatum and he left."
"Wow, I'm happy for you!" I exclaimed, hugging her.
I meant it, she went through a lot with that no good excuse of a man.
Yolanda's boyfriend of three months, Kent, was an alcoholic who'd insult her and make her feel bad about herself at night and compliment her during the day.
When she first came to me, she was so skinny you could see her bones.
She would cry and cry and then leave.
That continued for a week, until she decided to open up to me.
She went through a lot with Kent.
Your typical met at a party, then dated for a few months before he moved into her house.
Yes, you heard right, he moved in.
From there, he quit his job and had her working overtime from Tuesday to Fridays.
When she came home, he would demand food. If he didn't like it, he would throw it on the floor and hurl insults at her.
She'd still have to clean the house.
Had it been me, I'd go Angela on his ass.
The first day of insult, he'd be out of my house.
Matter of fact, the day he quit his job.
And it wasn't as if they had a child together.
"I'm happy too! I deserve better." she said.
"Of course you do." I said, proud that my words brought about a positive change in her life.

After Yolanda left, I got ready to lock up.
"Hey."
I jumped but sighed when I realized that is was only James, my colleague.
He was this cutie, with chocolate skin and tempting brown eyes.
Something about him seemed a bit familiar.
He ran a gym next door.
Since I got here, he has been trying to get me to go out with him.
"Boy, I was bout to knock you out." I said, laughing.
"With your fists or with your lips?" he asked.
I rolled my eyes.
"Boy stop playing. You know damn well you would've ended up with a black eye."
"And then I'd get a kiss as damages, win win situation if you ask me." he said, leaning against the door frame.
"Don't you have an office to lock?"
"Already did it, waiting on you. You promised that we could grab a couple drinks this afternoon."
I groaned, remembering that the last time he asked me out I told him Monday.
"Let me lock up."
*************************
After I locked up, I put on my coat and walked towards my car.
Having "Dr." in front of your name really has its perks.
Like a sexy black Audi.
And respect.
But a sexy black Audi.
"You know I have my car." he said.
"Exactly, you'll drive in yours and I'll drive in mine."
"Can't control those hormones around me?"
"I can, but the question really is can you?"
He laughed.
"Touche."
Shaking my head, I got into my car and he got into his.
********************
"So finally, Dr. Thronen decided to give me a chance."
"Keep talking and you won't get a second time." I joked.
"Keep joking and I'll kiss you."
I nearly choked on my drink.
Now as far as I remembered, I never kissed anyone before.
So if James does kiss me I'll be hella flustered.
"Choking on your dirty thoughts?"
"Nah on your dirty thoughts."
He laughed.
"You know, you're really pretty."
I smiled and played with my drink.
"Like a monkey with make up." I said.
"Even sexier."
I made a face.
"Boy, you really nasty."
"It's just sweat from the gym."
"Sure..."
"Go on a date with me and you'll see just how clean I could be."
I gulped and looked down.
"Something wrong?"
"Oh no! I'd love to go out with you!"
The people at the bar gave me a look while James chuckled.
"You know Dr., if you wanted me that badly all you had to do was whisper."
*******************
We talked and drank a bit more until it was time to go home.
I drove off in the direction of Aaron's house.
When I got home, Nathan came running into my arms.
"Good night auntie!" he yelled.
I laughed.
"Good night my little prince. How was your first day of kindergarten?"
"It was aite." he said, looking away.
I made him look at me.
"What went down?"
"A girl called me nappy headed."
I gasped.
"How dare she?" I asked, already getting angry.
"I told Ms. Jenkins and when she asked her to apologize she said that if her mom said it it must be true."
I shook my head, already disgusted.
Some adults really need to stop with this nonsense.
"Did you tell Mommy and Daddy?"
He nodded.
"Where are they?" I asked.
"In the kitchen, talking."
"I'll be back."
****************
"No Aaron, I'm not taking this lying down! That bitch got some nerve telling her daughter to call my son that!" yelled Mel.
"Calm down babe."
"Hell no! I will snatch her edges up! Nappy headed! The same nappy head she went after and got that daughter of hers! I have a mind to beat her down!"
"Good night Mel." I said.
"It's not a good night Clara! Did you hear what my baby had to go through on his first day? Racism!"
"I know, but this is the society we live in. Nathan is still young, we'll just have to build his confidence. He's in the living room looking all sad. He needs you guys." I answered.
Sighing, Mel and Aaron went into the living room to pacify Nathan.
I honestly felt bad for him, that he had to hear this at such an early age when his mid is still young and open to learning.
That woman better pray she doesn't cross paths with me.
