02; Seeing Double
"Tracy wasn't just having trouble sleeping, it was a real condition. She was having night terrors." Lydia informed as they stood in the school parking lot, circling Stile's jeep.
"Well, now she's the night terror, considering no one can find her." Stiles grumbled.
"Okay, I know were all tired and miserable-" Scott paused, turning to a wide eyed Mason, who seemed to keep soaking in every word. "Except for you."
"Oh, I'm sorry. This is all just mind blowing." Mason said excitedly, pointing at Kira. "I mean, you're a kitsune! I don't even know what that is!"
Kira smiled awkwardly and nodded. "I'm still learning."
"Liam, we said you could tell him, not invite him to the inner circle." Stiles groaned, already growing tired of the new addition.
"I-I'm in the middle circle?" The awestruck sophomore asked, eyes wide.
"No!"
"Guys, back to Tracy." Scott sighed. "She's just a lone wolf, we can find her."
"One lone, serial killing wolf."
"Well, she only killed one person. The other two were mauled" Stiles pointed out. "What do we do when we catch her?"
"I say we put her down." Malia suggested, earning stares from the pack, while Mason nodded.
"Intense."
"Guys let's concentrate on catching her first. We'll figure out the rest later." Scott said.
"Now that that's settled, next order of business." Stiles pulled a stack of papers from his bag, slamming it down on the hood of his jeep.
"What's that?" Lydia asked warily, glancing at the thick pile.
"I did a little research-"
"A little?" Liam asked, raising an eyebrow. Stiles just glared at him before continuing.
"Anyways, I did a little research online and in the bestiary, varying from resurrection to doppelgängers." Stiles flipped through the papers. "I realized that resurrection might be a bit of a stretch, but listen to this: In fiction and folklore, a doppelgänger is a look-alike or double of a living person, sometimes portrayed as a paranormal phenomenon, and in some traditions as a harbinger of bad luck. In other traditions and stories, they recognize your 'double-goer' as an evil twin."
"You seriously believe Claire's evil? Look at her." The group turned to see the girl in question getting out of her car, stopping to stare at the high school uneasily before muttering something to herself. "She's harmless."
"Matt seemed harmless, and who was right about him being evil?" Stiles asked, waving his hands around. "Oh yeah, me! Hey, Scott? Where are you going?" He yelled after his best friend's retreating figure, who was heading towards Claire, despite Stile's accusations.
"Hey." He said, making her jump slightly as he appeared at her side. "What's up?"
"Hi." She greeted, sucking in a deep breath. "Trying to work up the courage to actually go inside. People skip the first week all the time, right?"
"It can't be that bad." He said, giving her a supportive smile.
"I'm just not used to all the attention. It's like, everyone is watching me." Claire sighed, glancing over his shoulder. "Kinda like your friends are."
Scott whipped his head back to see his pack turn abruptly, attempting to look like they weren't just staring at the two. "I'm so sorry for them, they-"
"It's alright, I get it. I'm, the new girl. And you guys seem pretty close knit, they're bound to be wary." She shrugged. "Especially if the new girl looks a little bit like an old friend."
"You mean Allison." Scott said as they started their way up the sidewalk.
"What happened? No one really talks to me, so I haven't been able to ask." She shrugged, looking up at him. "Did she move or something?"
"Actually, she uh," He cleared his throat and looked up at the sky, his next words tugging at the wound that was reopening from the girl's arrival. "She's not exactly with us anymore."
The girl stopped in her tracks, gazing at him in utter shock as she sick to her stomach. "Oh my god, I am a terrible person." She breathed, shaking her head. "I am so sorry, I can't believe I just brought that up. I'm-oh my god."
"It's okay." He shook his head sadly, giving her a small smile. "You didn't know. Let's uh, let's get to class."

Claire glanced up quickly, making sure her stickler of a biology teacher didn't catch her before pulling out her phone, keeping it under the desk. She opened up the search engine, typing 'Allison Argent, Beacon Hills'. She was almost shocked by the amount of results, selecting the first article that popped up. She skimmed through it, her chest heavy as she read about the poor girl being mugged, her attacker stabbing her in the stomach.
She was about to exit when she came across the photo, her heart sinking to her stomach as she screenshotted before opening her album. The boy in front of her was so focused on the sophomore outside the classroom, he didn't even hear her pulse rise as she swiped between a selfie she had taken about a month ago, and Allison Argent's school photo. She could understand the same hair color, or eyes, but that wasn't the case. The two were identical, from the jawline to dimples. She could feel her throat closing up as she raised her hand, trying to ignore the way it shook.
"Yes, Claire?" The teacher asked, turning the attention of the whole class on her.
"May I-" She cleared her throat, cringing at how shaky her voice was. "May I use the restroom?"
"Take the pass." Claire scrambled up quickly, pulling her bag over shoulder and heading towards the door, flinching slightly when Scott reached out to touch her arm. She grabbed the pass and walked out, muttering a rushed apology when she collided with a younger boy on her way out.
Claire shoved through the door of the nearest girls' room, gripping the sink tightly as she struggled to breathe. She reached for her inhaler, fingers fumbling as she pulled the cap off and shook it frantically before bringing it to her lips and pressing down on the tube.
It wasn't possible. There's no way you can look exactly like someone.
Claire nearly jumped out of her skin when the fire alarm went off, blaring through the halls. She stepped out of the bathroom and strained to see over the crowd, looking for one person. Scott. She finally spotted him walking the opposite direction as everyone else and went to follow, only to have a hand grab her wrist.
"It's a fire drill." Theo said, watching her carefully.
"Yeah, I just need to get something from my locker." She replied slowly, tugging her arm from his grasp. He nodded in response and she walked to her locker, opening it and pretending to look through it until he left. She lifted a notebook, confused at what she saw.
"What the hell?" Claire looked over her shoulder, making sure no one was still in the hall as she gingerly pulled the dagger out, holding it by the little ring at the end. She had no idea what it was, or why it was even in her locker in the first place. Glancing down the hall once more, she dropped it into her bag, eyebrows furrowed as she shut her locker and made her way down the empty hallway. She stopped when she saw Scott and his friends rushing out of the school, carrying something in their arms.
"Where's Scott going?" Claire asked, interrupting the conversation between the sophomore she had bumped into and another brunette girl.
"Uh-hospital I guess." He said, eyes wide. He was clearly lying, but she nodded and walked quickly down the hall, pushing through the double doors in time to see Scott, Stiles, and Malia getting into a blue jeep.
"I'm so gonna regret this." She sighed, jogging to her car and opening the door, leaning over it to see the jeep pulling out of the parking lot. She waited a few seconds before turning on the engine and following.
Claire trailed the jeep for a few miles, parking a little bit down the road from where they stopped, the sign visible from her car.
Beacon Hills Animal Clinic.
"Hospital my ass." She muttered, slumping against the seat in wait.
