05; Daggers And Nightclubs
"If ninety-nine point nine percent of our DNA sequence is the same as other humans, at could account for the missing point one percent difference?" The teacher asked, walking back and forth in front of her desk. "Theo?"
"Um, nucleotides." He answered, looking up from his book.
"That's right." She nodded, looking at Claire as she raised her hand. "Yes Claire?"
"Can there be more than one species in the same DNA?" She asked, Scott and Kira turning to look at her. The alpha had called her last night to fill her in on what Deaton said when he stopped by Scott's house.
"No. But there can be multiple sets of DNA in the same individual." She replied, gaining Scott's attention again. "We call that a chimera."
Claire quickly scrawled the word Chimera along the top of her notebook, tapping her pen on the side.
"Anyone know where that term comes from? Sydney?"
"Greek Mythology." Sydney answered, excited that she could actually contribute for once. "It's a lion, with a goat coming out of it's back and a tail that ends in the head of a snake."
"That's right Sydney. Would you like to read us the full Wikipedia entry off your phone?" The girl looked down sheepishly, placing her phone on the desk, Scott writing chimera in his own notebook. "But that does get us into the next topic of mutation. As you know from the reading, DNA is a fragile molecule. Isn't that right Scott? Or did you miss last nights assigned reading?"
"Kind of." He replied, Claire wincing slightly.
"Kind of? Or yes?"
"Mostly yes."
"Well then. Thank you for another helpful transition in topic." She scoffed, his shoulders tensing visibly. Claire leaned forward and placed her hand on his arm, rubbing her thumb across his bicep comfortingly, causing him to relax considerably under her touch. Kira's lips pressed into a thin line as she watched Scott put his hand over Claire's before swallowing hard and looking away. "Drop forms. All those now acutely aware that they do not belong in this class, you should fill one out. The rest, will be on my desk."
She slapped two forms onto certain students desk before waving them above her head and placing them on her own, dismissing class. Claire watched sadly as Scott got up, staring at the pile and grabbing one.

"Did you get in and see Lydia?" Scott asked as Malia and Stiles walked over to their table in the library.
"No." He groaned, rubbing his hands together. "I tried using my free period, but she's still in the ICU."
"Only family allowed." Claire stated, tucking a curl behind her ear.
"We got one thing though." Malia said, setting down a large book and opening it, the word Bestiary sitting boldly on the page.
"Anything in here about half werewolves, half Kanimas?" Kira sighed, flipping through the pages.
"Chimera." Claire corrected, pursing her lips, Stiles and Malia staring at her dumbfounded.
"A what?"
"Chimera." Scott explained. "It's a creature made up of numerous parts. And if Liam said he found two burial sites.."
"That means Tracy's not the only one." Claire finished, biting down on the inside of her cheek.
"Who's the second chimera?" Kira asked, looking around at the pack.
"And why would they bury them?" Stiles added, eyes locking with Scott.
"Deaton thinks it's part of their process."
"The people in masks." Malia concluded as Claire flipped through the bestiary, seeing names like Berserker and Wendigo. She stopped when he came upon a page that read Dopplegänger.
"Hey, this is one of your theories, right?" Claire asked, looking up at Stiles.
"Yeah. I've got more on it at home if you want it." He replied, slowly getting used to the idea of her sticking with them.
"Thanks." She nodded, pulling out her phone and taking a picture of the page.

"This way." Melissa breathed as soon as they stepped out of the elevator, ushering them down the hall. "He came in about fourty-five minutes ago." Claire could hear a strangled scream coming from one of the rooms as a doctor walked up to them.
"Melissa. I'm gonna find the anesthesiologist covering the key pain, see what you can do." He said quickly, before walking back down the hall.
"Okay." She nodded, another scream of pain sounding, making her stare at the room.
"What's happening to him?" Claire gasped, eyes wide.
"It's the pain nothing's working." She replied, the cries getting louder. "We've already pumped him full of morphine."
"Can't they do anything to help him?" Kira asked, her voice drenched in worry.
"Put him into a medically induced coma." She sighed. "It's how we help burn victims deal with pain."
"Let me see if I can help." Scott said, the three of them entering the room. A boy around maybe fifteen was strapped to the bed, his back arching in pain as he cried out and screamed, Claire's hand going to her mouth.
"Please, please stop." He moaned, Kira and Claire looking at each other in panic. "Please make it stop!"
Scott took ahold of the boy's hand, black vines trailing up his arms as his face contorted into a look of pure pain, the veins reaching his neck.
"Scott." Claire choked out, watching in horror as he groaned in pain.
"Let go." Kira gasped, her and Melissa pulling his hand away. "Come on let go of him." The younger boy's eyes rolled back slightly as the pain was lifted, finally pulling him away. Claire reached out and put her hand on his shoulder as he collapsed against the bed.
"What just happened?" She breathed, looking at his girlfriend and mother.
"He took his pain." Melissa replied, holding him as he gasped for air.
"I'm okay." Scott nodded, looking up at the worried girl before glancing back at the boy. "Let me see it. Let me see his arm."
Melissa undid on of his restraints and pulled back the bandage to reveal what looked like melted flesh, the skin black.
"Holy.." Claire gasped.
"What is that?" He asked, looking up at his mom.
"The lab results say scorpion venom."
"Scorpion?"
"I know. That's not the weirdest part." Melissa looked back at them before covering the wound again. "Because a sting this bad means that he should have been dead ten hours ago. And the scorpion that stung him, would have been ten feet tall."
Claire looked over at the poor boy in surprise, her hand resting on her bag where she could still feel the dagger she had neglected to remove.
"Please tell me that doesn't mean there's a giant scorpion running around Beacon Hills." Kira said slowly, eyes wide.
"Lucas." The boy mumbled, clutching onto his sheets as he looked at them. "It was Lucas."
"Hey, Corey." Scott leaned closer to him. "What Lucas did to you, he's gonna do it to someone else and it's gonna be much worse."
"We need to know what happened." Kira pleaded, clasping her hands together. With their attention on Corey, Claire turned slightly, reaching into the bag and slowly pulling the dagger out. Glancing over her shoulder, she bent down, slipping it into her boot discreetly before turning back around.
"I don't really know." He strained to sit up. "He's never been like that before."
"Like what?"
"Aggressive." He said, shaking his head. "We were taking it slow, but it wasn't me, he was the shy one. We were making out today and it was like he was a different person."
Kira pursed her lips before asking the next question. "Different how?"
"Like, super confident. We were just kissing, and then I felt a sting on my arm." He looked at them, eyes wide. "And then I looked up at him and I swear his eyes turned black."
"You mean totally black?" Kira asked.
"The whole eye." He shook his head, almost pleadingly. "But it was only for a second. Then he says sorry, that he'd see me at the club tonight, and just left. And then a few minutes later I'm in the worst pain of my life.
"Hold on. You said club?" Claire asked, stepping closer. "What club?"
"Every Friday night. Sinema."

"A kid turning into a half scorpion, half werewolf. Is there even a myth for that?" Kira asked as they walked along the alley behind the club.
"Sumarian." Scott said. "I read something about it in the bestiary."
Claire could feel the weight of the dagger in her boot as they burst through the doors, an alarm sounding imeadietly, red lights flashing wildly. Kira reached for her belt, pulling a disk from the buckle. In one swift movement she launched it at the alarm, cutting it short.
"God, that is so cool." Claire breathed, shaking her head before Scott grabbed her hand and pulling her through the curtain of beads, Kira following shortly after. They made their way through the fog, Kira's eyes on Scott and Claire's interlocked hands.
Scott suddenly turned his head, eyes searching through the crowd before running towards another curtain. They broke through in time to see Lucas on top of Liam, stingers grown out of his arms and down his back.
"You're a little late!" Liam growled, Scott launching at the two, while Kira pulled off her belt, transforming into a sword. The alpha landed a kick to Lucas' chest, sending him backwards before being pushed back into the ground.
Lucas turned towards her with a growl, stepping closer as she clenched her jaw. Without a second thought, Claire pulled out the dagger, twirling it on her middle finger and holding it firmly in her hand before raising the dagger high and jumping up, shoving it into his shoulder. She took a step back, eyes widening as he growled at her, slamming her back into the wall. Claire let out a moan of pain when she landed hard on her side, Lucas standing over her as she struggled to push her self up, biting on her cheek to keep from crying out.
Kira let out a cry as she came at him with her sword, Lucas blocking it easily until she sent into a wall, Liam grabbing him and slamming him onto the ground. His eyes shifted from their deep black to their normal color, breathing heavily as Kira seemed to be surrounded by a fiery aura, her own eyes glowing. She spun around and yelled something in Japanese, bringing the sword down over Lucas' body.
"Kira!" Scott grabbed her wrist and stopped the blow, the Kitsune glaring at him before her expression softened, the fox aura diminishing. "Is every one okay? Claire?"
"I'm fine." She assured, wincing as she used a speaker to pull herself up.
"We need to get him out of here." He said, looking down at his unconscious figure. "Liam, give me a hand."
The two werewolves grabbed the boy, pulling him up when an arrow pierced his chest, spraying blood across their faces and causing them to drop him. They all looked up as the arrow retracted, the wire pulling it to the balcony, where three men encased in metal stood.
"Why did you do that?"
The one in the middle, the leader, replied in a gravely voice.
"His condition was terminal."
"What does that mean?" Claire asked, eyebrows furrowed. She suddenly felt extremely guilty for not totally believing Malia about the men in the masks. They didn't reply, just turned away, clicking sounds echoing from them.
"What does that mean?" Scott repeated her words frantically, the masked man turning towards him and uttering one word.
"Failure."
