Christmas was nearing at Hogwarts and Lily and James were trying to find a home to live in. In the weekends, Harry would tag along and help his parents. One weekend, Lily had an amazing idea.
"Harry! Come on! We need to get you back to school!" James screamed to upstairs, where Harry was inspecting the bedrooms.
"I'm coming, dad! Just one more minute!" Harry answered. James looked quite stressed, Lily saw.
"James, what is wrong?" she asked him.
"Oh, it's nothing. I just don't like having to hide."
"I know, love. You didn't like it either back then," she remembered.
"I just wish Dumbledore would let us be public," he said, just as Harry came downstairs.
"Me too, dad. My classmates have been asking me why I keep disappearing on weekends. I have been telling them my cousin is sick and that I've been visiting him. No idea how they buy it, but they do," Harry told his parents while looking a bit confused. James and Lily laughed.
"Hey, I have an idea..." Lily suddenly said.
"What is it, honey. We just walk into the Ministry and let everyone be confused? Great idea!" James answered.
"No, it doesn't have to do with that problem. It has more to do with our search for a new home. We have been looking everywhere in the country for a new house, while there is a building that we could just use."
"Which one? If you mean our old home, that one's completely destroyed," Harry said.
"No, not that one. James, what about your parents' house? It has been in your family for ages, I don't think anyone would try to steal it from you," Lily said.
"I don't know. There hasn't been anyone living in it for over 13 years, as far as I know, so it will be a bit dusty, but we could always check," James thought out loud.
"Okay, what time is it?" Lily said while looking at her watch. "It's 3. You have to be back at 4, so we have an hour to go there, explore it and get you back. Should be enough."
"Let's go and tell that man we're leaving," James said.
A couple of minutes later, the small family had apparated to James' childhood home.
"Wow, dad, you used to live here? It's huge!" Harry said, full of amazement.
"Yes, this is where I used to live. Let's go. I don't think the doors will be locked with spells. They used to be, but dad recast them every year because otherwise, the thieves could get in."
Lily unlocked the door with a simple "Alohomora" and entered the hallway. It was, as James had warned them, quite dusty, but nobody minded. After all, it was an immense manor and they had plenty to explore.
"Okay, come on, Harry, let me show you my room!" James was excited. Who wouldn't be when returning to their childhood home after over a decade. He ran away and Harry ran after him. The boys left Lily to look around the kitchen and living room. It had been ages since she had been here. The last time had been at Fleamont and Euphemia's funeral. Bad memories.
Meanwhile, James and Harry were running through the house, James showing Harry every little corner. Harry loved to see everything, and James was happy to notice that everything had been as he had left it after his parents' funeral. He hadn't been back after, but it had been so long ago, that all things he thought about were happy memories.
After Harry's tour through the manor, they all met up in the living room.
"And? What did you see, Harry?"
"It's amazing. So much room and the library, Hermione would love to live there! And dad's room was so big! Even Dudley's room and my room combined are smaller!" Harry's eyes gleamed with enthusiasm.
"Did you find anything odd? Anything out of order?"
"No, except for the dust, of course. Everything seemed fine. All bedroom were neat, just how mom always did it and the rest seemed fine too," James responded.
"So, are we going to live here?" Harry asked, almost jumping.
"Of course we are!" Lily said and Harry hugged her and his dad hard. They all laughed together.
[A/N] Hello peeps! I'm so sorry for not updating in a while, but here I am, back again. Summer vacation is upon me and that means: updates! Or, at least, I hope so. We are going on holiday for 2 weeks in total, and then I certainly won't update because a) WiFi on holiday is always shitty and b) I am probably not allowed to take my iPad/phone with me. Also: this happened a long time ago, but thanks for the 1.4K reads! I am so happy and honoured! Thank you!
