Soulderton

Mourning came. The violet sky giving way to the red of the sun's arrival. I see that the light hasn't peeked past the mountain. Soulderton is still in the shadow. I am near a side road. Cut trees and brush at my side of the dirt road. I wonder about it. About how many, and how often. The other side is the town into view.

Following the road, I got side tracked. Lost in thought, in the mindset of wonder, I thought of the possibility. Different scenarios never played. I walked ever more. No sounds except for fowl. A strange word to me. Fowl, I was accustomed to herrti. Same meaning, different languages. Perhaps, being to accustomed to my native tongue is a disadvantage. But I gambled the same on this. Evaluation is key. I must understand, on the fly? I don't know. Perhaps?

A couple of hours by. People are driving by me. I am at a main road. How? Obviously, it is paved with yellow lines at the sides. I guess that's one of four major streets. I don't know which. It can't be Main. No shops around. It is good to keep looking behind often during the entire time. A mental map for future use is handy. It is exhausting to walk this far. Miles of road gone past. Even more ahead, twisting around in curves. Many side streets peeking out as I walk.

I don't dare to call Jane yet. The mournings are rough on her. She probably sleeping in. Overnight shifts and years of conditioning will do that. I'll let her sleep. After all, I have other reasons. Scouting around the area. If I did find shops, what would it be? All I found was residential homes.

This long stretch is boring. I kept informing myself that I am doing it out of importance. To remember locations, so I could return to the ship. Still, I grew tired of walking. Both of us together in this walk. Tired, so tired of walking.

Sister on my left side of my vision coming into view. I see the stern look. Her brunette hair in a mess. The rusty truck slowly pulling into a stop. Her expression is odd. She change her expression as she wonders.

"Hi Jane. Care to pick your younger sister up?"

"Umm, sis? Why are you here?"

That question caught me off guard. Maybe Leahemi didn't tell her. Anyways, she let me in. Both myself and One in the back got on. Jane so confused. But she turned around the truck and drove. Anyways, her demeanor returns. I know I can answer her. Just the questions building up. But I'll let her concentrate on the road. She seems to want to say something. So I start.

"Leah, invited me. Didn't tell you, I guess. So unusual."

"Yes. I was surprised. I guess Fey convinced her. For a while Leah couldn't send it. She was editing it a lot. Glad, she did," Jane replied. She smiled. I am relieved. Leah did send the message. I am careful about what to think about. I didn't want a lecture from her. Feelings of regrets as I didn't inform her either.

"Don't worry about it. I would like a heads up. It is a nice surprise still."

. . . Did I? Maybe it doesn't matter. Happy that Jane is in a great mood, tired but great. My mind is tied too. I thought I saw one of Pyrotank's stupid foreshadowing. Still I going to the apartment. In, the, mourning? Oh crap. I didn't see this coming. Jane...

She smiled. "Couldn't fool you for long. Knew that you're coming. Leah misses you. I sent the message. I wish that the two of you make amends," she confessed.

"Me too. I'm sorry older sister. For everything," I tell her.
