14. Deceit

Barry's POV

"I'll just have three double cheeseburgers, two large orders of fries, and a large milkshake," I say to the cashier as she widens her eyes at my order. "I'm not that hungry."

She gives me a crazy look before typing the order into the register as I turn and look back at Raven, who was still gazing at the menu up on the wall. For some reason, just seeing her standing there lost in thought was almost mesmerizing to me, even if it was such a simple act.

"And for you?" the lady asks, looking around me at Raven.

Raven steps forwards. "I'll just have a number 2."

I glance back up at the menu, seeing that it was only a chili cheese dog with a side of tots. "You're sure that's all you want?"

She nods her head. "Yeah, I'm starving."

Another doubt crosses my mind at that moment, only because we were speedsters...it was normal for us to eat five meals in one sitting; it was how we got our energy to run. Every time Raven and I have gone out to eat before, she's gotten a ton more than me, only because she has to fuel her speed and her other ability. It was more than odd to hear her only ordering something that I would snack on in my free time.

After I pay the cashier, we take our seat in a booth in one of the corner. As we sit down, I can't help but notice that we were the only ones here; I guess it was later than I had originally thought.

"So, can you tell me more about Wells?" Raven asks me randomly as I furrow my eyebrows at her.

"Harry? What do you mean?" I counter ask, not sure what she was meaning, after all.

She shrugs her shoulders, looking uncomfortable. "I don't know, I feel like I um...barely know him."

For a moment, I wonder to myself what was up with her, but then I remembered my whole flashpoint experience. Raven must not have gotten to know him as well as she had in the other timeline; it's the only explanation for her question, even if it was really random.

I lean forwards and fold my hands on the table. "Well, I mean, you know he's from earth 2, and that he's Jessie's dad, right?"

She thinks for a moment before nodding her head. "Yes."

"I'm not sure what all you remember exactly, since before flashpoint, you knew him pretty well. All you really need to know is that we're pretty much all he has...he's not really the most friendliest guy in the universe, but you get used to him."

Raven is silent for a moment as she nods her head. "So on earth 2, is he like a...doctor there? Or a scientist?"

"He runs S.T.A.R. Labs there too, so yeah, he's a scientist." I pause as I cock my head to the side. "What made you think of asking that?"

She looks as if she's taken off guard. "I don't know, I was just thinking after you bumped into him in the hall and he got that toothpaste stain on you. I just realized I didn't know much about him."

"Ah," I simply say, something about all of this being suspicious to me. I don't have much time to contemplate about it though before a lady is bringing us our food, causing the two of us to bust open our bags and start eating.

I go to take a bite out of my hamburger when I stop. Raven carefully picks up the fork on the table to eat her chili dog, but something bothered me. "Um, Raven...I thought you were right handed?"

She looks down at her hand for a moment before back up at me, a gently yet odd laugh coming over her. "Oh yeah, you're right. I'm just...tired."

I set down my burger. "You're too tired to remember which hand to eat with?"

She must have picked up my darker tone, because soon she's shooting a nasty look back at me. "I guess I'm just a little disoriented after getting my body back."

It was after she said this when I put the pieces together. Of course Raven wasn't acting like herself; that's because this wasn't her...this was the meta.

I decide to play it cool. "You're right...sorry."

She gives me a questioning look before picking the fork back up in her right hand this time, using it to eat her food. I watch her carefully as she takes a bite, anger starting to control me. Questions started to spin in my mind: why would she want to switch bodies with Raven? Where is my Raven?

"Hey Raven," I fade out as she looks back up at me, her eyes searching my face. "Can you explain to me again what happened before I woke up earlier? When your doppleganger got away?"

She speaks with ease. "I woke up and found her in the basement...the bitch shot me in the leg, but it healed right before you woke up."

I knew I caught her then. "You told me that she was gone when you woke up...nothing about getting shot or the basement."

She stops chewing after she hears that, and I knew that look in her eyes meant that she was about to run. Before I can get out another word, she's dashing out of the booth and out of the restaurant, but I was fast too. I quickly trail behind her as she races down the streets, trying her best to get away from me.

It doesn't take me long to catch up with her, and when I do, I tackle her. She grunts as we roll along the pavement, nothing but blurs passing my eyes. When we finally stop, I pin her down to the ground and yell in her face.

"Where is Raven!" I demand, fire in my eyes.

She laughs as she shakes her head. "Raven? I am Raven-"

I don't hesitate as I punch her across the face, a weird sensation coming over me. Never did I ever think I would be punching the girl that I loved.

Another grin dances across her lips. "Careful there, Barry. Don't forget that you're hurting your precious Raven's body...not mine."

My lips puff out, anger and frustration radiating from me. "You're right, but that doesn't mean I can't lock you away."

Her face drains of color as I pick her up, dashing back to S.T.A.R. Labs with her flung over my shoulder. Without hesitation, I open up a cell in the pipeline and throw her inside, locking the door. She quickly gets up onto her feet and beats on the glass, screaming at me to let her out.

"Barry?" I hear Cisco say through the sound system. "What in the hell are you doing? Why are you locking her in there?"

I mute the sound in her cell as I press a button to talk to Cisco. "Cisco, listen, she's not the real Raven. Her doppleganger switched bodies with her...we have to figure out where our Raven is."

Cisco growls lowly. "No wonder I couldn't track her earlier...try searching that house first, that's gotta be where she is."

My eyes trail back up to the Raven behind the glass, hatred on my face. Something about the situation made me remember the last time we had been in a situation like this...when I had learned that she was working for Zoom; when everything had changed.

"I'll be back, okay? Make sure she doesn't get out of there," I say to Cisco before I'm flashing out of there, praying to God that Raven was safe.

Raven's POV

"One last try..." I fade out as I stare at the metal bar in front of me, my hands throbbing. The best idea I had on how to get out of here and out of my cuffs was to slam my hands onto a metal bar I had found...hoping that they would eventually break off. Unfortunately, Cisco made sure his meta-cuffs were unbreakable, so of course it was taking longer than I had originally planned.

I take a deep breath as I glance down at my hands, seeing now that my wrists were starting to bleed where the cuffs were rubbing against my skin. I remembered then that I didn't have the ability to heal fast anymore...man, this really did suck.

A grunt escapes my throat as I throw my hands down one last time, my scream filling the air on impact. Pain shoots up my arms as I fall to the ground, hoping to open my eyes and see the cuffs off of my hands. However, when I do open them, I find that the cuffs are barely even dented...

I scream again, but this time, it wasn't out of pain; it was out of frustration. Tears start to fill my eyes as hope diminishes...I knew that I wasn't getting out of here, at least, not without some sort of help. Until then, I was stuck here alone.

I sob into my knees as I pull them to my chest, at least until I hear a voice upstairs. "Raven? Raven, are you here?"

My head shoots back up as I shout back. "Barry? Barry, is that you!"

"Raven!" I hear him shout back as I quickly stand, my heart starting to pound. The next thing I know, the door upstairs is busting open, leaving Barry standing in the doorway. A sigh of relief escapes my throat as he quickly runs down the stairs, wrapping me in his arms.

"Thank God you're okay," he breathes into my ear. "I'm so sorry...I'm sorry I didn't realize sooner that it wasn't you-"

"It's okay," I tell him, wishing that I could wrap my arms back around him. "I'm just glad that you figured it out."

He pulls away from me then as he looks down, noticing my cuffs. A look of anger washes across his face before he unlocks them for me, exposing my now bloodied and bruised wrists. His hands delicately grab them as he looks back up at me, pain in his eyes.

"I tried breaking them," I tell him as I look back at the metal rod. "Make sure to tell Cisco that those things are indestructible."

A faint smile appears on his face as he shakes his head. "I'm so sorry."

"How did you figure it out?" I ask him, taking the attention away from my now throbbing wrists.

He looks up for a moment as he licks his lips. "We were eating at that little fast food place around the corner when she grabbed a fork with her left hand...I knew that you were right handed."

I raise my eyebrows. "You seriously caught her because of which hand she used to eat?"

"Well, I kind of wondered after she ordered a chili dog, since you usually get the philly cheesesteak..." he fades out. "I should have figured it out sooner, like when she asked me about Wells...I should have known better-"

I furrow my eyebrows. "Wells? She saw Wells?"

Barry gives me a questioning look. "Yeah, she saw him and asked me about him. Why?"

"Look," I tell him as I point at the photo of him up on the wall. "I have a theory, but who knows if I'm right or not. Apparently this Raven has a sister, and she has lung cancer. I think she's stealing things for money to use for a cure...which might be why she has Wells up on the wall, along with other smart scientists and doctors. I think she knows that Well's might be smart enough to create something like that."

Barry steps forwards as he looks around at all of the papers scattered. "That makes sense...she seemed to be interested in getting to know him better, that's for sure. Enough of this nonsense for now though...let's get you home."

I faintly smile as he walks back over to me, scooping me up in his arms. I nestle my head in his chest, more than ready to get back home myself. "Thank you, Barry."

"Thank you for what?" he asks me, looking down.

I smile up at him. "For never giving up on me."

AWW, look how cute my OTP is! That's what I love about Raven and Barry; no matter what, they never give up on one another.

Look at me go guys, writing another chapter this soon? Hopefully I don't jinx it.

Don't forget to comment n' vote! xx
