Chapter-2
It was not working. Something was still missing. Something intense, strong. Timmy crossed a musical note on the sheet and replaced it with another. Again. This had been going on for hours now; months actually, if he counted the day when this song came to him. Strangely enough, it was a dream that first planted the idea of this song in him. A dream that included him, JingYu and a deserted seashore.
He closed his eyes and rubbed his temple. It was paining for some time now. Putting the guitar aside, Timmy flopped down on his bed, the mattress bouncing back from the impact. He felt so damn restless. After yesterday’s interaction with JingYu, he thought his thirst for getting the other man’s attention would be quenched a bit, but if anything, it had doubled up with vengeance, making his desperation sky rocket. Yes, he was desperate. He might not admit it to JingYu or anyone, but within the four walls of his room, he had no shame admitting that yes, he was desperate for Huang JingYu.
It was love at first sight for him. The ridiculousness of the reason he fell for the man still made him blush. What grown up person fell for someone seeing them play with a kitten?! No one! And the cat wasn’t even enjoying it! Honestly! Remembering it made him giggle, though. Despite his embarrassment, the scene, that turned his life upside down, never failed to make him inexplicably happy. It was a Friday afternoon, he was on his way to a jamming session with his friends. While bypassing a small park a sight caught his eye and made him halt on his track: a tall guy kneeling on the ground, the upper body leaning forward, talking to something invisible with an animated face. It looked so weird that Timmy frowned and squinted his eyes at the spot where the guy was looking and there it was! The tiniest kitten he had ever seen, lying on its back and getting its belly rubbed. Every time the kitty tried to roll away, the guy tickled it, scratched behind its head, baby-talked with it, making the cat putty on his hand. And throughout the entire time, this guy had such a childlike wonder, innocence and happiness around his eyes, his face that it stirred something within Timmy. Something that he wasn't even aware of possessing. That smile, so infectious that Timmy’s lips began to stretch from a smirk to a full blown grin without even his notice. He stood there till the guy got up and left hugging the kitten to his chest. And that was that.
No, it wasn’t that single day that made him crave JingYu like an addict, but a flame was ignited in him and that same week he spent hours roaming around the area to find the man again.
How ridiculous was that?
And the funny thing was JingYu wasn’t even the type Timmy liked. He knew he was attracted to men for some time now, and his preference had always been artistic gents. Guys that were associated with fine arts, especially music. So, when, after that day, he started to have flashbacks of JingYu’s face, began to see him with eyes closed, he was quite peeved, to be honest; it was like a thread was pulling at him, dragging his soul to JingYu. He didn’t want to go back to the park again, didn’t want to look for a stranger like a love struck puppy, but everyday, like a clockwork, he found himself roaming the area, searching eyes mapping the surroundings. And finally, after four long days, he saw him again. Coming out of a studio apartment, skin glistening with sweat beads, hair ruffled, some of the short strands falling over his forehead; deft fingers unrolling the sleeve of his left arm.
Timmy was lost to the point of no return.
He groaned as the memory of that late afternoon came back, and opened his eyes to the beige ceiling.
“JingYu. JingYu. JingYu. JingYu. JingYu.”
The name falling out of him like a chant, right palm hovering above his mouth, lips grazing the skin that had been touched by the man he loved. A touch. A flesh memory. A slow burn singing of the fire that could destroy him. Some burning felt so good. He was burning for the last three months now, and after yesterday, he wanted to burn even more.
He stretched his right arm above, fingers splayed. Closing the left eye, he looked at the ceiling through the gaps of his fingers. Timmy once thought, once he got to see the entire picture, the proverbial other side of the coin, this craving of him for JingYu might subside. People got disillusioned all the time after knowing more about the people they were infatuated with. Some of his friends had experienced it. He thought that might be the case with him, too. But it wasn’t. The more he knew, the harder he fell. Despite being aware of all the troubles that came with falling for an apparently straight man, he couldn’t stop himself. He didn’t try to. It wasn’t a mere physical attraction what he felt for JingYu. It was as if a part of his soul had been residing within the other man and once he saw him the halves became a whole. The emotions were that strong.
And because he was ready to go to any length for his love, he took the job at that pub. The reminder of it made him sour, hand falling down beside him. He got the job, of course. Well, it wasn’t hard to achieve, considering his musical talent and the mediocrity of the establishment. Hell, he should be doing concerts at the moment; even dad had hinted at introducing him to some popular names of the music industry. But he had to go and botch his career right up. Because of what?
Because of that bloody Huang JingYu.
He scowled remembering how greedy, predatory eyes slithered over JingYu’s body while he worked behind that bar. He had witnessed it with his own eyes all those times he went to that pub just to watch JingYu from afar. He hated them, wanted to go and smack them right on the face, but he hated JingYu’s haggard looking face the most. He was clearly not satisfied with the job but was forced to endure it in order to make the ends meet. Timmy had seen JingYu looking up at the sky numerous times. His face would light up sometimes, thinking about the dream that was still beyond his reach. Timmy wanted JingYu to reach them, to soar high, wanted him to achieve everything he deserved……..wanted to be a part of that dream too.
He would be, someday he definitely would be. Someday, JingYu would look at him and his face would light up and Timmy would be within his reach. Someday soon.
He sprang up from the bed with renewed resolve. He had songs to prepare for tomorrow’s show. The first time he would sing in front of his love. For his love. Of his love.
Tomorrow would be a new beginning.
