It was eight in the morning.
Jungkook never liked setting out so early. On weekends, he tries his best to sleep in until noon. Tries to rest as much as possible.
He likes work, of course. He's always been a strong worker, always knowing that he was going to go to school for business because his parents wanted him to work for their brand.
Since he was born, he's pretty much been set.
Though, he's fairly new to the industry, only recently finishing school and still somehow climbing his way to the top. Jungkook feels a bit too powerful.
The only time he feels he doesn't have power is when those damn Kims get in the way of their team.
Jungkook didn't go to school and race up to the top just to be overshadowed by some brand and their wonky fashion. He never understood why people even wanted to buy their clothes.
Especially when Kim Seokjin became the CEO a few years back, while Jungkook was still in University.
From the very beginning, Jungkook had been taught that they were against the KIM brand. Against the Kims. Always a threat.
And from since he can remember, his father had always told him that someday he'll have to beware of the oldest Kim son. Kim Seokjin.
In the business industry, it seems that everything has been planned for decades. It was as if their children were born just for this moment; the moment being rivalry.
They were definitely rivals.
Starting from the moment Seokjin became CEO of KIM, it seemed as if he was against Jungkook— actually, no, even before then, he was against Jungkook just by being a part of the family he was born into.
See, Jungkook is stingy.
If his parents were going to have such a big brand, Jungkook was going to try his damndest to keep the brand up and active. To be trendy, to give the people what they want. Nice fashion.
But KIM is in the way of their sales. Always trying to take over.
Neither of the two brands are over each other, nearly equal, with their back and forth of popularity. Some people can't choose between the two, others like one over the other.
It's too balanced.
Until recently.
That damn dress gained too much attention. Too many celebrities buying it just to post their gorgeous photos, modeling. Too many people were in love with the look of it.
It pisses Jungkook off.
But one thing pisses Jungkook off even more than that; as he was walking up to the conference room, eyes on the floor, he noticed a pair of white dress shoes halt just in front of him.
He glanced up, a bit irritated that someone would stop in front of him, but his eyes widened at the sight of Kim Seokjin standing in front of him.
"What—"
Seokjin was wearing such a ridiculous outfit. Neon orange blazer, same color slacks, white dress shoes, and white top under the blazer. Bright neon orange? Seriously?
"Jeon," he greeted. Sort of.
What pissed him off even more was Seokjin's face. The smirk that appeared, the cockiness in his voice as he spoke. That alone makes Jungkook want to step all over those polished white shoes.
"Kim." He crossed his arms. "Why are you here?"
Here, being Jungkook's building.
Here, being the last place that he thought he'd ever see the man— and he's seen him in some unexpected places before like at a candy store, the library, and once, just walking on the street.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" Seokjin refused to tell.
"No, but I would like to know why you're suddenly making clothes for women in the medieval era. Kinda dumb, Kim, not gonna lie."
The Kim scoffed at him, averting his eyes from him. "Whatever, Jeon. I don't need your jealousy. Suck it up— wait—" His eyes squinted at something.
Jungkook glanced over to where he was gaping, immediately recognizing that they were next to the conference room.
He saw not only his parents through the glass wall, but Seokjin's parents were also sat down next to them, all four peeking up at the two, speaking to each other as if they were at a museum and they were the display.
Jungkook tilted his head in confusion, but his parents glanced over at Seokjin, ignoring their son's expression.
Without another word, Seokjin stepped in front of him, going for the glass door and pulling it open.
He left it open for Jungkook, but as Jungkook went to grab the handle, he let it go, that same smirk appearing as the door shut right on Jungkook.
Jungkook glared at the man walking away through the glass door.
He's so annoying and childish for no reason. So petty.
Jungkook walked into the room as well, noticing that Seokjin's parents were smiling up at him.
Doyun and Eunji, Seokjin's dad and mom, had never directly been a problem to Jungkook. Only Seokjin had been such a pain in the ass.
So, he smiled weakly back at the two, struggling to hide his confusion as he went to sit next to his mom.
"Hi, sweetie." She lifted her hand to Jungkook's hair, patting at it. "You two look so handsome today. Look at you."
Jungkook knows his own mother.
She's usually sweet, but the extra nice tone of her voice sets Jungkook off. Something must be wrong. She never gets so touchy and soothing unless there is.
"What is this meeting about?" he asked.
"Well," Jungkook's dad, Sanghun spoke up. "Jungkook, you told me 'bigger is better' the other day, right?"
Jungkook nodded.
Sanghun turned his gaze over to Seokjin. "You're a nice young man." Seokjin nodded at that. "You like great projects, as I've seen. How would you feel about doing another, even bigger, better project?"
Though Seokjin hummed, Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows in confusion yet again. He leaned forward, catching sight of his dad's eyes.
"I think we should just say it," Doyun spoke up for the first time.
Sanghun raised his eyebrows. "A bit forward with it, huh?"
The other man nodded. "Yes. Son," he leaned forward, eyes locking with Seokjin's, then glanced over at Jungkook, "we want to collaborate the brands for a project."
Jungkook's skin tingled at the thought of that. Collaboration with them? Seriously? Why would they do that?
He could see the blank expression on Seokjin's face as well. Neither of them seemed fond of the idea.
It's a bad idea.
Seokjin hummed, not sounding too eager. "Um. I'm not sure about—"
"And we want you two to consider something else as well," Seokjin's mother spoke up, cutting him off.
Silence filled the room. Jungkook doesn't like silence. Not at all.
"What else?" Seokjin asked.
Eunji smiled, a bit forced, but a smile nonetheless. "We want you and Jungkook here to consider an arranged marriage. It'll be big, the news. It'll gain attention for sure."
Marriage..? So suddenly?
Jungkook frowned. "Marriage?" he questioned, eyes on his mother, who only smiled, still too sweet. "With who?"
As if Jungkook was a comedian, all of the parents laughed at him.
The tension felt a bit lifted, but even Seokjin was watching with concern-filled eyes as they laughed. Neither of them understood.
"W-What is it?" Jungkook pouted, still lost. He hates the feeling.
"You silly," his mother wrapped her arm around him, "you'd marry each other, of course."
Jungkook's heart dropped in his chest.
What?
Marry each other? How could they even ask such a thing like that? How could they even think for a second that he'd agree to do that?
"Excuse me?" Seokjin's voice rang in his ears, but Jungkook didn't even dare to look up at him, too busy being overcome with shock.
"Son," Doyun called out, voice stern. Harsh, almost. "You two will marry sooner or later. It goes like that anyway. Marrying each other wouldn't be so bad, right? What's the problem with that, Seokjin?"
Only the fact that they can't last two seconds without wanting to strangle each other. What kind of question even is that? Are they insane?
"I'm not marrying him," Seokjin told his dad, his own voice stern.
Jungkook clenched his fists in his lap. "And I'm not marrying him, no offense to you guys."
Seokjin turned to him. "No, I'm not marrying you."
"I'm not marrying you," Jungkook repeated. "There's no way. The companies can collaborate, sure, but I can't marry him. He's too- too—"
"My son is too what?" Doyun asked, arms crossing over his chest.
Jungkook sank back into his seat, a bit nervous at the older man's harsh gaze. He's a scary man.
"Honey," Jiyoon cut off the conversation. She placed her familiar hand on Jungkook's cheek, their eyes meeting. "Don't you want to be happy? It would make us happy, for sure, right Sanghun?"
She turned to Jungkook's father, who only nodded. "See? Why don't you two just think about it first? Don't go jumping to answer so quickly. We'll give it a week, yeah?"
Jungkook frowned, peeling her hands from his face.
The main reason why Jungkook took business classes was to please his parents. The reason he's such a good CEO is to please his parents. The reason he was born was to please his parents.
The reason that Jungkook nods his head in agreement is to please his parents.
"I'll think about it," he muttered, eyes burning into the table. "I'll think about it if he wants to."
Be it a mistake or not, Jungkook just wanted to satisfy them. He blames himself for being a people pleaser.
But the fact that he agreed to think about marrying Kim Seokjin just for the sake of their happiness has got to have some working on.
He can't please his parents forever.
Out of the corner of his vision, he could see Seokjin shrug. "Can't be too sure," he sighed, "but I'll think about it, too, then."
Again, Jungkook's heart dropped.
If Seokjin had said no, they could've just left it there, but the damn fool was telling them that he'd think about it.
That's way too close to a "yes" than Jungkook had ever wanted. Way too close to deciding to marry each other. Way too close for comfort.
Hopefully, most likely, Seokjin will tell them no. Or maybe Jungkook can build up enough courage to tell his parents no for once. Yeah. Maybe.
Or maybe they'll just see what is said by the end of this week.
Either way, Jungkook's mind is already clouded with thoughts. Clouded with the words "yes" and "no".
Will Seokjin say yes or no..?
