IX: The nights that never die

"Where are we going?" Sirius laughed for no reason.

The mystery girl laughed hysterically, pulling Sirius by the hand outside of the Great Hall towards the black lake. Her mask was slightly askew but that didn't make much of a difference. Sirius still had no idea who she was. Even if he wasn't drunk off his mind, he still wouldn't know who it was.

"Not telling," She giggled childishly.

"Please," Sirius said with puppy-dog eyed.

"You're adorable, did you know that?" She said seriously.

"And you're beautiful, did you know that?"

"Beautiful is my middle name," She smirked.

Sirius laughed now and, losing his bearings, he tripped over his own feet and landed on the grassy hill of the grounds of Hogwarts. He fell over and a moment of silence followed until he started laughing hysterically. The girl tucked her hair behind her ears and fell onto the floor next to Sirius.

"So...are you going to tell me who you are?" Sirius asked.

"Does a name matter? It's a label in society to recognise you by but what if I don't

want to be recognised in society and stay anonymous instead?" She said, gazing at the stars wistfully.

"I know, right? It's like...it doesn't mean much! Loads of people have the same name as you so what's the point, can't people just say 'oi, you!'" Sirius laughed.

The girl laughed and her eyes twinkled with mischief for a minute. She took her shoes off, put her hands by her side and started rolling down the hill. Sirius sniggered but considered the idea for a minute.

"Oi, you! Are you coming?" She laughed.

Sirius shrugged and rolled down the hill with his hands by his side. They both ended up landing in a pile at the bottom of the hill and their outfits covered in grass. She sat up and started shivering slightly. Sirius frowned and took of his jacket.

"Here, it's freezing. After all it is October." Sirius smiled and draped the blazer over her shoulders.

She looked at him and layed a hand on his cheek. He smiled at her and he looked over at the black lake. He took her hand and dragged her over.

"Oh Merlin, it's freezing! What are you planning to do?!" She laughed.

"I'm not going to dive face first into the black lake with no clothes on! I was actually planning just to dangle my feet at the edge of the lake." He explained, sitting down at the edge.

She nodded and sat next to him, resting her head on his shoulder.

"You know I was meant to come to this party with this guy called Paris Lockhart, my family want me to marry him but I don't want to." She sighed.

"Marry? Aren't you a bit young?" Sirius said, taking off his socks and shoes.

"Well, I thought so too but they told me that since I was a sixth year I was old enough to be in an arranged marriage. I don't think I'm getting married until I've finished my seven years at Hogwarts though unless I meet the one and decide to dump everything!" She made dramatic hand movements.

Sirius had dropped his smile and was now looking directly at her. He smiled at her int the corner of his mouth and tucked her hair behind her ear.

"You know, I've never met anyone as silly, kind and adventurous. You like to live on the edge I guess?" She smiled lovingly.

"Always," Sirius said.

He then leaned in and kissed her. Her eyes widened as she wasn't expecting that and she knew she had a pre-arranged marriage but tonight didn't matter.

You only live once.

She kissed him back and smiled at him. He smiled back and she pulled away. She then took his hand in his and they gazed into the black lake. He pointed at something.

"I bet that's John," Sirius smirked.

"I'm sorry, John?" She said, tilting her head to the side.

"Oh, I have a group of mates and we nicknamed him John. It was one of my friends choice because we had annoyed him all the way through first year," Sirius said.

She nodded and swirled her feet around the murky water as Sirius rolled his trousers up so he could also put his feet in the lake.

"Tell me something meaningless about yourself." She said randomly.

"Let me think...I don't own a matching pair of socks because when they get mixed up with my roommates clothes. Some of them have a very bad fashion sense y'know! And you fair maiden?"

She giggled. "Hmm...my favourite colour is black funnily enough because I think black suits me."

"Give me one of your initials. It can be your surname, a middle name or first name." Sirius said, picking up a twig.

"Okay, 'W'."

He nodded and engraved the tree with the sharpened twig. He wrote a small 'B' next to her initial and a plus sign between the two. He sat back down and admired his handiwork.

"Can I something crazy?" He asked.

"Go on Bill," She smirked.

"I love you, Wanda," He smirked back.

"Can I something even crazier? I love you too." She said and practically dived on top of him, pulling him into a kiss.

The night air was still and there was the distant sounds of the crickets chirruping away. She grabbed him by the tie so he couldn't get away from her.

"Wait, just to make sure your name isn't Bill, is it?" She said.

"Of course it isn't!" Sirius laughed and kissed her again.

The distant sound of music floated through the opened doors of the Great Hall as someone ran out into the grounds. The sky was now pitch black and the only places that provided light were the small cabin at the edge of the woods and the Great Hall.

The girl took off her mask flung it to the side along with Sirius. She started tugging at Sirius' tie.

"Sirius! Sirius Black!" James shouted out.

Sirius spun around and the mystery girl looked at him, horrified but was smiling for some reason. He sat up and adjusted his tie.

He looked back at her and pulled her into one last kiss.

"Never forget me. Close together or far apart, you'll always have a place in my heart, mystery girl," He said and dashed away.
