Please introduce yourself.
Hello! I'm Dee, a writer, graphics designer, and programmer! If I'm not burying my face into a book (whether it be a physical one or through my phone screen), you can find me lurking on Discord or playing video games.
When did you join Wattpad and why?
I first joined Wattpad back in 2016/ 2017 when my friend recommended I downloaded the app to post my writing on. On my old account, I had a pretty popular book and a decent amount of followers but I fell out of love with writing. Then, I got my inspiration back and decided to start fresh with a new account -DeeIsDead-!
What inspired you to start writing?
I've been reading ever since I was young. Even when I couldn't read myself, I was having stories read to me. I've always loved the fact that you can create your own world for another person to love, so I decided to start making them too.
Tell me about your story that won in the Rose Gold Awards.
The Traitor Queen is a YA fantasy novel that features Sabre, a blacksmith who was sold to the Kingdom of Racaea, and Kayne, the Fae Prince of Racaea. The two have been friends since childhood but when a neighbouring kingdom threatens war, which happens to be Sabre's homeland, things get a little tricky. Kayne asks Sabre to pretend to be his wife to form an alliance between the two kingdoms, but not everything is as it seems.
How did you come up with the story idea?
I honestly can't remember. I knew I wanted to write about a girl who was a blacksmith who had a friend who was a Fae Prince, the rest just appeared magically as I typed XD.
How long have you been writing it?
I started writing it in February 2022 and finished it in November, so that's about 9 months! The sequel is still ongoing, though, so I've been in that world for over a year now.
Who is your favorite character in your story and why?
Either Sabre or Trik! I always look forward to writing scenes with these characters because I love their personalities.
What is your favorite chapter/scene and why?
My favourite has to be chapter 2. Those initial moments of me first exploring the world will always have a special place in my heart. And who doesn't love a scene in a tavern?
What do you love about your story? What makes it unique and interesting?
I'm not sure about the unique and interesting part, but it has a special place in my heart because it was the story that dragged me out of my 3 year writing hiatus/slump. I will forever be grateful for it bringing me back to Wattpad.
What do you plan to do with your story in the future? Will you try to get it published or just keep it on Wattpad?
The Traitor Queen and its sequel will probably stay on Wattpad. It's not my best work and needs a ton of editing, so until I can find the motivation to do that it will stay here :p
Have you made any other accomplishments with your story? If so, what are they?
The Traitor Queen was featured on the YAFantasy profile under the high fantasy reading list back in March! It's also placed pretty high in some other awards.
Are you writing or planning to write any other stories? If so, tell me a bit about those.
I have two other stories on my profile! The first is Morana The Cursed which follows a necromancer with purple hair as she struggles with her past. The other is Wings of Deceit (and its sequel) where a Dragon-born soldier falls from the sky and our main character, Zofia, heals him. They then work together to try and stop the war brewing between their two races.
