Chapter 2
Precious was running. Her father was chasing her, his talons outstretched. Scythe was panting, closer and closer. Every dragon she ever stole from was here too, trying to kill her. Even the lesser beings, like two legged creatures and rats wanted her head. She screamed in fear, for she saw a huge black dragon cutting off her escape, allowing just enough time for the rest of the horde to catch up. She remembered the stories Scythe told her, of the big black dragon killing her would-be Uncle Blunt. To her, the dragon was about to finish what it started. Suddenly, everything lunged for her throat.
Precious gasped and woke up. She looked at the sun rising in the horizon. About 7 or 8 in the morning. So real, she thought. She shook off the countless leaves, twigs, and slugs off her scales. She spent the night in a leaf pile. She yawned, when suddenly a dragon was pinning her to the ground.
She was still unsettled by her dream, so she started to scream. The other dragon put his tail over her mouth and put a single clawed finger to his.
Oh. Quiet. Right. Precious thought quickly, stopping. The mysterious dragon covered her in all the previous items she just shook off. He then covered himself in leaves, twigs, and other forest things. She looked out of her covering, and nearly gasped. She saw a huge dragon flying through the forest, mouth open and gaping, like a basking shark. The dragon passed by, not noticing the eyes peering out of two leaf piles.
When the dragon left, the two came out and shook themselves.
"What. Was. That?" Precious sputtered, spitting out leaves and slugs in between words.
"That," he explained, "that was a Giant Serpent Eater."
Precious wasn't really listening, even though she herself asked. She was getting a good look at him. He was a shiny emerald-green with hazel eyes, light green wings, and a strong, stout tail. His claws were a shiny light brown. She kept staring.
"Hello? Hey! You there?" He said, waving his hands in front of her face.
"Wait, what? Oh yeah! Hi! Nice wings," Precious blurted.
"O-kay. I'm Sycamore. What's your name?" he introduced, not giving much thought to Precious's blurting.
"I'm-I'm Precious." She stuttered.
"Nice name. What brings you here?" he asked, throwing an acorn into the hole of a tree, disturbing the now angry squirrel inside.
"I dunno. Just came where the wind blew me." Precious replied.
"C'mon. Lemme show you where I live!" Sycamore beckoned. They flew through the forest. Sycamore was expertly dodging the trees and foliage. They landed in a clearing, near what looked like a giant tree with windows and a door.
"You need forest-flying practice. Why don't you go back and hit the branches you missed?" Sycamore laughed. Precious smiled, and got some vines untangled from her red wings.
"Well? Go on. Knock." Sycamore coaxed, "They'll trust you better if you are polite. My sisters and brother live with me."
Precious walked up to the door and knocked. A dragon answered. She looked like Sycamore, just smaller with different shades of green.
"Hello? Oh, Sycamore! Hey, do you finally have a girlfriend? She looks nice enough." She teased.
"Woah! Woah woah woah woah woah." Sycamore said, "Met her in the woods. Serpent Eater. Let me introduce! Acorn, Precious. Precious, Acorn." He was looking awkward. "Let's go meet the others. My other sister is Mahogany. My brother is Thorn. Let's GO!" Sycamore flapped his wings, sped into the house. Precious then went in herself, into the wonderful home of Sycamore.
