Chapter Six
Ira's breath caught in her throat. Emilia was alive? "Are you sure?" She asked Steve. He nodded, and handed her a picture.
"There was a security camera that caught her going into an abandoned warehouse." Ira looked at the picture. It was definitely Emilia. But she had changed. Her eyes were colder, and she eyed a pedestrian with distrust. Her hair was now shorter, cropped to her shoulders.
"We think," Steve continued, "That that's where she's hiding out. We're gonna move on it tomorrow. So get ready. 'Cause we've got a hell of a fight coming."
They left the room, and Ira walked to her bedroom. She collapsed into the bed as Pietro walked in. He sat on the edge of the bed next to Ira, who was laying down. "What's wrong, dragoste?"
She turned to face him. "Did you see Emilia? She looked so lonely, so angry. I can't help but feel like we did that to her."
He shook his head sadly. "Emilia was on her path of vengeance long before we met her. There was nothing we could do. She was going to help Ultron end the world, so she had to be stopped."
"I guess you're right."
"Of course I'm right," He joked. "Now you should get some sleep. We have an early day tomorrow." Pietro left, and Ira changed into a sweatshirt and comfy pants. She curled up in her head, thoughts of tomorrow's mission racing through her head.

Ira grabbed her jacket from the closet and slipped it on. She ran a brush through her hair, and walked out of the room, and to the kitchen. She made herself a bowl of cereal, and sat on the couch. Clint sat down next to her. "Are you ready for this?" He asked.
She nodded. "I guess I knew I had to face her eventually. I guess today's the day."
"When the time comes, you'll be ready to face her," Clint assured her. "It'll be okay."
Ira finished her cereal, as everyone else trickled into the lounge. Once everyone was ready, they all headed to the Quinjet. By now, Ira was used to it. She sat next to Pietro and Wanda, and slipped her communication device into her ear.
"Alright, you all know the plan." Steve told them. "Clint, you'll take a scan of the building. Then Ira, Natasha, Pietro, Wanda and I will break in and see if we can find Emilia. Sam, Vision, and Rhodey will sweep for stragglers, and make sure that no one leaves. Clint, and Tony, help guard the perimeter. Once it's clear, we'll take in Emilia, and come back. Understand?" He asked. Seeing no questioning looks, he sat down.
Clint sat in the pilot's seat, and they took off. "Are you guys ready to see her?" Ira asked Wanda and Pietro.
"It seems like so long ago since everything happened." Wanda mused. "I guess it gets better over time."
Pietro nodded his agreement. "I've hardly thought about her since Sokovia."
"Maybe that's a bad thing." Ira suggested. "Maybe we should have tried to find her."
"Well, I guess there's nothing we can do now," Wanda stated. "We might as well accept it."
They sat through the rest of the flight in an anxious silence. They landed a mile away from the warehouse, and walked to their positions. Clint fired an arrow at the building, and it stuck to the wall. A red light appeared, and Clint pulled out a transmitter that gave him a thermal scan of the building. "There's only person. At least, one conscious one. The rest of the people seem to be asleep."
"Alright." Steve said. "Move in." Ira, Pietro, and Wanda moved to the back entrance, while Steve and Natasha used the side. Ira used her powers to break the lock, and the door clicked open quietly. They crept in.
The warehouse was a large open building, with crates stack haphazardly around the edges. The Enhanced crept behind one of these, and looked for Emilia. Ira gasped as she noticed what was in the center of the room. Tables were lined up in rows, and on each of the tables was an unconscious person. Wanda closed her eyes, and felt for Emilia. "She's in that closet over there," Wanda said, and pointed to a small door on the other side of the building.
Ira watched as Steve and Natasha entered through the side door. She pointed to the closet door, and Natasha nodded. "Ira and Wanda, check on the unconscious people on the tables. They could be the buyers." Ira and Wanda crept to the center of the room, while Natasha and Steve stood by the edge of the door, shield and gun ready. Pietro sped over to them.
Ira looked at the first table she came to. A woman lay docile on the table, appearing to be peacefully sleeping. Something that looked like an IV was hooked up to her arm, but instead of medication, a green liquid flowed through the tube into the bag. "Abigail Ivanov, ability to control plants..." Ira murmured as she read off the identification paper by the woman's table. Ira's eyes widened as she realized what the liquid was. It was her powers. Emilia had indeed learned how to steal an Enhanced's powers.
Ira walked to the next table. "Oh my go.." She trailed off as she stared at the unconscious form of a little girl, who had to be no older than ten. Her hair was braided into pigtails, and she wore a flowery dress. Fiery orange liquid flowed through her IV. "Elizabeth Satton, pyro-kinesis." She turned to Wanda, horrified.
Wanda looked just as shocked, then her eyes widened. She turned just in time to see Steve, Natasha, and Pietro drop to the floor as gray gas flowed from under the door. Emilia strode out, covering her nose with her hand. "Guys, we have a problem," Ira said into the comms.
"Well so do we!" Sam shouted back. "It was a setup!" Ira heard gunshots in the background. "We're doing all that we can to fight them off. I'll call for backup, but you'll have to hold out until then."
"It's just us," Ira told Wanda. She nodded grimly.
"Then let's do this," Wanda said. Together they walked towards Emilia, who had put electric shockers on the others to keep them unconscious. "Emilia," Wanda called.
Emilia turned toward them and smirked. "Well, hello. Come to let me steal your powers?" She asked.
Ira let energy gather in her hands, and Wanda did the same. "Emilia, this isn't right. These people didn't put ask to be put through this," Ira pleaded.
"Well, I didn't ask to be left for dead in a Sokovia. I didn't ask for my parents to be killed. Life doesn't give you what you want. You have to learn to survive and conquer." Emilia countered.
"What are you doing with the Enhanced?" Wanda asked her.
Emilia's smile grew. "Oh, nothing much. I'll just use them to turn myself into the most powerful a person ever and take over the Earth."
"You don't want to do this." Wanda said.
"Oh, but I'm quite sure I do." Emilia said. She blasted fire from her hands. It lit up the warehouse, setting the crates on fire and coming dangerously close to hitting Ira and Wanda. Elizabeth. The word echoed through Ira's head. Emilia had infused herself with the little girl's powers. And now she was trying to kill them.
Ira blasted her, but she dodged. Wanda did the same, and managed to hit her shoulder. We have to do this together. Wanda's voice sounded through Ira's head. She nodded, and formed a sphere of energy in her hands, while Wanda blasted herself towards the ceiling. Ira hurled the sphere at Emilia, while Wanda pelted her with energy from above.
It was all Emilia could do to shield herself as they unleashed a torrent of energy upon her. Emilia formed a shield with the fire, and, knowing she couldn't beat them, ran into the closet. Ira and Wanda sprinted towards the closet as Emilia slammed the door. Ira blasted it to pieces, and they peered into the closet. There was no one there.
Ira noticed an air current blow through a crack in the closet wall, and she destroyed the flooring around it. It revealed a metal tunnel constructed beneath the warehouse. "Come on," Ira said to Wanda as she slipped into the tunnel. It was a twisting passage way that led them away from the warehouse. Ira warily pooled energy into her fingers, to be ready at a moment's notice.
They soon entered into a small circular room, filled with canisters full of the same liquid as the ones flowing into the IVs. Labeled on each canister was the name of the Enhanced it was taken from. Emilia was no where to be seen, but another door was open, and it led outside.
They ran through the door to see Emilia sprinting through the trees. She had abandoned everything in the hopes of escaping, but it was not to be. Ira fired at her back, and she collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Wanda levitated her body off the ground, and they took her back towards the warehouse. They found Steve, Natasha, and
Pietro sitting groggily up, and Wanda set Emilia down near them.
"What happened?" Natasha asked.
"Emilia gassed you," Wanda told them. "We followed her through a secret passage in the closet. That's where she's storing the rest of the Enhanced's powers."
Steve nodded. "I'll send for another jet to get these people to safety. They cleared outside, and all the criminals are captured. We should figure out a way to restore the Enhanced's powers to them in the meantime."
Wanda showed Steve where the secret room was, and they came back with all of the vials from the Enhanced. Ira walked over to Elizabeth, and carefully studied the table. She pried up a slab of metal to reveal circuits and wires. "Natasha," she called. "How do we reverse the flow?"
Natasha came over, and removed a few wires, plugging them into different spots. "That should do it," she said, and stood back. The orange liquid slowly filtered back into the girl, and Ira poured the rest of the canisters into the IV. When the liquid was gone, she gently pulled the tube out, and flicked her hand towards the hole. It quickly healed as blue sparks flew off her fingers.
"What's keeping them unconscious?" Pietro asked.
"I think," Steve said, rummaging around under the table,"That this is." He pulled out a tube connected to a canister of sedative. "It's filtering into the table. If you put someone on it, it'll make them sleep." He was about to disconnect the tube, but Ira put up a hand to stop him.
"Wait," She said. "Wouldn't it be easier if we kept them unconscious? We could deliver them back to their homes, and they wouldn't know what had happened."
"I think she's right," Natasha agreed. Just then, the sound of metal and the whoosh of wind filled the clearing.
"Just on time," Steve said. "Let's load these people up," He said into comms. Sam, Tony, Rhodey, Vision came, and together the Avengers started carrying the surprisingly lightweight tables into the second Quinjet. Soon, everyone was cleared out, and Wanda floated Emilia to the second jet, along with the criminals they had captured.
The team went back to the first Quinjet, and they took off.
"It seems crazy that it's over," Wanda said.
"I think Emilia really turned," Ira said. "Did you see that girl? She couldn't have been older than ten!"
"It's crazy that she would do something like that." Pietro agreed.
"Well, it's over and done with now," Ira stated. "And I'm glad."
