Chapter Sixteen

Ira awoke to a loud rustling, and blearily sat up in bed. She looked over at the clock, seeing that it was three-thirty in the morning. She glanced over next to her to find that Pietro wasn't there, and a sense of deja vu crept into her mind, until she saw him at the foot of the bed, changed into his uniform.

"Where are you going?" She asked, more alert.

"There's another HYDRA base on the file," he told her. "It's in New Jersey. Sam, Clint, Tony, Steve and I are going to attack it. We'll get in, and get as much information as we can. It's about the same as the last mission." He walked over to the side of the bed, and pressed a quick kiss to her forehead. "I have to go," he said, before leaving the room.

Ira laid back down, and closed her eyes to go to sleep. She slowly drifted off, but her slumber was plagued by nightmares of the mission going horribly wrong.

Images of Sam and Tony falling from the sky, their bodies landing lifeless on the ground. Steve, his shield laying in shards on the ground, his hand still gripping it tightly. And Pietro, falling deathly still on the ground, blood soaking the dirt next to him. An evil laugh echoed through the dream, and Ira shot up, panting heavily, with sweat covering her face and neck.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, but all she could see was the image of Pietro laying lifeless on the ground. She opened her eyes, and pulled back the covers. She stepped out of bed, and walked across the hall to Wanda's room. She knocked lightly on the door, and heard a muffled 'Come in'.

Ira opened the door, and found Wanda sitting on her bed, watching TV. She walked in, and sat on the edge of the bed. Wanda turned to face her, and Ira could tell that something was wrong.

She could make out faint dark circles under Wanda's eyes, indicating that she hadn't gotten much sleep. Her face was worried, and she was paper than normal. "Are you okay?" Ira asked her.

Wanda nodded, and looked down, not meeting her eyes. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, but Ira could tell that she was lying.

"Wanda," She said. "I can tell you're not alright. What's wrong? You can tell me." Wanda looked up, and Ira could see tears forming in her eyes.

"Something isn't right," she whispered. "I can feel it. I think something is going to go wrong with the mission."

Ira's eyes widened, and she thought of her dream. But then she tilted her head, confused. "What do you mean, you can feel it?"

Wanda paused, trying to find the words to explain. "Pietro and I have this kind of connection. I can tell when he's in danger or pain. I could feel it when he died, and when he came back to life. And there's a foreboding feeling inside of me. I think something is going to go wrong, if it hasn't already."

Ira struggled inside. She knew that telling Wanda about her dream would worry her even more, but she couldn't hold it inside of her anymore. "I had a dream," she confessed. "Something happened on the mission. And," she paused, "And everyone died."

Wanda's eyes widened. "But it's okay," Ira quickly assured her. "It's just a dream, built on the anxieties of everything that's been happening. And I'm sure that's what is happening to you. It's not like either of us are clairvoyant. It's just nerves and stress." She placed her hand on Wanda's arm. "You're worried because you care about Pietro. I'm worried too, but he's with Steve, Clint, and Tony. They're all seasoned Avengers. They'll make sure that nothing happens to him."

Wanda nodded, and wiped her eyes. "Thanks," she said, she looked around. "I should probably try to go to sleep," she said, and Ira nodded. She stood up, and while Wanda was turned, sent a small wave of soothing midnight energy towards her friend. She absorbed it, and let out a yawn.

Ira smiled, glad that she was able to help her sleep, and left the room. Ira, however, was not going to be able to sleep a wink, so she walked out to the balcony. It overlooked the forests surrounding the compound, and Ira liked to come here when she needed some peace of mind. It was quiet, peaceful, and there was never anyone else there.

She sat on a lounge chair, and stared over the railing. The forest looked still and peaceful, but when she listened closely, she could hear birds cooing and crickets chirping.

Ira glanced up at the starry night sky, thoughts racing through her head. She worried about what Wanda had said, and she was having trouble taking her own advice.  She tried to remind herself that Pietro was strong and smart, and he could take care of himself. And that he was with the others, and they would never let anything happen to him.

As she was sitting, she heard the whirring of the Quinjet's engines. She looked up, and saw the Quinjet landing on the runway. She smiled, and ran back inside, and to Wanda's room. She knocked on the door, and she heard Wanda stirring inside. She opened the door slightly. "They're back," she said. Wanda walked to the door, and together they went to the lawn.

When the Quinjet doors opened, Tony, Steve, Clint, Sam, and Pietro walked out unscathed, except for a few minor cuts and scratches. Wanda rushed over to her brother, and threw her arms around him. Ira smiled, and waited for Pietro to walk towards her before giving him a kiss.

Pietro smiled. "Why are you so happy to see me?" Wanda started explaining, while Ira just smiled, happy that he was safe.

A/N:

Another short chapter. Sorry.

But anyways, I want to thank you guys for 150 reads. That's not really a lot, but it means a lot to me. So Thanks :)

Also, I want to reiterate that Ira is not clairvoyant, just in case. However, in the original idea, she was going to be able to see into the future, before I thought it made her too overpowered.

I love you three thousand,
