Nineteen-year-old Sophia Lopez is offered a job at the De La Vega Bodega. Recommended by her good friend, Sonny De La Vega, she accepts the opportunity. Although her boss was someone she wasn't very fond of in the past, she was in need of money.

 Sophia knew that the job was a temporary position, mainly because she was being hunted down by a mob of dangerous people. The last thing she wanted was to put Sonny at risk of harm. 

But when Usnavi De La Vega begins to fall in love with the secret runaway, her skills of lying, fighting, and protecting are put to the test.
