Solution...?

Jon's POV -

I listened to Dawn's movements as he wrapped up Cory's ankle. I was working on a generator on a generator but my hands were shaking badly. I'm surprised I haven't messed up yet. Maybe I'm just motivated to not mess this up.

"Ok." Dawn said

I stopped working on turned to him, "How is he?" I asked looking at him

"He's lost a lot of blood, and it's hard to tell if he will live." He said with a calming tone

Cory's was lying lifeless on the ground. He looked slightly pale and he had small amounts of blood on his hoodie. His glasses had a small crack but he should still be able to see out of them.

Dawn moved to the side of the generator, beginning to work on it.

I started to work again. Staring at my hands, trying to keep them steady but I couldn't stop them from shaking.

I pulled away and grabbed one of my wrists. I shivered.

Dawn glanced my way. He stopped working and put his hand on my shoulder. I looked at him with fearful eyes, "I'm fine." I said

"J-just need to calm down."

He nodded and started working again

><oo~oo><

We were almost done with this generator. Maybe about two or three minutes but I stopped when I heard something. It sounded like a person but will all the sounds going on it was hard to tell.

I heard it again. A pained groan.

I stopped and looked at Cory. He was slowly sitting up but he leaned to the side and started coughing. My eyes widened and I rushed to his side.

"Cory!" I said placing my hand on his back

He moved so he was laying on his stomach, his arms were supporting him while he kept his head low.

I heard the generator still going, Dawn was still working on it I'm guessing.

Cory continued his coughing fit while I kept a tight grip on his shoulders, "You're going to be fine Cory." I said

I heard the generator give off a loud sound, indicating that it was finished.

Cory's cough began to die down a tad but he couldn't talk proper sentences without coughing.

I began to shake slightly.

Dawn came over and knelt beside Cory. He placed one hand on the back of his neck and the other on the front, it looks like he was trying to choke him.

I started to panic. I grabbed Dawn wrist, about to pull him away but Cory's coughing began to die down.

I let go of Dawn's wrists and move in front of Cory.

"Cory!"

Cory's POV -

I could think straight, I couldn't feel anything. There was a ringing in my ears and I have no idea where I am.

What's going on? Am I still on the ground? My eyes were shut tight and I couldn't open them. I tried to hold my breath to stop the pain in my chest but that just made it worse.

"Cory!" I heard faintly

I slowly opened my eyes as the pain in my chest started to go and I was becoming aware. I felt hands on my neck, I began to worry. I reached up and prayed them off my neck and looked up.

Jon?

"Cory!" He yelled, fear dominating his features

I felt myself cough but they were quiet, "J-Jon?" I rasped out

"Oh thank god!" He said pulling me into a hug, "We thought you were dead."

"We?" I asked

He pulled away and looked me in the eyes. I saw Dawn move over behind Jon, kneeling down.

"W-what happened?" I asked looking at the ground to see blood

"You stepped in a trap and passed out." Dawn said blankly

"How did I get here." I asked attempting to stand

The rocks rolled under my shoes, causing me to fall under my own weight. Jon caught me and helped me stand, "We heard you scream, then we ran into Uni and he pointed us towards you." Jon said lifting me to my feet.

"Uni?" I asked

"We were confused to, I'm guessing he heard you scream and he came to investigate." Dawn said

Jon looked at Dawn quickly before looking back at me with worry in his eyes, "What?" I asked standing straight

He bit his lip, "We just finished the final generator." Dawn said, "All we need to do if open the gate, then go into the next section." he said

My eyes widened and I looked down, "I'm sorry Cory, but we have to go." Dawn said

I stayed quiet. I can't leave yet. I need to help Uni, if I even can. I looked up at them.

I simply nodded and turned around, walking away, hoping to find a gate, there's no point in arguing with them...

><oo~oo><

I heard the buzzer of the gate ring through the air. Jon was holding the lever down while Dawn ran his hand along the rusted metal of the gate.

Once it began to open he leaned his head forward to see what the door from the other side looked like. I'm guessing nothing was different since he gave no reaction. Then again, Dawn doesn't really react to anything.

"You ready." Jon asked

"No." I respond bowing my head

He sighed, "I'm sorry Cory, but we can't do anything about it." he said

I stayed quiet

"Can I at least say goodbye?" I asked looking up

Dawn was standing in front of a now completely open gate. He looked at Jon and nodded.

I looked at Jon, "Well..." He hesitated, "I don't see the danger."

I kept a blank face but my eyes lit up slightly.

I looked back, looking at the old building in the distance, "I'll be back soon." I said before leaving

><oo~oo><

The only light in this place was the bright moon, and a few randomly scattered fires. This place would have burned to the ground if it followed human logic. That would be weird though in an ironic way.

I wasn't sure if I was close or not. I kept my head down, staring at the ground as if I was avoiding eye contact in a school hallway, those were the boring days.

"Twists and turns"

I looked up, stopping dead in my tracks.

"Old scars, new burns."

I began to sweat, "Dawn? Jon? Is that you..." I said backing up

"Dark figures lurk, their minds subdued, but their pasts, speaks the truth."

"Who are you!" I yelled looking around the area

What's going on, who's talking to me?!

"If help is what you seek..."

"Help?" I whispered

"Look no further than below your feet."

"My feet?" I looked down

The only thing was dirt and grass. I looked around again.

"I-I don't know who you are." I stuttered, "But if you can help.... Then I'll listen."

There was a moment of silence

"To keep a killers mind at bay, you must look for another way."

"To keep a killers mind a bay?" I echoed to myself, "What?"

"Find the precious gem, that lies within the lions den."

"Lion's den?" I asked, "What do you mean?" I asked

Nothing...

I looked around. Were they trying to help me. Why are they talking now?

I brushed that thought away and continued walking to the warehouse, slowly...

><oo~oo><

I walked along the outer walls of the warehouse until I came across a broken window. I climbed over the ledge, I was in a different area of the building this time but I could see the stairs from where I was standing.

I started to jog, the heartbeat beating in my ears. But... I saw something I had never noticed before. More stairs, leading down...

I stopped and stared at them, only a few feet away from the stairs I was going to go up. I looked up the stairs but walked to the other set.

I looked down them. It looked dark down there but there was some light coming from the bottom, a basement perhaps. Why would there be a basement in here.

Curiosity took over my body and I slowly started to descend down the wooden steps. The atmosphere was completely different going down.

Up there, there was a slight feeling of hope. Like you had chances of survival as long as you're standing on the dry, bloody dirt. But down here, feels like there is no escape. Once your down here, you done for, no one can or will help you. Hopefully that's just a feeling.

I turned a corner only to find more stairs leading further down, how deep down the place go down?

Wait...

"If it's help you seek..." I said to myself, "Look no further than below your feet."

Is this what that voice meant by 'below your feet'? It must have.

With newfound determination I ran down the stairs as fast as I could without tripping or falling. There was no rail but that didn't matter to me.

Once I reached the bottom, I froze.

There was blood on the wood walls with an eerie silence fogging the air, but was caught my attention was four bloody meat hooks in the center of the room. They stood back to back, as if in a standoff with each other. Fighting for the attention of the killer so they could take the next victim that dared set foot in the room.

Against the wall to my right were two red lockers, to hide in I presume.

"In the treasure chest you will find, this item that was worth your time."

I jumped at the sound of the voice. I opened my mouth to speak, but closed it. I don't think this voice will give me a direct answer so I won't even try.

Treasure chest, like the chest I we can find all over this place? Is there one down here?!

I walked further into the room but kept my distance from the hooks. I looked to my left, nothing but a wall, I glanced to the right. There was another small area in the room, behind the wall the lockers were up against.

I kept my eyes on the hook as I walked to the unexplored part of the room. As if the hooks could jump out an attack me at any moment.

I turned my head and looked around the small area. It looked like an unfinished hallway but the yellowish brown chest is what caught my eye.

I walked over to it and knelt down. I brushed some dust and dirt off the top before opening it.

Dust flew out of the chest, I coughed again, waving my hand in front of my face. My throat started hurting again from the coughing but I ignored it and looked threw the chest.

I think I hit the jackpot here! There was a bunch of stuff in this chest, flashlight, medical kit, and a key. But nothing really eyes catching.

I sat back and looked at the open chest, thinking. The voice said something about gems right? I looked at all the items in the chest, there was no sign of any 'gems' as the voiced put them.

I looked around the inner walls of the chest, looking at the bottom, the broken, wooden bottom. Wait.

I grabbed the items and set them aside. I looked at the cracks in the rotted wood. I stood up, putting my hand on the wall, and with all my weight, stomped on the wooden floor. I heard a satisfying crack and did it again.

The second time was successful. I knelt down and prayed the wood away from the box and threw it to the side with the other items. It was too dark to see what was down there in this light. I grabbed the flashlight and shown it down the small pocket that held two, necklaces?

I reached down and took them. Raising them to eye level.

They each had an animal design to them. With a bright red gem embedded in shining material.

The first looked like a kind of dog. It's head was being viewed from the side with it's neck curved so it was looking down slightly. The red gem was round and was centered behind the dog's face and below it's jaw.

The second was a scorpion, it's tail wrapped around the gem while it's claws were at its sides, raised in a threatening manner.

They were both made of the same materials, silver. The chains were the same, small, but noticeably chains.

I turned them in my hands. Examining them closely. How are they not dirty? Why were they below the chest? What do they even do?

So many questions... So little answers...

I put them in my pocket. I shook my head lightly, remembering why I was here, Uni. I left the basement and walked up the wooden steps.

Once I was on the platform I saw Uni pacing. The heart beat was loud but not that fast.

"Uni." I said

He looked over at me with wide eyes. The gritted his teeth and back up, "What are you doing here!" He yelled

"I came to see you again. We were about to leave but I wanted to say goodbye." I respond

He visibly relaxed, "Well..." He started, "I'm not good at goodbyes." He laughed

"Neither am I." I laughed with him, "Oh but I want to ask something to."

He folded his arms, "Ok..."

"Do you know what these are." I pulled the necklaces out of my pocket

He looked at them with wide eyes, "I..." He cut himself off

He walked over. I held them out to him, he took the dog one and examined it. He held it up to the light coming thru the window, his eyes narrow.

"Where did you find these?" He asked

"In that basement of yours." I answer

He looked at me, "You went down there?" He asked surprised

"Well ya." I respond

"Why?"

"I..." I stopped, "I don't know."

I don't think I should say anything about this voice I've been hearing just yet.

Uni turned the gem in his hands but stopped. He stared at it for a moment before his eyes widened.

He stood there, unmoving for a long time. Like he was in a trance.

He looked up at me before holding it up and putting it around his neck.

He closed his eyes and let it dangle around his neck. He let out a deep sigh that he seemed to be begging to let loose.

"You... Ok?" I asked concerned

He opened his eyes, "Never better." He smiled

I looked at his eyes. Their once blood read color had changed into the bright red I'm more familiar with.

"Cory." He said

He looked like he was about to break into tears. The heart beat had stopped. And I was confused...

"It's gone." He said, his voice breaking

"What?" I said, "What's gone." I asked getting concerned

"The urge!" He yelled, "It's gone!" He shouted with pure joy

"What?!" I said shocked

He laughed and threw his arms up in the air, "Freedom!" He shouted

I smiled as well, "So, you don't want to kill me right now." I said sarcastically

"I never did to be honest." He responded

"That's a lie and we both know it."

"Ok." He rolled his eyes

I looked down at the other necklace in my hand, "So..." I started, "Do each of you have one?" I asked

"May I?" He asked holding out his hand

I shrugged and gave him the gem. He turned it in his hands like he did with the one currently hanging around his neck.

He narrowed his eyes before handing it back to me, "Might want to keep a hold of that." He said

"Right." I said taking it back

"I'm just curious if there are any more." He said folding his arms

"These were the only ones I found but who knows. Maybe there are more." I said

"That would be handy." He smiled, "But I think you should get going."

"Oh! Ya..." I said realizing I had been gone for a while now, "So is this goodbye or..."

"Let just call it a see you later." Uni said, "Now get out of here!" He said nudging my shoulder

"Ok ok I'm going." I laughed, "See you later."

Hopefully...

(I finished this, this morning them I attempted to play Terraria with my little brother... It didn't go so will, I got scared by a slime and I accidentally killed a penguin ;-;)
