Chapter Four: The Incident

The two had been camped out in Lexi's childhood home for two days.

The girl was combing through everything that she could trying to find a lead that might point them in the direction that her family had gone in but so far she had found nothing.

She was currently looking through things on her dad's desk thinking maybe he might have left her some kind of note in the hope that she would find it and find them. Lexi was hyper focused on her task that she didn't even notice the Original walk up behind her.

He laid a hand on her shoulder since she had been sitting there for an hour just reading through papers, but he hadn't realized how much she was focused. The light touch on her shoulder startled her making the brunette girl grab his arm almost instinctively in a tight grip, for a human anyway, Kol winced slightly as an uncomfortable feeling coursed through him. Then his eyes widened when he saw a red glow surrounding Lexi's hand on his wrist.

"Lex, it's just me," he assured.

She dropped his arm "Sorry, you startled me, I was hyper-focused on what I was doing and didn't hear you come in." Then she felt a rush of power flowing through her, and her eyes widened, at the new feeling "woah..."

Kol grinned at the little discovery that was just made, "Lex... do you know what you just did?"

She shook her head, "No... but I feel weirdly different... just slightly anyway."

Kol noticed the candle on the desk it was something the girls had pitched in to get their dad as a gag gift one year since he wasn't really one to like candles but since his girls got it for him he kept it on his desk but it's only been lit twice and Lexi was the one to light it both times.

Kol pushed it toward her. "Okay, so we are going to do a little experiment here..."

She gave him a weird look, "okay?"

"Good, now Lex, look at the candle." She did as he asked and looked at the candle, "Now focus on it, just the candle, nothing else, and say "Phasmatos incendia."

Lexi did what he said, focused on nothing but the candle, and repeated the words not expecting anything to happen, "Phasmatos incendia." she felt a swirl of warmth flood her senses and then the candle lit. Lexi looked at Kol wide-eyed, "What the hell just happened?"

Kol just smirked he now knew that he was right, "Well when I unintentionally startled you, you grabbed my wrist pretty tightly it was as if you hadn't even realized what you did and then I felt an uncomfortable feeling and looked at your hand and it was glowing red, so I had an inkling of what was going on but you lighting that candle like that proved it... you're a witch Lex, not a normal one either a Siphoner, you can siphon the magic out of other things that have it but can't generate it yourself." he offered her his hand, "Take my hand." Lexi grabbed his hand, "now tight grip on my hand and focus." she gripped his hand tighter and focused and the red glow enveloped her hand again.

Lexi dropped his hand in shock "Oh my god..." She was looking at Kol wide-eyed but he was just grinning at her like the best thing in the world just happened in his eyes. "You don't seem the least bit phased by this Kol."

"It's all right Lex... I am going to teach you everything that I know about magic..." he shrugged, "I'm extremely fascinated with any and all types of magic so nope not phased at all at you discovering you can do magic under the right circumstances."

"Fair enough... How do you know so much about magic? From what you've told me so far vampires can't do magic."

The two were now sitting on the couch in the living room, as he explained things to her a bit more, "that is true but I was a witch before I was a vampire which means that, I know quite a bit about magic because of that and when I was turned into a vampire I lost my ability to do magic so I set out to just study and learn about all types of magic even if I couldn't perform it anymore."

Lexi nodded at that, "so this means that this connection to the supernatural had to come from my mother, I've never met her, she dropped me off with my dad when I was a baby and never looked back."

"Yes, because magic has to be inherited."

"I know it wasn't my dad because he would have told us about it, dad never kept things from me or Sarah, he was always honest with us, if dad had magic we would've known."

Kol nodded at her "Okay, I may not be able to do magic but I can still teach you and I will, we can stay here for a bit longer than we originally planned so that I can help you train your magic."

Lex nodded, "Okay and that will also give me more time to search through everything because I know Dad would leave me something to point me in the right direction but he'd put it somewhere that wouldn't be easily found if someone looted the house before I found my way here."

Kol nodded again, "Okay, how about you finish up in the study and then we'll get some practice in before it gets dark?"

Lexi smiled at him, "All right, give me another half hour and I'll be done."

"Okay," then Kol left her to her own devices again. While Lexi made her way back into her dad's study.

True to her word 30 minutes later she walked out of her dad's study and she and Kol ended up in the backyard, he had set a few things up while she was still going through papers after he left her to finish up what she had been doing.

"All right Lex, for your first lesson, this is the easiest spell to learn." he once again offered her his hand since he knew the magic would have died out of her system by now. She siphoned more magic from him... Kol furrowed his brow slightly because the more she siphoned him the more he felt lighter, like she was siphoning something off him besides the magic from his vampirism but he wouldn't dwell on that right now. "Good, now hand out." he demonstrated the motion. "Motus."

Lexi nodded, and held her hand out copying the motion Kol had done, "Motus." she felt the same feeling from earlier as the objects in front of her blew back in the direction that she had motioned.

"That was good Lex, especially for the first try."

She grinned at him at that, and so for the little bit Lexi practiced that one spell, Kol wanted her to start small so as not to overwhelm herself, since all of this was new to her.

Lexi was still trying to wrap her head around this little development but would admit that she loved the feeling of magic flowing through her already and she had only experienced it a few times so far.

The two sat at the table that night eating dinner, Kol was just smirking at her, "So how do you feel Lex?"

She smiled "Honestly I feel good, like this is all new and everything but also feels like I've been doing it my whole life, what's bothering you?"

Kol was surprised that she had noticed since he tried not to dwell on it since his focus was teaching Lexi about magic. "I'm surprised you noticed because I was trying not to focus on that right then, but it was just a feeling that I got after the third time you siphoned from me... almost like you were siphoning something off other than just the little bit of magic to practice with."

Lexi bit her lip slightly, in thought "like some kind of spell or something?"

Kol shrugged "I honestly don't know Lex... but it's making me feel lighter like whatever is there is weighing me down but I didn't know it was there until you started siphoning magic from me."

"Well, I could siphon a little bit more just to test this if you want."

Kol thought about it for a moment before he nodded, "All right Lex after dinner we can do it."

So they finished eating dinner and cleaned the stuff up as well as they could and they were sitting on the floor in Lexi's room sitting cross-legged in front of each other Kol offered the brunette both of his hands which she took, interlocking their fingers as she held his hands Lexi closed her eyes and focused.

Kol felt the feeling again meaning that she was siphoning him, but it wasn't as uncomfortable now, he was still getting used to it but he started feeling lighter again just like earlier, but it wasn't making him weaker like it should be since she was siphoning the magic of his vampirism.

No, instead it was making him feel calmer than before, and then suddenly a warmth flooded his chest, something that he had never felt before.

Lexi's eyes snapped open as she felt it too but it was different for her it was like everything was making sense to her like she knew that she was meant to stumble upon Kol that day without even knowing it.

Lexi was still holding his hands but was not siphoning him now as they stared into each other's eyes, Kol breathed out "What?"

Locking eyes with Lexi after he felt that warmth everything made sense to him, the reason he felt so drawn to the feisty brunette now made sense but why and who had blocked that information from him since he had no clue that it was possible for him.

Sure he had read about it but never thought that he would experience this feeling for himself. "Was that it?" Lexi asked softly, she still didn't know exactly what just happened but her instincts were telling her that it was a good thing.

Kol shook his head, "No I can feel something weighing down but it's working, maybe just a little bit more and we can figure everything else out once it's all gone."

Lexi nodded and squeezed his hands which she was still holding, Kol smiled at her, and Lexi started to siphon him again.

It was probably another 10 minutes before Kol no longer felt that weight anymore, "That's good Lex, I feel so much lighter now, like that weight is completely gone I don't know what it means though but I feel better than I have in a very long time, I feel more like myself, from back when I was a witch."

Lexi's eyes then lit up in a possible realization... "Kol, what if someone blocked your magic after you became a vampire, like before you realized you still had it or anything and that spell was weighing you down mentally making you act out in a way I guess."

His eyes widened "Oh my god, Lex... you could be right but it's not supposed to be possible."

She gently released his hands and rose from the bedroom floor. Slowly, she walked over to the vanity where several unlit candles were placed, picked them up, and settled back on the floor. "We could always test it out," she suggested softly.

She sat the candles between them and Kol was skeptical about this but he did feel slightly different than before a little more powerful, so he would humor her suggestion but was not expecting anything to happen since all he had heard since his mother had told him he lost his magic after he turned, was that it was impossible to be a witch and a vampire.

Kol glanced at the candles and focused on them lighting just as he had done a thousand times as a child learning to use and control his magic.

***

OOP Kol possibly being able to get his magic back? There is a very high possibility of that XD, also what do you think that little moment between Lex and Kol meant? I of course know already even if it wasn't planned for this to go in the direction it did when I started this chapter XD lmao.

I hope you guys enjoy the chapter though, let me know what you think about it.
