First Child

Jia had been moving into the world of Stunt Coordinating, so she and Reuben had decided it might be a good time to maybe start a family.

They weren't exactly planning for anything, mostly just going with a 'if it happens, it happens' mentality.

A few months after they started but didn't start trying, Jia was feeling sick.

To be fair, there was a bug going around the movie she was working on. So she had just assumed she caught whatever it was and that it would go away in a few days.

It was when she was still throwing up a week later that she got suspicious.

Jia brought it up to Reuben that night. "I think I might be pregnant."

He almost dropped the mug he was holding. "You think? Do I need to run it and get some tests?"

She shook her head. "I'm grabbing some tomorrow morning. I don't have anything tomorrow."

Reuben looked at her. "Do you want me to call off? I don't know if I want you doing this by yourself. I want to be there if you need me, no matter the results."

Jia smiled gently at him, leaning up to press a soft kiss to his lips. "I love you for that, but it's okay. I promise I won't take the tests until you're home."

And she did.

Reuben pulled in as early as he possibly could. He didn't even change before looking at his wife.

She could only laugh, trying her best to keep her own nerves down.

But they went to the bathroom, Jia taking the tests and setting the timer for five minutes.

The two sat on their bed, wondering just how long five minutes could take.

But the timer finally went off, Jia standing nervously in front of the tests.

"I'm scared."

So Reuben came to stand behind her, taking her hand in his own. "Together?"

She nodded, and they both moved their hands towards the tests.

Flipping them over, the tears started flowing.

"We're pregnant!"

Cravings
Jia got so incredibly lucky that she had all the usual cravings.

She wanted pickles, salty food, and chocolate. And her staff knew it, as they had the set stocked up with anything she could possibly want.

Reuben got off pretty easy as well, not having to run out at all hours of the night for something.

They didn't stop the couple from asking Mickey or Benji to pick things up because they just didn't feel like it, and the two men were competing for godfather.

(They had yet to realize there was always going to be two godfathers.)

Last month
Jia's last month of pregnancy was interesting, to say the least. She had been officially moved into coordinating as soon as she notified her bosses that she was pregnant.

Sitting behind the cameras, Jia was watching as stunts were performed to perfection.

Her team was incredible, always able to roll with the punches. Her maternity leave happened to hit just as the movie shoot ended, so she was all set to have plenty of time off for her baby.

Delivery
Reuben had been able to get the week before Jia's due date added to his paternity leave.

Jia was happy he was home because she really couldn't do anything herself anymore.

She hadn't been able to see her feet in at least a month. It was hard to get off the couch, and she was uncomfortable.

She was so uncomfortable that she missed the start of her labor. It wasn't until her water broke that she realized she was actually in active labor.

When Reuben pulled them into the hospital parking lot, going about Mach 5, if you asked Jia, he helped her waddle into the front.

"My wife is in active labor!" He quite literally shouted, his own nerves fully appearing.

The nurses were shocked at just how dilated she was.

"How did you not feel this?"

Jia shrugged. "I'm a stuntwoman. Pain is literally part of my job. I'm used to it. Guess I just didn't realize how much it was truly hurting."

Well, because she was so far into labor, Jia only actually had to wait about three hours before giving birth to a healthy baby girl.

She was the perfect mix of her parents, with bright eyes and an adorable little nose.

That little girl quickly became a light for anyone who encountered her.

Second Child
Full discovery
So fun fact. This child was a complete surprise and perchance an accident.

You see, Jia had finally gotten through her first ever movie as the Head Stunt Coordinator, and her parents had taken their daughter for the night so the couple could celebrate.

Jia didn't have much time off while running the stunts for this movie, and Reuben had even less with the training he had been running for the Navy.

Well, the married couple was going to make the most of their child-free night. That just so happened to result in a second child.

Oops.

But Jia had seen the signs a few weeks after that night. First, she missed her period, but the stress she had been under that wasn't unusual.

She wasn't throwing up much, but she was easily nauseous and couldn't stand the smell of certain foods.

So she grabbed some tests from the drug store on her way home. Walking through the front door, she handed the bag to her husband, who was holding a spatula in one hand.

Reuben looked into the bag, and his eyebrows raised in surprise. "You think?"

Jia tilted her head. "It's definitely possible. Figured I can take them after we get the little rascal to bed tonight."

He took a breath. "Well, I did always say I wanted a big family."

Jia hit him on the shoulder, laughing as she walked to greet her daughter. "Only if you're the one pushing them out."

They acted as normal as possible through the rest of the night, making sure to keep their daughter as oblivious as possible.

Once she was asleep, Jia almost sprinted to the bedroom. Her hands were shaking just a bit as she took the tests.

Honestly, she didn't know why she was so nervous. It's not like they hadn't done this once before. And their daughter had started asking for a sibling anyway.

Reuben opened the door once he heard the lock reverse. "Now we wait."

Just like the first time, those five minutes took forever.

But when it was time to check the tests, the couple held their breath, turning them over together just like last time.

"It's positive!"

Cravings
Now Jia got the crazy cravings.

Of course, she still wanted sweet and salty, but now she wanted a lot of sushi.

The real kicker was that she wasn't the biggest fan of sushi or fish in general. She'd eat it if that was her only option, but it certainly wasn't her go-to choice.

Adding a few strange toppings to ice cream was also a trend for her.

Reuben swears he almost threw up himself when he saw her scoop some cotton candy ice cream onto a cool ranch dorito chip.

Last month
The last month of this pregnancy was kicking Jia's ass.

Because her work on this last movie was so successful, a lot of people wanted to work with her.

She had to let them down, at least for the moment, because she was heavily pregnant.

She was hot, couldn't get comfortable, and found it very hard to deal with her hyperactive two year old.

Delivery
Jia definitely felt this labor.

Since she wasn't doing as many physical stunts as she used to, her body was finally starting to evaluate pain like a normal person again.

So she was well aware when her contractions started. But no one was home except for her and her daughter, as Reuben had run out to grab some more food.

But the moment he walked through the door, Jia managed to waddle over to him, face bright red. "Hospital. Now."

He wasted no time gathering the things she needed for the stay. Both knew it would be a longer labor this time around, so they had called Reuben's sister to babysit for a little while.

Making it to the hospital, they were much calmer this time, telling the charge nurse she was in active labor.

Jia was required to take the wheelchair to the room, but this time, she wanted it as it was getting hard to walk.

Taking as many of the meds as possible, Jia was ready to pop this baby out.

Luckily for her, while it wasn't nearly as fast as the first one, she had a pretty quick labor, only in the hospital for about six hours before she was fully dilated.

It seemed Reuben was destined to be a girl dad because their baby girl was born, screaming her tiny lungs out for the world to hear.

Both of their daughters were absolutely perfect. A beautiful mix of their parents, the baby showed more features with Reuben.

Their little family was finally complete.
