O8 | first date

Roman wasn't big on theatrics, he just wanted to spend time with their favorite human being. He had planned for a simple dinner at a local restaurant. Now it was the day of the date and Roman had just gotten ready. Then he got a call from the said restaurant stating that an employee made a mistake in the system and overbooked the night. With this news, Roman ran a hand through his hair with a heavy sigh. Nothing is going as he had planned.

After a moment of pondering on what to do Roman starting to think about what would Parker like. The more he thought he realized Parker probably wouldn't have enjoyed the busy restaurant. All things happen for a reason, Roman thought to himself. With a wide smile, he started to change out of their semi-formal outfit and into a more casual outfit.

Whitewashed ripped cuffed jeans, a simple graphic tee with a pair of white sneakers. What really topped the outfit is the rings that decorated their fingers each being picked out by Parker back when Parker didn't know the mystery texter was Roman. After a moment of gathering their new supplies and setting up the new date idea on the rooftop, he finally decided to text their моё солнце about the slight change of plans.

[ROMAN]

Change of plans.

Dress comfy and I'll pick you up in 20.

♡♡♡

[PARKER]

Um, okay. How comfy? Like comfy-comfy or just comfy?

Comfy as in you can be in the outfit for a couple of hours.

So sweats and a tee gotcha.

Roman's heart soared for such a mundane response. He loved the realness in the matter. From their experience, people would just say words like that for just jokes. Knowing Parker for the last couple of months he knew that the Brazilian-Spanish boy was truly and wholeheartedly being honest. Besides anything Parker did makes Roman feel dizzy in the head and butterflies in their stomach. Roman hoped the euphoria he felt stayed forever. Before he realized it a couple of minutes had passed. It was time to go pick up Parker who hopefully was as anxious to go on this date as Roman was.

Their uncle was out on a business trip for the whole month meaning Roman didn't need to worry about any awkward moments of explaining him and Parker. Sadly this also means Roman had no one to say good morning to or good night to leaving the aching feeling of loneliness heavy in their heart. That loneliness, however, was replaced with a feeling he couldn't place. It wasn't happiness but included it, wasn't love, wasn't comfort, it was all and so much more. This feeling caused Roman to give a bright smile to himself as he walked out of the apartment complex and got into their, driving the 15 minutes to get to Parker's house.

When Roman finally arrived at the very stereotypical suburban household that resided Parker in it. From the window, he could see the shadow of Parker in the kitchen window patiently waiting at the dining room table. From their car, Roman could see flashes of an anime on the tv. To him, it looked like one of Parker's acclaimed magical girl anime. Roman let out a breath he had not known he was holding. His hands had a slight tremor on the black leatherette steering wheel. Closing his eyes, Roman thought to himself, This is just Parker. The goofball cutie that you are slowly falling for. No big deal right?

"No big deal my ass. I'm too nervous, we could just do a video call date so I don't screw this up." Before he could back out, Parker turned his head and a giant grin appeared on his tan face. Roman in that instant melted. He had never seen such a smile and it brought some sun on his dark inner thoughts. As Parker got up to come outside, all thoughts of leaving vanished from Roman's conscience.

"Hey." Was the first thing whispered off of Parker's soft lips.

"Hey yourself."

Parker's eyes quickly shifted out the window twiddling his thumbs. Roman took quick notice of his nervous actions and reached to place a hand on Parker's thigh. With a soft squeeze, he asked Parker, "What's wrong?"

"Um, I didn't want to offend you tonight, but I'm not sure how to ask this."

"Say whatever is on your mind. Nothing you ever say has actual malicious intent." Roman spared a glance at Parker with a soft smile.

"I just wanted to know what pronouns you wanted to use today. I know we only talked about your gender identity briefly in passing. I'm sorry if what I asked was invasive." Roman believed this might have been the happiest moment in his life. Someone cared enough to want to know what pronouns he was that day.

"Never be too shy to ask. Today my pronouns are he and they." Parker, still looking out the window, had a large grin across his face and moved his hand to catch Roman's.

After a couple more minutes of driving as the sun began to set, Parker decided to aux. Soft jams started to play through the car covering the once deafening silence. Parker kept skipping song after song. Unkown to Roman, Parker had this tendency whenever he was immensely nervous. Only two things made him nervous. One was the anticipation of receiving grades back and the other was attractive people, especially ones he was going on a date with.

"Okay, we're here. Welcome to my humble abode." Turning off the ignition both boys got out and walked into a simple white apartment complex.

"What's the plan for tonight?" Parker gave a small nervous smile. His brown eyes reflected the hallway lights, making them seem like they were twinkling and hiding an emotion. Roman gave the Brazilian-Spanish boy a cheeky grin.

"You'll see."

Both walked 4 flights of stairs until reaching a single blue door. Parker's curiosity only rose when waiting for Roman to open said door. Roman took out a single silver key and hesitated.

"Um, this is the first time I have ever done this. Please don't laugh." Roman looked over to Parker creating intense eye contact. Parker gave him a reassuring smile and started to laugh. This type of laugh came from the stomach, it was ugly and loud. The type of laugh you only allow a select of people to hear. With a snort, he fixed his breathing to stare at Roman again.

"At this point, I don't think anything you do would disappoint me. In the past couple of months, you have truly grown on me. For all I care, behind that door could be a Wendy's meal. And guess what?" Parker walked towards Roman reaching for their hand. Once both hands started to slowly reach each other, they both felt an intense pull, like it was fate. When both hands met Parker took the initiative to intertwine them.

"I would react the same way I would react if you took me out to a five-star restaurant for dinner. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as I am with you."

This newfound news brought a weird feeling from the pit of Roman's stomach. It took him a minute that it might as well have been love.

Holding his breath Roman unlocked the door. Behind the mysterious door was a rooftop garden. This was not a surprise to Parker what surprised him was the amount of work Roman put up there. There was a gazebo with fairy lights wrapped around every post. Inside the gazebo held a mountain of pillows and blankets. On the clothing line there laid a white sheet, with the opening credits to Studio Chizu's, Wolf Children.

"Wow."
