━━━ searching for a dead body !
❝ if bigfoot is finally making an appearance
i don't think now is a good time— ❞
𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐀 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐁𝐄𝐃 while scrolling through her laptop looking through tons of meaningless shit, feeling the soft bed sheets under her. She was attempting to bore herself out so she could go to sleep since the new semester began the next day, she dreaded it completely. A sigh of exhaust slipped from her lips because of her inability to sleep.
She got distracted when the gorgeous moonlight shined through her polyester curtains. The girl moved to this town in the middle of her freshman year. After some time, she figured out a multitude of rumors was being spread about her. She was known as the "Mysterious New Girl" and somehow people started to believe the most horrid things about her.
It felt like one second she was in the busy streets of New York and the next she was moving to the irrelevant uneventful Beacon Hills. The hum of Buddy Holly by Weezer rang from her computer lowly as wind flowing from outside filled the silence in her bedroom.
Sounds of screams come from outside, curiosity started to course through her. The idea of not knowing where it came from started to bother her. Getting up, she walked to her half-opened window and pushed it up. She stuck her head out looking around, luckily it was just her neighbor, Scott McCall.
She didn't know much about him, further from the fact that he was friends with a pale sarcastic boy known as Stiles Stilinski. Obviously, since he was hanging upside down on the tan boy's porch roof.
Zara was trying her best to understand what the two teens were saying. "...But you gotta hear this. I saw my dad leave twenty minutes ago. Dispatch called. They're bringing in every officer from the Beacon Department and even state police." The buzzcut boy informed his friend hearing a smug in his tone.
The brown-eyed girl wondered what could possibly happen in this remotely safe and average town that has caused a bringing of multiple police departments. Scott asked, "For what?" The question they were all dying to know.
The girl questioned as to why they were talking this late a night since she was aware of how Coach Finstock had yelled and reminded the economics class several times last year there was going to be lacrosse tryouts, which Zara couldn't give a single fuck about. Nevertheless, she was still going to it since the coach gave class credit for attending and she needed pictures for the yearbook club. Well, it wasn't even considered a club since she was the only person in it.
"Two joggers found a body in the woods." Stiles replied being way too excited about this dead body situation which would seem completely criminally insane of the boy if it was a normal person overhearing their conversation.
"A dead body?" The tan boy questioned as the other brought himself down from the porch roof. He looked at Scott annoyingly and sarcastically remarked, "No, a body of water. Yes, dumbass, a dead body!" Zara scoffed at the boy's comment as usual sarcasm dripped from his voice.
Naturally, of course, she took it upon herself to see what they were going on about. It was known that curiosity killed the cat, so was she going to risk it? Of course, she was which seemed quite foolish, but what do you expect she never claimed to be smart.
Grabbing a brown baggy zip-up jacket and black Nike sneakers, she slipped out the back door of her house attempting not to wake up her dad and her brother. Right before Zara closed the door a sound of footsteps appeared behind her. Turning her head luckily it was just her cat following her seeing it a small whitetail swing in the air.
"Shoo, go away!" She instructed the tiny pet in a go-away motion with her hands. However, it took much convincing for her to go. The brown-eyed girl got her bike rode down the empty night streets feeling the cold Northern Californian wind brush past her. Her breath is more and more visible as it got colder.
Finally getting to the woods a small sign that said 'BEACON HILLS PRESERVE' indicating where she was. Pulling the chain up that was holding the sign she swinging underneath it, the leaves beneath her crunching make her flinch a bit not expecting it to that that loud. She walked through many trees that all looked identical, with her phone flashlight shining just to get a glance of anything that was out in the limitless woods.
A howl echoed making the girl glance around quickly hoping not to see a rabid animal. Zara decided to stupidly keep on searching but immediately stopped hearing voices but continued once they faded away.
She hesitantly walked backward feeling her breath become heavier and her chest started to rise. Zara hit her flashlight against her thigh wishing for the batteries to use their last bit of energy but voices started to become more prevalent.
She grabbed her forehead in thought 'Wait, what if that killer is still out here?' letting out a loud sigh in her idiocracy. 'Fucking dumbass.' She mumbled to herself changing her direction, something hit her back and she turned quickly to hear a scream at her as she cupped her mouth. It ended up just being the two infamous best friends of Beacon Hills. Tripping over his own feet the pale boy accidentally fell on top of the girl, he was sort of known for being quite the clumsy guy.
It all happened so quick that he was sort of hovering over her. Stiles propped himself up with his arms next to her face so he wouldn't completely stampede the brown-eyed girl. She sarcastically voiced as her head hit against the ground harder than intended, "Isn't this quite a position to be in,"
The boy blushed as she broke him out of his thoughts, he rushed upward and wiped the wrinkles down his shirt. "I'm so sorry that— Oh my gosh," He groaned noticed the girl was still on the ground picking apart the leaves from her clothing. The teen leaned a hand to her helping the girl up, seeing his face turn completely red she let out a stifled laugh.
He turned to Scott with an embarrassed face as the Latino boy just smiled at the previous altercation. Stiles raised his eyebrows "What the hell are you even doing here?" Her head tilted and a scoff slid out from her lips. "When you hear two loud ass girlish screams in the middle of the night, it will cause curiosity and I thought you guys would pussy out."
The three came together propping themselves up of trees as Scott mumbled to himself 'My screams weren't girly' as his friend took offense to her believing they weren't going to go through with searching for the body. "You know, listening in on people's conversations is illegal." The scrawny boy tried to intimidate the girl.
Zara let out a small laugh as Scott furrowed his brows. she walked farther into the woods, "Yes, you are right, but for it to be considered a criminal offense then you would need to have proof that my 'eavesdropping' was intentional, at least one of you didn't allow to listen, your conversation was meant to be confidential, and that I have it recorded. However, you two have none of that. Case closed."
She slipped away from the two since she wasn't the biggest fan of talking to people. The two guys looked at each other a bit impressed. Following the girl, they insisted, "Hey, wait up!" They ran after her slightly. Zara's long legs made it difficult for them to keep up but she was questioning why they were following her. Scott started to use his inhaler three times more often in the next 10 minutes.
Racing up the paths, his breath began to shorten as the three went up a small hill. "Maybe the severe asthmatic should be the one holding the flashlight." Scott huffed out with difficulty letting himself rest on a tree, pumping his inhaler. Stiles brought his hands out to stop the two and slowed down seeing yellow police tape visible in the night marking off a perimeter.
The black-haired girl ducked down in hopes of the police not seeing her, she had quite the history with them. The two boys followed her action which caused her to roll her eyes. A grin appeared on the Stilinski boy's face since they were practically getting a full show view of the crime scene. "Come on!" He gets up like a dog all giddy and runs towards the yellow taped area.
The girl followed along in annoyance rather than being murdered out in the woods. "Stiles!" The asthmatic shouted as his friend gave him no time to take a hit of his inhaler. He continued, "Wait up! Stiles," Zara mindlessly ran after the boy seeing that police was almost shining their flashlights at the group, not being able to hear Scott's footsteps.
Letting out a huff of exhaust from the running and from the assumption that the shaggy-haired boy was left behind. He tried to yell after the two, Stiles were about to turn to his friend until he saw a familiar police dog and light shining at him.
She started to step back quietly as she felt someone grab her. Luckily it was Scott, "Sorry I was—" She brought her hand up covering the boy's mouth, and pulled him behind a tree, she wasn't trying to get caught. Bringing their ears out a little they heard a shout "Hold it right there!" Most likely coming from the cop with barking from a dog followed.
Scaring the living daylights out of the teen causing him to fall backward. Shinning the flashlight towards to boy made the police realize who it was. "Hang on, hang on. This little delinquent belongs to me." The sheriff admitted, calling off the police.
Stiles asked casually while trying to stop the rain from pouring on his face, "Dad, how are you doing?"
Clearly not having the ability to throw suspicion off himself. Zara let out a scoff mentally face-palming herself. "So, do you, uh, listen in to all of my phone calls?" Sheriff questioned his son with pure irritation in his voice. "No, uh...well not the boring ones." She would've laughed if they weren't in a serious situation.
"Now where's your usual partner in crime?" Sheriff inquired, seeming as it was unusual for the pair of boys to be apart since they were practically conjoined at the hip. "My gosh, are you two ever separated. What are you, the fucking siamese twins?" Zara raised a brow whispering to the shaggy-haired boy.
"Who, Scott?" The buzzcut boy stupidly raised a question. thinking of a quick lie he responded, "Scott's home. He said he wanted to get a good night's sleep for the first day back at school tomorrow, it's just me. In the woods...alone." The father didn't believe him, who would?
The Stilinski boy commonly lied to his father like a second instinct. "Scott, you out there? Scott!" The man attempting calling out for his sons friend in hopes of his judgement being correct. The light almost reached the pair since they were trying to hear the conversation but they quickly pushed themselves back before anymore suspicion has arisen.
After complete silence and no answer. The sheriff started hauling the boy away by his shirt. "Well, young man, I'm gonna walk you back to your car. And you and I are gonna have a conversation about something called the invasion of privacy." Zara was a little bit familiar in that department as well.
The girl peeked her head out to see if the coast was clear and it was, she started to walk towards the way she believed her bike was until she heard footsteps start to follow her.
Zara turned her head around with her eyebrows raised, "Scott, why are you following me?" The Latino boy stuffed his hands in his pockets nervously since he hadn't have many interactions with Zara, neither a girl in general. Reminding her a little bit of a dog in this moment by his actions and expressions.
"Well...I don't know what to do now,"
"I'm going to go find the path to my bike, you do whatever, McCall."
"Wait, what?! Your gonna leave me here alone with a killer running around?" He yelped put questionably.
Zara looked at him incredibly serious, "Uh, yeah. That's kinda my plan." Saying it like it was the most obvious option with a duh tone in her voice as she walked away. the boy was mentally freaking out rapidly making her turn her head towards him. She let out a sigh and gave in. "Fine! Follow me." Thunder started to fill the silence in the woods after.
The two began walking while Zara began to shake hit the flashlight vigorously hoping that it would stop flickering. Mumbling a string of curse words to herself as their only source of light was now malfunctioning. Randomly the boy stopped to take a hit of his inhaler but a sound of loud and vicious footsteps almost like a thumping noise erupted.
"You hear that too?" He nervously asked. She sent a slow nod to the asthmatic boy.
"If Bigfoot is finally making an appearance I don't think now is a good time—"
Being cut off by a huge group of deer began to stampede the duo causing them to fall to the ground with a shout. "Cover your head!" Zara insisted as she turned to the leafy ground with her arms around her head. Many grunts erupted from the two while the deer were practically stomping on them, out of nowhere it just stopped.
They looked to each other while rising to pick off the leaves and dirt from their clothing utterly confused about what the hell just happened. "Shoot, I dropped my inhaler." He groaned bringing his phone out to search for it. Doing the same as him Zara brought out her phone since she knew how expensive they were because her cousin had asthma. He muttered a 'thanks' with a sweet smile, that's when she knew that smile was going to be the cause of a lot of problems in Beacon Hills.
Randomly the Latino boy freaked out and tumbled down a small hill nearby. Rushing over to where he was she moved her phone light to illuminate what was around her and let her jaw drop. "Holy fucking shit, McCall you found the dead body," Her lack of reaction to a grossly dismembered body would definitely be concerning but her family past would say otherwise.
Averting her eyes to him she saw he was down the hill and slowly stumbled down it helping him get up. He was out of breath but kept on walking forward following her but quickly freezing as they felt an eerie presence behind them. Whatever it was started to growl they turned their heads with wide eyes seeing a large animal-like creature.
It started to run at them with such vast speed particularly going after the teen boy. Zara shrieked, harshly with no struggle threw her aside onto the ground, and attacked Scott. She clutched her left set of ribs as that was where the ground hit her while Scott scream indicated he was bitten.
She was in agonizing pain but couldn't imagine what he felt with all her might got up and grabbed him. They ran like their life depended on it and ironically it did. They ran out of the woods with rain pouring on them. Finally reaching the road a red car swerved out of their way barely missing the teens.
They two were left in the middle of the road attempting to catch their breaths and process what just happened which seemed to be occurring a lot that night. Panting while lifting his shirt Zara squinted to see it clearly it was a large animalistic bite surrounded with blood. She looked it worryingly, he hissed in pain. "That's definitely going to leave a scar...But hey at least it looks badass,"

please vote and comment i would love to hear your thoughts on this first chapter! the other chapters will get into her personality and backstory yk but i hope you guys like this. i was rewatching episode one for this and accidentally memorized the whole first scene between scott and stiles. i also did put a lot of work for the soundtrack for this book, most stiles part are songs that describe him or songs he would jam to, we all know he is an all time low fan.
