Chapter - 21
Y/n's POV
Once again, I found myself lying in bed, my gaze fixated on the ceiling above. The weight of sleeplessness pressed down on me, making nights feel endless. In this solitude, I was jolted awake by a soft, plaintive cry - it was Haneul, my precious little one.
Without hesitation, I sprang into action, racing to Haneul's side. With gentle care, I lifted her into my arms, her tiny frame nestled against my chest. With Haneul cradled securely, I tiptoed into our dimly lit bedroom. There, the sight of Yeonjun, peacefully asleep, provided a silent reassurance.
I settled onto the couch, cradling Haneul with unwavering devotion. With each gentle sway, I whispered soothing words into the quiet room, hoping to coax her back to sleep. Unbeknownst to me, exhaustion eventually claimed me too, but my maternal instincts kept Haneul safely nestled in my embrace throughout the night.
Soobin's POV
As morning's light washed over the house, I couldn't help but notice the absence of activity from Y/n and Haneul. The clock had already struck 9:00 am, and it felt strange not to see them downstairs. Our parents had tasked me with the mission of waking them up.
I approached their bedroom door, my knocks growing more persistent, but no response came from within. Anxiety crept in as I pushed the door open, revealing a scene that warmed my heart. Yeonjun lay sound asleep in their shared bed, his features serene and tranquil.
However, Y/n and Haneul were nowhere in sight. I ventured further into the room, my concern deepening. It was then that I saw them - Y/n on the couch, still holding Haneul close. It became clear that Haneul must have awakened in the middle of the night, and Y/n, in her devotion, had taken to the couch to comfort her.
I couldn't resist capturing this touching moment in a photo, the love between mother and child evident even in slumber.
Yeonjun's POV
After tending to my morning routine, I descended the stairs to join the rest of the family for breakfast. Eomma, Appa, and Soobin were already seated at the table, their voices animated in conversation. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, a comforting contrast to the earlier stillness of the house.
Eomma's gaze fell upon me, and she couldn't help but inquire, "Where is Y/n?"
I took a moment to reply, my mind still in the bedroom with Y/n and Haneul. "She's still asleep, Eomma."
Appa's curiosity was piqued, "And what about Haneul? I haven't seen her this morning."
Soobin chimed in, "Haneul is sleeping with Y/n."
Eomma nodded in understanding. "Alright then, come sit, Yeonjun. Let's have breakfast together."
I took my place at the table, grateful for the sense of warmth and family .
Y/n's POV
I woke up later than intended, the weight of the responsibilities at the Park Industry pressing heavily on my mind. It was no ordinary company; it was my mother's legacy, and I had heard that she hadn't visited in a month. Today, I couldn't delay any longer. As I finished my shower, I hastily dressed in my professional suit, my thoughts already racing ahead to the countless tasks awaiting me.
Exiting the bathroom, I hurried to my closet, grabbing a handbag and stuffing it with essentials - cash, keys, cards, and a key that I hoped was for the car. I turned to leave but paused when I saw Yeonjun standing there, holding Haneul.
I hesitated for a moment, knowing that I was leaving in a rush and without explaining myself. Yeonjun's concerned eyes bore into mine, waiting for an answer.
"I need to go to Park Industry," I replied, my voice tinged with urgency. "There's a backlog of work, and it can't wait any longer."
Yeonjun's brow furrowed slightly, and he glanced at Haneul nestled in his arms. "But you haven't even had breakfast yet."
I brushed off his concern, feeling the weight of my obligations pressing down on me. "I don't have time for breakfast, Yeonjun. There's too much to do. Just keep an eye on Haneul; she might start crawling away when you're not looking."
Yeonjun's expression softened, but he couldn't hide his worry. "I care about you and Haneul, Y/n. Wait a moment."
He moved closer, and before I could protest
Y/n's POV
Yeonjun carefully shifted Haneul into my arms, his touch gentle and reassuring. "I understand you have to go, but remember, we're here for you, both me and Haneul. Please be careful."
I couldn't help but smile at his unwavering support and love. Leaning in, I planted a soft kiss on his forehead, and then I bent down to give Haneul a tender peck on her chubby cheek. "I'll be back soon, my loves. Take good care of each other."
With that, I left our home, leaving behind the warmth of my family and the promises of their love. As I walked to the garage, I fumbled for a set of keys, unsure if it was for a car or a bike. In my haste, it didn't matter. I simply wanted to reach Park Industry as fast as me there.
Inside the garage, I tapped the key on the car's side mirror, and the vehicle unlocked with a soft click. It was a small relief to know that I wouldn't have to worry about transportation.
I slid into the driver's seat, started the engine, and pulled out of the garage. The drive to Park Industry was filled with anticipation and a sense of purpose. I couldn't help but think about the responsibilities that awaited me, the weight of my mother's legacy on my shoulders.
As I navigated through the familiar streets, my mind raced with thoughts of deadlines and tasks to be accomplished. Yet, a part of me longed for the calm moments I had left behind at home, with Yeonjun and Haneul, their love always grounding me.
Arriving at the company, I was met with a buzz of activity, the bustling office, determined to bring order to the chaos that had ensued during my absence. My presence alone seemed to instill a sense of urgency among the employees. Their whispers ceased, and they greeted me with a mixture of respect and apprehension.
"It's been a while, but I'm still the same Y/n you remember," I addressed the staff, my voice carrying authority. "Don't expect any special treatment today. We have a lot of work to catch up on."
I could sense the tension in the air as everyone understood the gravity of the situation. The works that had been neglected during my absence needed to be completed, and I wouldn't tolerate any further delays.
Despite the initial fear in the eyes of my employees, I knew that firmness was necessary to get things back on track. I focused on my work, determined to lead by example.
As the hours passed, I found myself deeply engrossed in the tasks at hand. The backlog was slowly diminishing, and the office was gradually coming back to life. My computer's desktop wallpaper, the image of Haneul's laughter, served as a constant reminder of why I was pushing myself so hard.
Midway through my work, a polite knock on the door disrupted my concentration.
"Come in," I called, my voice more relaxed now.
The door opened, revealing Yeonjun standing there, holding a box and Haneul in his arms. A genuine smile spread across my face at the sight of them.
"You missed your breakfast, lunch, and now you're trying to skip dinner," Yeonjun remarked, his eyes filled with concern.
I couldn't help but chuckle at his persistence. "Yeonjun, what are you doing here?"
He stepped closer, offering the box and Haneul to me. "Well, I brought you dinner and a gift."
My heart swelled with affection for him and our daughter. "You know I'm working," I replied, though my resistance was waning.
Yeonjun's eyes softened. "You see, both Haneul and I missed you, so I came here."
I couldn't help but feel my resolve weakening as I gazed at the thoughtful gesture. "Come on, Yeonjun. I haven't finished my work yet."
He gave me a reassuring smile, his determination unwavering. "You've been working for eight hours. Now, it's my turn to take over. No need to worry."
I hesitated for a moment, torn between my commitment to my work and the longing to spend time with my family. Ultimately, love won over. I placed the box he brought on my desk and reached out to take Haneul into my arms.
"Alright, you win," I conceded with a grin. "Let's have dinner together."
Yeonjun settled into my chair, ready to tackle my workload. As I sat at the desk, cradling Haneul and sharing a meal with my family, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for their unwavering support in this demanding journey of balancing work and family.
