2. The troublemaker

Stefan Peirce

I slam the Dean's office door shut. He wasted my first half an hour of college by preaching on that troublemaker.

She owes me a half an hour!

"I'm incredibly proud of you. Let's go to the canteen now; I'm starving." Charlie murmurs from behind, clutching his stomach, ignorant of the fact that I am the new head boy.

Charlie Eastwood, my only promising friend. We chose to study the same major here. He didn't want to join at all, but when my father informed him I'd be spending half of my day panicking and organizing everything properly, anxiously arranging my bed, my wardrobe, my desk in symmetrical order, and cleaning my room every hour, he decided he couldn't leave me alone.

I needed a break from my father's 'you must study everything about business before you can join me' lessons, which had been going on for the past 3-4 years. As his son, I assisted him in making many deals with the clients. I traveled to many countries for meetings and contracts. Till then, I had no idea our business was that large, spanning more than 15 counties.

Dad realized I needed a degree after all of this homeschooling.

Since Dad and the Dean had known each other for a long time, we were able to gain entrance without having to give a million reasons. Besides, my father thinks I'll be safe here.

"First, we must find the girl." I push his hand off my shoulder and start heading to her class. Charlie scowls but follows me nonetheless.

Dean admits that she is talented in both academics and sports, but she is the one who enjoys getting herself or others into trouble.

She's known for her pointless fights, in which she nearly knocks the other person out of consciousness. Pranking professors, mass bunking, leaking test papers, and bizarre bike racing on campus during class hours.

The worst thing she's done in the last three years is set fire to one section of the chemistry lab due to an argument with the lab assistant.

She's the last person I would want to hang out with.

Is it, however, necessary for me to do so? I already have a lot on my plate and a lot more shit to deal with than babysitting a girl. This year is going to be a disaster!

"Oh, that reminds me of something. As I entered the campus, I saw a girl, and man, was she hot! However, the problem is that she has a fucking attitude." Charlie says.

"Every girl, Charlie, has an attitude. Now shut up and help me find this troublemaker.

I step into the 2A building. In front of me, the same nerdy guy from Dean's office is talking to some girl who's now walking backward.

I don't stop and expect her to walk like a normal person, but instead, she bumps into me.

Our eyes meet as she turns. To say she has the most beautiful eyes would be an understatement.

She has a biker jacket and leather pants on her. Thick black hair and fine eyebrows. I swallow a lustful thought.

The nerd guy whispering something in her ears breaks our indecently long silence.

Maybe she is the girl I am looking for.

This bitch!

Why she has to be this good-looking? Can't she be some ugly-looking girl with thick glasses and witchy teeth?

"Mr. Newbie. It's great to finally meet you! Myself—"

"Clara Carter. A feisty brat, a pain in the ass. Psychology major."

I know who the hell are you, foxy girl.
Didn't I just find a perfect nickname for her?

She silently chuckles and forwards her hand in mine. "Stefan Peirce. Company Secretary major." I say.

"Ah, the head boy. Good for you. Because you're new here, it would make me happy if you could stay out of my business and I'll stay out of yours. Sounds like a deal?" she asks in her stereotypical attitude as everyone says.

After thinking for a while, I decide. "I'm afraid I'll have t pass on it." Quite a sight to witness her expressions when I said that. I force a sarcastic smirk and walk away without sparing a second glance at her.

It's gonna be fun to keep her hanging like this.

"That's the same girl I was talking about!" Charlie whisper yells.

Well then, she is sexy!

"Who in the world do you want to meet now, Stefan?" Charlie expresses his dissatisfaction and hunger through his upset voice. For the past ten minutes, we've been wondering about, greeting students and professors like idiots to make our presence known.

"The last guy, in the canteen," Even before I say canteen, his eyes light up. Charlie jogs straight to the food counter as soon as we walk through the doors.

It isn't all bad in the canteen. Tables are neatly arranged, the food menu is diverse, and the walls are covered in crazy paintings. My senses are filled with the clanking of steel over dishes and the combined smell of a range of foods.

"How's it going, new boy?" Behind me, a bossy voice speaks. A heavily muscled guy wearing a black t-shirt, denim jacket, and tattoos. Behind him are two guys dressed similarly.

"It's also nice to meet you, Samuel." I greet and shake his hand.

I was looking forward to meeting him. To be friends with him rather than to warn him about the 'maintain discipline' and other nonsense. My knowledge is that if I maintained a solid friendship with him, he would be really helpful. Samuel Creed is one of those people you can't help but suspect in a crowd. When you look into his intense and stern dark eyes, you experience the risk of being held at an invisible stake.

"Stefan Peirce. Son of Austin Peirce, one of the country's most successful businessmen. At your father's request, you are pursuing the degree of Computer Secretary at this college. Ah! not to mention—the head boy." He repeats the information available in media with a stalker's tone. I shrug and gesture to a table.

Charlie arrives with these two trays in his hands, full of burgers, sandwiches, and cold drinks, and sits before we can.

"Guys! Why are you standing there? Sit." He rushes the words in when he notices us and takes a big mouthful out of his sandwich.

"That's my friend, Charlie, by the way. Charlie, Samuel." I introduce them with clenched teeth. How can he be so hungry all of the time?

I grab a drink from his tray and drink half of it in one go as I sit next to him. Despite the fact that he knows I can't stand things being disturbed or disorganized, this clumsy crackhead strews tissues and wrappers next to me. I rub my hands together as I push them back towards him.

Samuel takes a seat in front of me, backed by his sidekicks. "Listen up, man. I don't want any more people to hate me; there are already a lot of them. So, can we just be friends and leave the evil eye-casting off the table? "He asks as he scans the surroundings.

"That's why I'm here," We both smirk as soon as I say this. He gets up and walks over to offer me a hug.

"Good to see you too, Stefan." he adds, patting my back.

As my phone buzzes in my front pocket, I break the hug. I dig it out and read the name written on it, Mae.

My blood turns cold. Panic surges through my veins at an incredible speed. My chest heaves and my face become stiff. I imagine all the worst things she wants to say to me as a fear, concern, and anxiety begin to take over my thoughts one by one.

"Excuse me?" I gasp without looking at them and hurriedly exit the room. I hear them calling my name, but I ignore and go around the building, where no one is, to my car.

I take a deep breath and pick up the call.

"Are you okay?"
