𝖝. Call of Danger

『Act I • Side A』
CHAPTER TEN

🌙🔮🌙✨

The familiar blue jeep of Stiles' pulls up in front of the Beacon Hill's animal. June's eyes immediately widen when she sees a multitude of police vehicles swarmed around it. Her eyes turn to the front seats where Scott and Stiles sat– both equally nervous, judging by the looks of her face—and the newfound witch still did not know how to feel. She tried to swallow her anxiety in—tuck it in her stomach before it could reach to her again—but to no one's surprise that didn't work out as planned.

"Wow..." Eliza mused from next to her, sounding surprised. Her pale blue eyes wandered around the crowd curiously but unlike Juniper, Eliza wasn't nervous. In fact, she looked excited almost. June rolled her brown eyes at how ridiculous that would be. June would run away from danger, but Eliza (her polar opposite) would fearlessly run toward it, and probably embrace the danger with wide arms.

"Alright, here's the plan." Stiles says after an exasperated sigh, turning around to face the girls. "Scott and I go in to get whatever clues we can from my dad. Once we get enough intel, we go wherever we must, and you supernaturals pew-pew the Darach's ass. Deal?"

June's looks at her best friend ridiculously. As she was about to protest, Eliza jumps in. The blonde witch looks excited, and June is ready to scream at her stupidity. "Deal!" Eliza almost squeals, her grin wider than any smile she ever wore.

Stiles twists his brows ridiculously. "Alright, I know you have fire powers, but chill."

Scott groans softly from the passenger seat. It was almost inaudible, but June hears it and smiles softly. They both could sense the incoming banter between Stiles and Eliza.

As expected, Eliza is irritated by Stiles's comment. She narrows her eyes at him. "You know I can burn you right?"

The only human in the jeep puts on a fake. "I do actually. You said it like, five times."

Eliza opens her mouth, about to counter, but Scott stops her before she can. June gives out a sigh of relief. "Let's go." The werewolf says, dragging Stiles out of the jeep. Eliza has a good laugh about this, and Stiles rolls his eyes at her.

The police members look at the duo confusedly, but once they realise that it's the sheriff's son, they let them both in. It's not new for Scott and Stiles to be present at a crime scene.

An awkward, almost irritating silence follows in the jeep. June is looking everywhere but her. But her brain is pounding with an unbelievable amount of questions—it has been ever since Eliza revealed to her that she was a lunar witch. Something as rare as the blue moon.

From the corner of her eye, June tries to discreetly observe Eliza. It's not like the fire witch is busy or anything, June could easily ask her all her questions. She plays it over in her head before sighing deeply. Honestly, June is afraid of what else she would learn about herself once all her doubts are cleared.

"So, Eliza?" she calls out, trying to be as polite as she can. Eliza looks at her, raising her eyebrows in question.

June tries hard to play it cool. Too hard. "How did you know that I was a lunar witch?" She asks meticulously. There is no change in Eliza's expression and that is when June realises that Eliza was already expecting these questions from her.

"I already told you," the blonde replies rigidly, "Lunars are genetic. Your parents and mine are friends. Connect the dots."

The mention of her parents knowing the truth felt like a punch in June's gut. The thing is, when it comes to her parents, the two people she knew her whole life, and she really did think they wouldn't hide anything this important from her. She can't even face her father since she found out—and her mom is out in Japan now, June needs to wait another few days to confront her.

"Why didn't they tell me, then?"

Eliza looks at June sympathetically then. "I really don't know June. I thought you would have known. Maybe they wouldn't have told you that you were a Lunar—that news comes with a burden. But I honestly thought you would have known they were witches."

"Well, they never told me." June groans in frustration. "They never even mentioned it."

"I'm sure they had a good reason." Eliza tries to convince her. But looking at her ocean-like eyes, June knows that Eliza didn't mean that. There was no good enough reason to hide something from June, something that changes her entire life.

Okay, moving on... June reminds herself, hopping to the next question. "Why is Deucalion after me?" The Lunar fails to keep her voice from shaking, but Eliza pretends like she doesn't hear the shivers in her voice.

The blonde witch sighs deeply. "Lunar witches are rare as fuck, June. And when a werewolf spots one, it has to make sure the Lunar is dead. You're just figuring out your powers, it's the best time for him to hunt you down."

June widens her diamond eyes, so much so that they're the shape of spoons. "How can you say all of that so coolly?"

Eliza is quick to defend herself. "No, no, no—you don't have to worry! We'll all make sure you're safe, Juniper."

June flares her nose in anger, shaking her head furiously. "You don't get it, do you? This is my life we're talking about and I'm not gonna risk it just because—"

The loud hustle coming from the jeep doors opening interrupt her venting. Stiles and Scott enter, looking flustered as hell.

"What the hell did you guys do?" June scolds, much to the boys' displeasure. In her defence, June had to let out her anger on someone.

"Nothing." Stiles says hastily. "My dad wouldn't tell us anything. But we found Deaton's sister. We need Lydia if we want to find him."

He quickly reverses the jeep (before the engine spluttered a couple times, of course) taking the road to what June assumes to be the high school.

"Deaton has a sister?" Eliza asks with furrowed eyebrows.

"I know right? We had no idea either." Stiles replies.

Scott and June soon find themselves in the school hallway, scavenging the entire area for a redhead. Scott had said he heard the fire alarm blare when they were just outside of school, which would explain the hallway is scarce. Despite this, the duo are unable to find Lydia.

"Where could she be?" June asks as she scours the chemistry lab for the second time. "She must have left too."

"Stiles found her." Scott's low voice chimes in. She whips her head, and Scott shows her the message Stiles had sent him. June just nods her head hurriedly, exhaling. "Let's go back then."

June jogs towards the exit doors, but stops midway when she realises that Scott isn't with her. Confused, she turns around to find him standing in the middle of the hallway, head low in concentration.

The hair on her neck stand as chills travel down her spine. She watches in full indiscretion as Scott's eyes move towards the band room. That immediately causes June to wonder whether he's hearing something strange.

"Scott?" She whispers, but the echo from the empty hallway and Scott's superhearing make her sure that he heard her. The werewolf whips his head to her, his eyebrows furrowed deeply. His eyes soften when he notices June. He completely forgot she was there with him. "Do you hear something?"

"There's a continual tapping from there." He says ghastly, pointing to the band room. His head suddenly switches to the room again. "It's increasing now."

June's heart pounds. A harsh voice in her mind tells her she's in grave danger; she isn't questioning it. Scott looks over at her worriedly, June knows it's because he hears her heart. She wants to tell him to not worry, but she knows he can tell her lies.

June's first instinct is to run—and she really wants to. But something magnetic about Scott standing right there, looking over at her, pulls her away from her wishes. It's the same overwhelming feeling again, one that came whenever they were together like this. Almost like she has no control over her own body, she finds herself striding towards Scott with confidence she didn't know she had.

And so together, June and Scott walk towards the band room. Somehow, they both know what to expect.

Deucalion.

Wearing a black leather jacket over a black shirt, the Demon Wolf is perched on the long stool, his white cane incessantly tapping on the piano in front. The first thing June notices are the black glasses in front of eyes. He is the Blind Alpha.

"Do you know what a metronome is?" He asks in a devilish voice once he's felt their presence. June halts in her pace, holding her breath as she tries to stay still, but her galloping heart won't let her be.

"It's a tool to help maintain steady rhythm once you've set the tempo." He answers his own question. "Something tells me that the tempo of your lives have sped up considerably in the last few hours. If you want, I could help slow it down to a more manageable pace." A light, almost invisible smirk lingers on his lips.

June says nothing, she just simply watches him like a ghost. Her pacing heart won't slow down and she's quickly reminded of the conversation she had with Eliza only moments ago. He wants to kill you, the demonic voice in her head chants. She stands behind Scott helplessly, not trusting her powers at the moment. She doesn't have control over them, she doesn't know how she took down Ethan singlehandedly-- that was only a fluke.

"How?" Scott asks Deucalion with desperation in his voice. June spots the smirk on the Alpha quickly, and goes further in behind Scott, concealing herself fully. It's not like Deucalion can see her. Yet, she's afraid.

With a smirk unmistakably evil, the Demon Wolf says, "By helping you find Deaton."

For this, the duo have no response. They remain silent, only their eyes watch Deucalion's movements meticulously. He gets up from his chair and June takes another step away from him. Fear is clouding everything around her.

"Your heart is pounding, Scott. But it's not fear. It's anger." He says shamelessly, slowly walking towards them. June observes Scott from behind and watches his shoulders rise and fall with each breath—he was angry.

"—And Juniper." The Lunar witch whimpers when he says her name, all the warning signals in her mind blaring madly. Scott furrows his eyebrows furiously, determined to protect June.

"You're definitely scared. Ironic, isn't it? According the myths, I should be the one who's afraid of you." He takes a few more steps closer, June hides behind Scott, hoping to crawl into a dark corner and stay there. "Lunar witches are supposed to be the death of werewolves. Did you know that, Scott? Are you sure you want her around when she could kill you with a snap of her fingers?"

"Where is Deaton?" Scott asks through gritted teeth, clearly enraged.

The Alpha takes two steps back, allowing June to sigh with relief. "Tell you what," He says. "I'll reveal Deaton's location if you can take the cane away from me, Scott."

June doesn't get the chance to comprehend what's happening as Scott swiftly lurches towards Deucalion's cane, determined to win this challenge. His efforts go to vain as Deucalion pushes him to the ground, smashing the cane on Scott as he moves all around the room. Leaping on the piano, doing a 360 degrees jump, being a gymnast for the next few seconds as he tries to reach for the cane without getting countered by Deucalion. Without any clue, June just stands there in the corner and watches. Watching as how the Demon Wolf managed to defend himself despite being blind only intensified her fear. How on earth is she supposed to defeat him?

Eventually, Deucalion takes off the tip of his cane, revealing a glistening blade. June gasps, and instinctively runs towards Scott as though to protect him. This time too, she has no control over her actions. The moment she did though, she regretted it. Not only did she fail to 'protect' Scott (he was capable of doing that for himself) but in all the chaos, she earned herself a slash from the blade. She hisses in pain, falling back and in the movement, distracting Scott as well. Deucalion takes this to his advantage and slashes Scott's shoulder.

"Impressive," Deucalion scoffs as Scott falls by June's side, more concerned about June's gnash than his own. "But you know I'm not the one slashing up innocent people, praying to ancient gods, gathering herbs or whatever the hell druids are supposed to do."

In other words: he isn't the Darach.

"Although I am part of the pack that wants Derek dead. Kali is going after him and someone will die tonight. It's up to you whether that person is Derek or Deaton. I will give you a very important clue—" Scott looks up at him expectantly, his hand covering the gnash on the opposite shoulder.

"Let the current guide you." The Demon Wolf preaches poetically before walking out of the band room, tapping his cane on the floor.

Once he leaves, the duo look at each other at the same time. "Are you alright?" They ask each other at the same time, causing them to laugh lightly. June realises that the wound on Scott's shoulder has healed, so he is okay. But the gnash on her forearm is bleeding profusely.

June tightens her eyes shut to take her mind away from the wound. She really gets nauseous around blood and the last thing she needs is letting it all out. "Does it hurt?" June hears Scott ask, the fret in his voice evident.

'No shit, Sherlock.' June thinks, but says nothing. "Can't you use your witch powers or something?" He asks again.

"I don't think so." June says, opening her eyes. She tries to steer her mind from the wound by looking at Scott. Scott's definitely a good distraction for her brain.

"Wanna help me dress the wound quickly so we follow the river or whatever the fuck he said?" June asks in a sarcastic tone, although her eyebrows are raised unsurely.

Scott chuckles. "Yeah," he smirks, his jaw looking more crooked now. June thinks it looks good on him, she finds herself smiling at him despite the situation around her. Looking at her smile, Scott couldn't resist one of his own. Quickly, he helps June stand up and with an arm around her, they move towards the hospital wing.
