𝖝𝖎𝖎. Witches and Werewolves
『Act I • Side A』
CHAPTER TWELVE
✨🌙🔮🌙✨
June and Scott still hold hands as they leave the animal clinic, June trying her hardest to hide the incessant blush creeping to her cheeks. Her heart has been strangely calm- which she is grateful for. The amount of times her heart panged against her chest because of Scott is embarrassing enough. And the fact that he can hear it louder as if her heart is attached to his earphones.
They meet the group of people gathered outside (they thankfully don't notice Scott and June's intertwined hands) and it seems like Eliza and Stiles are arguing... again.
"We're not gonna fit in this dump, Stiles, we should all just take a bus and hurry up."
"Please, you're just saying that because you don't wanna fart with everyone inside my jeep."
"Excuse me-"
"Oh please, save your lies. We all smelled it when you farted in the animal clinic, we're just pretending. Can't imagine what it must've been like for Scott and Core- jeez."
Eliza's face is red with embarrassment and anger. "Oh, I'm going to fucking burn your insides and feed it to the dogs once this is all-"
"Enough!" Cora screams, her jaw clenching. She bares her fangs at the duo and it does the deed, as Stiles cowers away. Eliza on the other hand, just huffs and braids her arms. Before the werewolf can continue her lecture, her phone chimes, indicating a text.
Cora's face turns pale as she reads the text. She turns to look at the group, dread on her face. "It's Boyd, the plan didn't work. They cut the power."
Everyone in the group wears a shocked expression, except June, who has no clue what plan they're talking about. Whatever it is, it's definitely bad.
"That's just like he said," Says Scott, looking to the ground. June looks up at him and can practically feel the wheels in his mind turning, she inadvertently squeezes his hand. "You guys go. I can save Deaton myself."
"What? No, it's too dangerous."
"Wait, what about us?" Stiles asks, ignoring June. she hasn't seen Scott in action as he has, and Stiles knows for a fact that Scott can take care of himself.
"Cora can't get there fast enough without you," Scott insists. "Go. We can save both of them."
Stiles nods in agreement, pushing everyone towards the jeep. Eliza hesitates but calls shotgun, which raised a frown from Cora. Obviously, Eliza ignores her. If Cora thinks she's the superior supernatural woman in this group, she was very wrong. Eliza is a certified girl boss number one (she gave that title to herself, but that's not important).
"Go with them, June," Scott tells the lunar witch, gesturing to the faded-blue jeep. June shakes her head. "No, I'm coming with you."
June thinks she's probably the biggest hypocrite to exist. Just two minutes ago she was telling Scott how she's nothing but a liability and now she's insisting to walk into the lion's den. But all of this doesn't matter to her, because she'll be there with him. Recently, it seems like nothing else matters except Scott McCall.
She can feel the protest about to come but she squeezes his hand assuringly before he can say anything. He relents after a second and nods, squeezing her hand back and pulling her out with him.
In his jeep, Stiles looks at the duo who just left with wide eyes. "Is June not coming with us?"
"Please, dork," Eliza rolls her eyes. "Did you really not see the way they were clinging to each other like two touch-starved kids?"
"Oh my God," Stiles looks like someone just told him Santa is real. "Do you think they're dating?"
Eliza scoffs, "What I think is, after all this is over, those two are gonna get in bed together."
Now Stiles looks like aliens have invaded the Earth. "Holy shi-"
Cora smacks his head before he can finish his curse, "Just drive."
━━☆⌒.⌒☆━━
It's pouring heavily outside and Scott and June are completely drenched as their make their way into the Beacon Hills National Bank. When she insisted she go with him, June did not count the fact that they'd be going on his motorbike, pressed together.
The rain didn't help either.
But June pushes those thoughts aside, cautiously following the Beta inside the bank. Scott seems to know where he's going and June trusts him blindly as she rushes behind him, her heart thundering inside her chest. But this time it isn't because of how Scott made him feel- it was because of the impending fear of what could happen. June can't help but feel that way.
The vault's door is open and upon recognising it, Scott speeds in. Unlike Scott who is gifted with the powers of superspeed, June has to scamper behind him like she's being chased. And that's when she sees it again.
It's that fucking cat again.
June's legs stop the moment she spots it, perched on the floor across from her. Its bright fur creates a neon hue in the otherwise dark bank and just like the first time she saw it, the cat's slitted eyes bore into hers. Call her insane, to June's eyes, the cat's look is murderous.
She's too nervous to even gulp down her fears.
June wants to call out to Scott but she knows that would be stupid. How can she be afraid of a cat? She's sure that the other cats definitely aren't like this creepy.
Maybe if she makes her way to Scott slowly, the cat won't bother doing anything. She takes long strides, almost tiptoeing towards the direction Scott went in, never breaking eye contact with her. Her heart is beating loudly, Scott can probably hear it, but at this point all her heart does is beat fast and loud. It's getting annoying.
She hears a crash coming from the vault and suddenly June forgets everything about the cat, her mind immediately blaring like alarms as she sprints toward the vault as though her legs had a mind of their own. "Scott?" She calls worriedly, running inside.
She gasps when she sees Deaton hanging by his hands from the ceiling, sweat dripping from his forehead. His eyes are closed and he looks like he's on the brink of consciousness. June finds Scott on the floor, groaning in pain and she doesn't waste a second rushing to him.
She helps the werewolf to his feet. "There's some kind of barrier around him," Says Scott, breathing heavily. That's when June's eyes see the circle painted in black on the ground surrounding Deaton. She furrows her eyebrows. Barriers?
Her gut tells her this has to be the doing of a witch. Her heart starts beating faster again and this time she can't bother about it. "How do we break it?" She asks.
Scott shakes his head. "I don't know. We have no other choice but to break through it." He looks at her, and his hand searches for hers. When he finds it, he squeezes her hand, and it sends chills to June's spine. "Do you think you can try using your witch powers?"
Juniper bites her lips. She really wants to say yes, and she does want her witch powers to help them out of this situation- clearly, it was a witch in the first place who placed the barrier around Deaton. She wishes that she has control over her powers more than anything, but then she recounts that brief moment in Motel California when a sudden inexplicable power surged over her and she was able to push Ethan off of her, even if it was only for a moment.
If she could do it once, she can do it again.
June squeezes Scott's hand back. "I'll use my powers, I promise."
Scott lets out a sigh of relief and they go back towards the barrier readying their stances. He nods at her for confirmation and she bobs her head, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes. She tries to focus on nothing but her powers, recalling the incident with Ethan and remembering how she felt when she held death at her fingertips. She imagines the moon, and the serene feeling it brings to her every night. Her drawn connection to the moon her whole life makes sense now.
She remembers her dreams about Scott, as much as she doesn't want to. That dream seemed to be the start of it all, the core of her involvement with the supernatural. She remembers Scott's scarlet eyes and how they threatened to rip out her throat. She remembers wanting to run away from him, wanting to hide... being afraid of him.
When June opens her eyes, they are resolute.
Together, she and Scott spread out their palms against the barrier and the moment she touches it, she feels her hands burn. She doesn't give up though and continues to push through, the barrier feels like it was made out of steel. She tries to channel all of her powers to her fingertips and use every ounce of her strength to break the barrier. At the moment nothing else matters.
She hears Scott scream as he struggles to push through, the barrier obviously resisting him. June pushes herself harder, not wanting to lose the continuity. Come on, come on. She bites her lips to resist the scream, every muscle in her body clenching. She tastes the blood drip from her lips, and she's almost come close to losing her breath.
Then, June sees Deaton, his brown eyes are open now and he hopefully looks between the duo. That somehow triggers her dormant powers.
She screams as her surging powers gushes through her fingertips, the bolt inside her finally unlocked. She feels herself get through the barrier, although it's only by an inch, it's progress. June can feel Scott's power rising all of a sudden too, it's like he too had dormant powers buried inside him.
This is it, she thinks. We can do it. We are doing it. We can save-
Her thoughts are interrupted as the barrier resists both of their powers, throwing them to the ground. June's confused eyes meet Deaton's for a second before they slowly close. "No, no!" She rushes back to the barrier, trying to hunt for her powers again.
But it's like her powers have decided to take a nap, they don't return. "But we were so close..."
Scott comes behind her and holds her shoulders. "June-"
"What are we gonna do? Why am I so useless?" She breaks down, tears flowing down her cheeks. She's done it again- absolutely nothing.
"June?" Scott sounds panicked. Why is she so good at worrying others? She hates herself for it. "Hey, June-"
Scott stops midway when his ears perk up at the sound of footsteps. "Get behind me," he says, gently pushing June behind him. He locks his eyes on the vault's door expectantly, ready to pounce on the intruder.
When he saw a figure's shadow near the door, Scott almost lept, but he paused in his moments when he realised who it was. Confusion clouds his mind when Noah Stilinski holds his gun and points it upwards.
"Mr Stilinski?" June blinks in shock when she sees her best friend's dad in his police attire, ready to shoot his gun.
"Leave this to me, kids," Noah says before pulling the trigger, and the next second Deaton is thrown to the floor.
June breathes a sigh of relief when Deaton opens his eyes, groaning at the sudden impact before standing up with wobbly legs and bouncing out of the circle as though he was playing a game of hopscotch.
Scott moves forward to hold his mentor's shoulder, squeezing it. "I'm so glad you're okay." He says, a smile relaxing the tension on his face. Deaton forces a smile back at Scott who is unaware of the heavy weight on Deaton's chest. The man looks between Scott and June, his heart beating as the realisation dawns on him.
Unbeknownst to the duo, when they were trying to break through their barrier, their eyes gave out a forbidden story that Deaton was afraid would come true. He really hoped that it wasn't the case, that it was a complete coincidence that a werewolf and a lunar witch met. There was no doubt that the two teenagers had strong feelings for each other- Deaton knew that since the beginning- but with all his heart, he hoped it was a pure coincidence for Scott's sake.
But no. The curse of the three covens will come true- Deaton knew that the moment he saw Juniper's purple eyes... and Scott's red eyes. He had the mark of a True Alpha- he is the True Alpha- the werewolf that is as rare as the Selene.
He recounts the prophecy in his head. When the Selene meets a werewolf as rare as she, she will break the curse and it will be the end of the supernatural as they know it.
Deaton can hear his own heartbeats loudly inside his ears. His breaths are heavy as he eyes Juniper Tanaka. The Selene.
This is it. There is no stopping the curse once it has already been set in motion. The doom has been set in stone.
The Selene has met the True Alpha.
