― chapter 12.

❝ no one is getting pregnant, okay? ❞

"AYANE, AYANE GUESS WHAT!" Miguel came running up to her at her locker, grabbing her hands excitedly.

"What, what?" she said with a confused smile.

"My mom- she said that I can train again. I get to keep doing karate!"

Ayane grinned, shaking her head. "Well isn't that something? It's a shame though; I was considering teaching you myself."

She shut her locker, walking through the hall with Miguel.

He gave her a look. "Let's be honest, we wouldn't get a whole lot done."

Ayane cackled, shrugging at his fair point.

Just then, someone came up from behind them and clapped both of their shoulders. They both turned their heads, seeing Demetri squeeze between them.

"So, let me clear this up real quick; yesterday you guys are furious with each other and today you're inseparable. Explain."

Ayane shoved him lightly. "That's just how things work out sometimes, Bilbo. Now why don't you get out of our relationship and go find one of your own?"

Demetri shot her a look, Ayane smirking at him.

"You are very mean for no reason."

"It is a gift."

He walked away to find Eli, leaving Ayane and Miguel alone.

"So, do you want to come to the dojo today?" Miguel asked her, swinging her hand back and forth.

Ayane raised her eyebrows. "It's already opened back up for business? It didn't stay closed very long."

Miguel rolled his eyes. "A few days is long enough for me. Anyway, are you coming?"

She thought for a moment, shrugging. "I don't see why I couldn't. But- are you guys going to get any new students any time soon? I mean, the place is kind of barren."

He narrowed his eyes at her. "Yeah- I've been thinking about that. And I was like, what if me and Ayane staged a fight? That's guaranteed to bring some popularity to the dojo."

"Yeah... no," she laughed a little, tilting her head. "One, if my parents find out I got in a fight I'll be serving a lifetime sentence. Two, we're from different dojos, remember? And three, I'd hate to have to embarrass you like that."

Miguel shot her a look, rolling his eyes at the last part.

"I guess those are valid points," he huffed, rubbing his still bruised eye. "But still. Me and Sensei are both getting desperate. We need students."

Ayane tapped her chin in thought, racking her brain for ideas.

"Can't you karate chop some wooden boards or something? Or- I don't know, kick someone in the face?"

"Lovely suggestions, but no."

Ayane scoffed, shrugging. "I give up. I have to get to class. I'll see you in study hall."

She let go of his hand and turned the other way when Miguel suddenly grabbed her back, pulling Ayane into a kiss.

He pulled away, smiling satisfactorily. "Sorry, that felt necessary. Bye."

Miguel rushed down the steps as the bell rang, Ayane standing there in shock for a moment.

She shrugged it off, going to class.

That was something Ayane could get used to.

. . . .

STUDY HALL DID NOT EXACTLY have a lot of studying going on.

Instead, Ayane and Miguel snuck off to an obscure corner of the library to have a make out session.

Though it had only been a day since they were 'official', neither of them could keep their hands off of each other.

Demetri sighed, looking at Eli after Ayane and Miguel ran off.

"That could be us if we would stop being losers," Eli said, shaking his head.

Demetri scoffed. "We could very easily stop being losers. But we know our position in the world and respect it. We're losers because we choose to be."

Eli shook his head once more. He didn't care what Demetri said; he was sick of being bullied and pushed around.

Meanwhile Ayane and Miguel were... having a lot of fun.

'Fun' being that they were practically eating each other's faces off, but no one really gave a shit. Kids came into the library to do that all the time.

Miguel had Ayane pushed up against the wall, and he finally broke away from her.

"What's wrong?" she asked, tilting her head.

He shook his head with a smile. "Nothing. I just... have a question."

Ayane nodded. "Okay," she responded slowly, "ask away."

Miguel hesitated. "Have you- have you told your parents about... this?"

"No," she replied after a moment, "have you told your mom and grandma about this?"

He made a face. "...Yeah."

"Oh."

Ayane held a hand to her head, pushing her hair out of her face.

"Well, Miguel, it's not that it has anything to do with you. It's just that my parents would disown me if they knew how far you were sticking your tongue down my throat."

He laughed quietly, shaking his head. "Do you plan on telling them? Ever?"

She quickly nodded. "Of course. I just have to think of a way to do it that doesn't result in me getting punished."

Miguel's smile wavered a bit, and he found himself yet again wanting to ask about Ayane's parents and their strictness.

"We should probably get back," she sighed, "we were supposed to have found this book ten minutes ago."

He smirked, pushing off of her and grabbing the book off of the shelf beside him.

"Do you actually plan on reading that?" Ayane asked, taking the book from him. It was a copy of Shakespeare's Othello.

"Unfortunately, I have to," he replied as Ayane handed him back the book. "It's for my English class."

They walked around the corner, sitting down with Demetri and Eli at their table.

"Did you find everything okay?" Demetri asked, glancing between the two.

Ayane exchanged a look with Miguel, nodding. "Yeah, I'd say so."

Demetri rolled his eyes with a head shake.

"While I am happy for you both, I would like to remind you two that neither of you are ready for teen pregnancy."

"Demetri," Ayane glared at him, "no one is getting pregnant, okay? And besides, if I did, there's an abortion clinic two blocks down."

All three of the boys gave her a wide-eyed look.

Ayane rolled her eyes, closing her textbook. "Can we change the topic from pregnancy, please?"

"Good idea," Miguel cut in, clearing his throat.

At lunch, Yasmine kept sending dirty looks to Ayane. She finally noticed it after a few minutes, when Miguel pointed it out.

"I told you she's going to hate you forever," he leaned over and whispered.

Ayane laughed dryly, picking at her rice. "She won't be the first and she won't be the last. And if she wants to say something, she can say it to me personally."

Miguel shrugged, continuing to eat his food.

Little did Ayane know, Yasmine was creating more problems for her by the second.

After school, Ayane and Miguel walked to the dojo. It was becoming something of a routine thing.

"Tell me what you know about blocking," Ayane quizzed Miguel as they walked.

"Uh," he licked his lips, "you should do it."

She rolled her eyes, thumping the back of his head.

"Smart-ass. Tell me about the kinds of blocks you're supposed to do. Like," she turned so she was facing him, quickly throwing a strike close to his face.

Miguel swatted her hand away instinctively, surprising himself.

Ayane did the other arm, which he also deflected.

She smirked. "Not bad. I guess you have been learning some things."

Miguel furrowed his eyebrows, opening the door to the dojo.

"Are you forgetting how I laid you out last night, too?"

"I let you do that," she replied, giving a curt nod.

Miguel shook his head, looking to see Johnny walking out of his office.

"Sensei!" he said, running over. "My mom says I can do karate again."

Ayane stayed back at the entrance, leaning against the wall and watching.

In his arms, Johnny was holding a box. Miguel frowned.

"Are you shutting the dojo down?"

Johnny made a face, then after a moment replied, "Not as long as you're here. Let's get to it."

Ayane did not participate much today, but she observed. She had to admit that Johnny did know what he was talking about. And the way he taught was drastically different from her own sensei.

She was almost... jealous. Ayane and Mr. LaRusso did not do a lot of sparring, it was a lot of meditation and 'defense'. Only, Ayane did not like learning like that. She liked to hit things.

"Ayannie, come here," Johnny drew her out of her thoughts.

Rolling her eyes, she stood up and walked over.

"When are you going to learn my name?"

He gave her a look. "I do know your name, I just like pronouncing it this way. Now," he took her by the shoulders and placed her behind Miguel.

"I want you to attack Diaz from behind, catch him off guard. And Miguel, you try to get out of it."

She nodded, as that seemed easy enough. Miguel was facing away from the mirror, so he could not tell when she was coming.

Ayane waited a moment, then wrapped her arm around his neck and pulled Miguel down. He squirmed, trying to get out of her grip, but Ayane would not let up. He tried to tap her arm to get her to let go.

"There's no tapping out in karate!" Johnny said, walking around to face Miguel.

At once, Ayane released him, standing up.

Miguel laid on the ground for a moment, trying to catch his breath. Ayane peered over him, smiling.

"Were you trying to kill me?" he wheezed, taking deep breaths.

"It's called not being a pussy," Johnny replied for her. "Get up, let's go again."

Miguel closed his eyes for a moment, then pushed himself back up.

"Diaz, you attack this time. Let's see if Ayannie knows how to get out of this."

Ayane exchanged a look with Miguel as he walked around her. She shook out her arms, listening intently. She could hear his breathing. Ayane almost felt like she could sense him.

And when Miguel grabbed her from behind, Ayane knew exactly what to do. She hit away his right arm and slid from under him, turning back to Miguel.

Maybe Mr. LaRusso was teaching her something after all.

"Shit," she said out loud, "what time is it?"

She checked the time on her phone. She was going to be late to the LaRusso's.

"I have to go," she said, walking off the mat and pulling her shoes back on.

"Hey, kid," Johnny said. Ayane turned her head over to him.

He sighed, as if he were reluctant to say what he was about to say.

"You sure you don't wanna sign up for Cobra Kai?"

Ayane smiled. "I'd love to. Unfortunately, I can't be a member of two different dojos."

Johnny exhaled, looking at Miguel. The kid still needed a lot of work if he would be any good at the All Valley Tournament.

"Yeah, well you need to teach your boyfriend here how to slither."

Ayane's eyes went wide at the word. She turned her stare to Miguel.

"How did you know...?" she started.

Johnny smirked, nudging Miguel.

"This kid, of course."

Miguel gave her a sheepish smile. Ayane shook her head, walking over to him.

"Well then I guess you won't have to explain this." She quickly pecked his lips.

"I'll talk to you in a little bit," Ayane said, hurrying out of the dojo.

Miguel had a dumb smile on his face. Johnny could have snorted.

"You do realize you're going to have to fight your girlfriend, right?" Johnny said, pacing on the mat.

Miguel turned to him, frowning. "Huh?"

Johnny crossed his arms. "The All Valley. If we get a shot and get to compete, it's gonna come down to you and her at some point or another."

The Diaz boy did not like that. He continued to frown.

"There's not a girl's tournament and a guy's tournament?"

Johnny shook his head. "No. If you're apart of a dojo, you compete."

Miguel got a bad taste in his mouth. He didn't want to fight Ayane.

But the problem, yet again, was the stubbornness of both of them.

And they both wanted to win.
