― chapter 39.

❝ please just fuck off! ❞

AYANE FELT NAUSEOUS.

She stood there, right in front of them, watching as Miguel suddenly pushed Tory away and stepped back.

"No- no! This isn't right- I don't like you. I love Ayane-" Miguel turned, seeing Ayane standing in the doorway just then.

"Ayane-"

She turned around and walked away as quickly as she could. Ayane felt like she might throw up. She couldn't even think straight at the moment.

"Ayane, wait!" Miguel called after her, pushing through the mass of teenagers to try to get to her.

People turned their heads as Miguel yelled Ayane's name, wondering what was going on.

Ayane bumped into someone, looking up at seeing that it was Robby.

He looked down, noticing how pale and distraught she looked.

"What's wrong?" he quickly asked, frowning.

"Miguel..." Ayane trailed off, shaking her head as if trying to clear it from her memory.

They both looked up as Miguel ran into the living room.

"Ayane, can we please talk-"

"You need to back up," Robby cut in, standing in front of Ayane as Miguel approached her.

Miguel glared at Robby, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

"She's my girlfriend, not yours," Miguel snapped. "Now move."

Ayane could not even bring herself to look at him. She just wanted to go home, and maybe stay there forever.

"You should leave," Robby said to Miguel, crossing his arms.

Miguel suddenly shoved Robby, pushing him back into Ayane. She fell to the ground, and Miguel looked over with wide eyes.

"Ayane, I'm so sorry," he reached down to try to help her up, but Ayane pushed him back.

She got to her feet, giving him one last look before walking out of the house.

Miguel chased after her again, before Robby could try to get into with him. He rushed outside, trying to find Ayane.

He caught a glimpse of her familiar face disappearing around the corner, and Miguel followed. He was not exactly coherent at the moment, being that Miguel was completely drunk.

But he did know that he felt like a dick.

Ayane was walking toward the cars when Miguel spotted her.

"Ayane, please listen!" Miguel pleaded as he ran up to her, reaching out to grab her arm.

Ayane whipped around, smacking his arm away and pushing him.

"Don't fucking talk to me."

Miguel ignored that. "Tory came onto me. That's exactly what happened. I-I don't like her at all, okay? You- you have to believe me. Please."

Ayane looked up at him. Miguel could see the hurt in her eyes.

"I don't know if I can believe you, Miguel," she replied at once, her voice shaky. "I just- I don't want to talk to you right now."

"No," Miguel said, "I'm not letting you leave until we talk this out."

Ayane looked up at him and scoffed.

"You can't make me do anything, you asshole! So please just fuck off!"

Hearing the anger and hurt in Ayane's voice made Miguel's heart ache. He didn't know how to prove to her that Tory had kissed him, and not the other way around.

"You know, I got drunk before too. But you didn't see me going around and kissing other people! Actually, it was the exact opposite- I told you I fucking loved you!"

Miguel looked down at her and for a moment, tears brimmed in his eyes. Ayane scoffed, shaking her head.

"I do love you," he said quietly. "And I don't want to lose you."

"Maybe you should've thought of that before you guys kissed," Ayane replied bitterly, pushing past him.

Ayane walked back up to the house; she was just doing anything to get away from Miguel. He turned, watching her with a deflated feeling in his chest.

She stopped by the bar outside, staring at the alcohol for a moment. Ayane grabbed an entire bottle of vodka, ignoring the burn in her throat as she drank nearly half of it.

"Ayane, slow down!" Sam ran over, seeing how much Ayane was drinking.

Ayane looked over at Sam, giving her a challenging look.

"Just let me drink. I'm not in the mood tonight."

With the bottle still in her hand, Ayane walked off to drink some more in a place she wouldn't be bothered.

She sat in the corner of the living room, drinking as much as she could take. Ayane's mind felt foggy, but she did not care.

She stood up to find something else to drink, finally swiping a bottle of whiskey from the kitchen counter.

Ayane did not notice Robby approaching her, watching as Ayane tilted the bottle upward and drank.

"What did Miguel do?" Robby asked, frowning at her.

Ayane looked down at him, her eyes glazed over from drunkenness.

She began to laugh, shaking her head. Ayane set down the bottle and covered her face with her hands for a moment.

"This is a secret, so you can't tell anyone, okay?" she whispered, leaning toward Robby and throwing her hands on his shoulders.

"He kissed Tory," Ayane whisper-shouted, laughing again and leaning back. She grabbed the whiskey again, looking back over at Robby and seeing his shocked expression.

Ayane nodded slowly. "Yeah," she slurred, "can you believe it? I mean, I just... hey, is that Tory?"

She looked over Robby's shoulder just then, seeing Tory coming into the kitchen.

Robby watched as Ayane pushed off of the counter, approaching Tory. He did not even try to stop her, genuinely curious as to how this would go down.

Ayane grabbed Tory by her shoulder and the girl turned, looking Ayane up and down.

"Hey, bitch! You think it's funny that you kissed Miguel? Well, haha, I'm not laughing."

Before Tory could reply, Ayane continued, "You know what- no one even likes you, you fucking cunt! So far, your only personality traits are being overly aggressive, crazy, and a whore."

Ayane was expecting Tory to try and hit her, but she didn't. Tory glared at her, then stormed out of the kitchen.

Robby took Ayane gently by her shoulders, saying, "Maybe it's time to get you home."

"Home?" Ayane turned around, wide eyed. "I can't go back there. Oh no, I'm gonna be in deep shit!" Ayane slapped her hand to her forehead, shaking her head vigorously.

Robby dropped his head, sighing. He had to find Sam, too, because it'd probably take both of them to convince Ayane to leave.

"Come on, Ayane," he put his arm around the girl to steady her, dragging Ayane out of the kitchen.

Sam found them not too long after, seeing Ayane completely shitfaced.

"Shit," Sam said, frowning as she eyed Ayane. "My parents will freak if they see her like this."

Ayane looked up at Sam, fearful. She didn't want to screw things up with the LaRusso's.

She licked her lips, looking down at the ground for a moment.

Finally, she looked back up, saying, "Take me to my mom."

. . . .

NEITHER SAM OR ROBBY questioned Ayane, simply helping her into Sam's car and driving to the Cain residence.

Ayane was in no mood to be questioned, so she appreciated that they just agreed to help her.

"Will you be okay?" Sam asked, helping Ayane out of the car.

She nodded slowly, rubbing her eyes.

"Yeah. I'll- see you tomorrow."

Ayane tiredly walked up to the front door, hesitating for a long time before knocking.

A minute passed before anyone answered. Liana stood there, raising her eyebrows a little as she took in the hot mess that was Ayane.

Ayane drew in a breath, feeling nauseous already.

"Can I stay here for the night?"

Liana stared at Ayane for a moment longer, not saying anything for a long time.

At once, she stepped aside and allowed Ayane in.

"You know where to find a room," Liana said, but Ayane did not go in that direction.

"I'm just gonna crash on the couch," she replied dismally, entering the living room and throwing herself down on the couch.

Liana watched as Ayane fell asleep almost instantly, standing in the archway with her arms folded.

For a passing moment, Liana felt bad for her daughter. Not just bad, but guilty.

She dismissed it, going upstairs to her own room to get some sleep.

The next morning, Ayane woke up at around six. She sat up and looked around, trying to recall everything that had happened last night.

Her head was pounding. Ayane rubbed her eyes and looked at the table in front of her, furrowing her eyebrows.

There was a glass of water and two aspirin sitting there, which Ayane certainly knew she didn't put there.

Nonetheless, Ayane took the pills and drank the entire glass of water. She checked her phone, which was miles long with notifications. She seemed to have missed a lot last night.

"You're going to be late for school."

Ayane looked up, seeing Liana walking into the living room.

Hesitating, Liana sat down on the couch beside her daughter, folding her hands in her lap.

Ayane ran her hands through her hair, sniffling.

"I'm sorry for showing up unannounced. I just- didn't want the LaRusso's to see me like this."

She was expecting her mother to be mad, but Liana just nodded.

"I know. We all... we all make mistakes, though."

Ayane looked over at Liana, who stared at her hands in her lap.

Liana finally looked up, saying, "You've probably got time to shower, and some of your clothes are still here. I guess... I could take you to school, if you want."

For a moment, Ayane was unsure of how to respond.

"Um- yeah. Yeah, sure," Ayane stuttered in response, standing up. She walked off, going upstairs to get a shower.

An hour later, Liana was arriving at West Valley High School with Ayane in the passenger seat.

"Here's your old backpack," Liana said, handing Ayane her school bag from last year. Ayane took it, looking up at the school nervously.

She did not want to talk to Miguel, or even see him for that matter.

"Why did you get drunk last night?" Liana asked quietly.

Ayane glanced down, shrugging after a moment.

"I'm a dumb teenager. Thank you, though. I-I'll talk to you later."

Ayane got out of the car, her stomach turning nervously. She walked up to the steps and walked inside.

The first thing she did was go get her schedule, huffing as she saw her first class was Chemistry.

Ayane saw Robby and Sam in the hallway and she was about to walk over to them when the class bell rang.

She sighed, turning and walking away.

As Ayane walked into the classroom, she immediately froze up.

Miguel and Hawk were sitting right there, barely five feet away from her.

Miguel immediately looked down, folding his hands in front of him.

Ayane glanced away, trying to find a seat as far away from him as she could. She ended up sitting by Chris, who did not say anything as she sat down.

After class began, he leaned over and said, "You missed the cops last night."

Ayane looked over, raising her eyebrows. "Cops? Damn. They get anyone?"

Chris shrugged. "Not me. I think all the other Miyagi-Do kids got out, too. Why'd you leave early, anyway?"

Ayane glanced over at Miguel, who was sitting in front of her and to her right. She looked away, shaking her head.

"Drank too much."

The woman over the announcements droned on, though no one was really listening to her.

However, some commotion began happening over the intercom. Everyone looked up, frowning in confusion.

"Ayane Cain."

Ayane looked up with wide eyes, recognizing Tory's voice.

Everyone in the classroom turned to her. She sunk down in her seat a little.

"You wanted a fight," Tory continued, "and now, well- you're going to get one."

She paused, and everyone was staring at Ayane. Miguel looked at her, and she briefly met his eyes.

"I'm coming for you, bitch!"

The class bell rang. Ayane gathered her things, ignoring Chris' questions and everyone's looks. Her heart was racing as she left the room.

Miguel was not too far behind Ayane, trying to get to either her or Tory before something happened.

Ayane walked around the corner, looking everywhere for Tory. She had no idea where the girl was, afraid she might show up at any moment.

And then she saw her. Tory was walking straight toward her, and Ayane had never seen her look so pissed.

But Ayane was even more pissed. She had every right to be.

Ayane stopped when Tory stopped, standing a few feet away from her.

Kids surrounded them from all sides, watching what was about to unfold.

"What the hell is your problem?" Ayane said, trying to remain as calm as she could.

Tory tilted her head, scoffing. "You are my problem. You're always there to screw everything up."

Ayane gave her a look of disbelief.

"You kissed my boyfriend! How does that make me the problem?"

Robby was standing behind Tory now, turning his head and clenching his fists. If he saw Miguel, then that kid was dead.

"Yeah, I kissed Miguel," Tory said with a small smile.

"And now, I'm gonna get rid of the problem."
