Chapter Twenty Five
Class 1B woke up before the sun had risen and groggily made their way to the training camp to meet up with Class 1A. They followed Mr. Kan and stepped into an open clearing in the woods to see Class 1A already fast at work practicing with their quirks. According to Mr. Kan the goal was for them all to break themselves, by pushing their quirks to their breaking point. Kiyo spotted Shoto in a barrel of water rapidly using his left and right sides to work on both. He still hadn't been able to use both sides at once. Kiyo frowned as Mr. Aizawa approached them; he looked from her to Shoto.
She tensed, expecting him to ask her to help her brother but was surprised when he asked her to move further from the rest of the group so she could really let her quirk run wild without worrying about harming anyone.
Shoto looked up as his twin headed toward a plateau far away from everyone else. He jumped as Bakugo suddenly stopped his training exercise to scowl at Kiyo.
"HEY! You still owe me a fight!" Bakugo snapped.
"Since when?" Kiyo threw him a dark look.
"Since I got cheated out of it at the Sports Festival and had to fight the weak Icy Hot!" Bakugo growled.
"We're not doing sparring matches." Mr. Aizawa interrupted them before Bakugo could lunge for the girl.
Kiyo smirked at this, "that means they don't have anyone to bring you back from the brink of death when I decimate you." She turned on her heel and continued on her way to her training spot.
Shoto couldn't help but feel a little proud of his twin as she stood up for herself.
Mr. Aizawa sighed as Bakugo let out a roar of rage.
"What the hell did you say?!" Bakugo snarled.
"Get back to training." Mr. Aizawa rubbed his temples watching the younger Todoroki twin warily. After the Sports Festival many of the faculty became worried the girl was a ticking time bomb.
Kiyo reached her spot and activated both her quirks at once. A large mountain of ice ripped up from beneath her, rocketing her into the air as she expelled a massive ball of fire in the air above her. Similar to her move during the Sports Festival. Everyone paused their training to stare in wonder at her display. She launched the massive ball of fire into the air where it seemed to explode like a supernova. This time, her ice didn't melt from it and she maintained her position.
Shoto watched his twin for a moment, the last time she'd pulled that stunt, she'd nearly fainted. Now, she seemed unphased and was able to do it a second, third, fourth and fifth time before she started to look tired.
"Looks like you Class 1A losers need to catch up." Monoma goaded Bakugo and Shoto with a grin.
After a long day of grueling training they made it back to camp and were instructed to make curry. Kiyo and Shoto assisted everyone with getting the fires lit. Kiyo ended up next to Bakugo while prepping food and the two of them chopped vegetables rapidly. Bakugo seemed to be in competition with her while Kiyo was just lost in thought.
Shoto held back a chuckle as he realized his very robotic twin was spacing out and still able to chop vegetables in uniform pieces quicker than Bakugo. After a while, Bakugo realized Kiyo wasn't competing with him as he thought and he exploded with rage.
Kiyo turned to the hothead oblivious to why he was raging. "What?"
Bakugo clenched his fists, ready to snap.
"Kiyo!" Pony cheered as she skipped toward her with a plate full of carrots cut into cute flower petals. "I tried to make them how you did for that bento." She blushed as she extended the plate to Kiyo for inspection.
A small smile twisted onto Kiyo's lips, "they're perfect."
Bakugo paused as he noticed the smile on the usually stoic girls' lips. He'd never seen her make such an expression.
After a surprisingly good dinner with Bakugo and Kiyo taking charge of the food preparation, the girls all retreated to the hot spring. The class 1A girls mentioned one of their classmates had tried to creep on them the night before to which all of the class 1B girls laughed and said it wouldn't be a problem and looked to Kiyo who erected a massive wall of ice that stretched high up into the sky, blocking the boys bath from the girls bath. The ice was cloudy and impossible to see through causing all the girls to cheer.
"Are you feeling alright, Kiyo?" Kendo asked her curiously as Kiyo sat on the edge of the hot spring wrapped in a towel letting her feet dip into the steaming water. "Last time you did that power move, it took a lot out of you. You did it quite a few times today."
Kiyo frowned, "I feel fine."
Pony sat beside her with a smile, her hair wrapped in a cute familiar totoro printed wrap, the one Kiyo had bought her and used to wrap their bento. She reached out and touched Kiyo's cheek causing the stoic girl to gasp and tense up, why was she so close to her? "You don't feel as cold as before." Pony noted.
"Oh. That's good, I was kind of worried I'd hurt you when you hugged me." Kiyo admitted softly.
Pony beamed and threw her arms around her, "nope!"
Kiyo tensed and hugged her back hesitantly, a small smile ghosting her lips, "I'm glad."
"Hot." Tokage grinned and a few other girls nodded.
Kiyo rolled her eyes at her friends.
After everyone had soaked enough and began to head back inside, Kiyo dispersed her wall of ice and followed her classmates back inside. They retreated to the room they were to be sharing with the Class 1A girls and everyone went to their respective futons exhausted from their day of training.
Kiyo reached into her bag and retrieved the Totoro plush she'd gotten for Pony and handed it to her before retreating to her own futon feeling somewhat flustered. Pony let out a cute squeal and hugged the plush tightly before practically tackling Kiyo with a hug. Her foot hit the edge of the futon and she went careening toward the floor only to gasp as Kiyo caught her and swiftly swept her into her arms, away from harm.
"All in favor of being rescued by Kiyo?" Tokage snickered.
All of the girls raised their hands before erupting into a fit of giggles.
Kiyo sighed at her friends before meeting Pony's prussian blue eyes, "are you alright?"
Pony nodded. "Thank you for saving me and thank you for Totoro."
Kiyo smiled and gently set her on her feet, "you're welcome." She noticed Pony's hair had become a little mussed and reached out to fix it, "goodnight, Pony."
Pony's cheeks flushed scarlet, "g-goodnight." She grinned and dropped onto the futon next to Kiyo's.
The next day of training, the Wild Pussycats informed them they'd be hosting a test of courage for the two classes to compete with each other. After another grueling day of training everyone looked forward to the test of courage and when the time came, they were all excited.
"You class 1A losers are going down!" Monoma declared with a laugh.
"Remedial class students won't be participating." Mr. Aizawa sighed and dragged all the remedial class students away.
Class B was to be the scarers first and went to take their places. Pony giggled excitedly as she looped her arm with Kiyo's, "we get to be scary."
Kiyo smiled, she didn't have the heart to tell Pony she wasn't capable of being scary. "Let's do our best."
"Kiyo, could you make some scary ice sculptures?" Kendo asked.
"Sure." Kiyo cast out her hands and everyone shivered as jagged ice began to spring up all around them turning the forest into a haunted frozen wasteland. There were creepy frozen hands reaching out as if they were going to drag people into the frozen wasteland. There were eerie looking humanoid ice sculptures that were too tall or lanky and always seemed to be looking at anyone who could see them. There were frozen monsters with wicked sharp teeth and razor sharp claws, their toothy maws frozen in a silent snarl.
Pony shivered and took a step closer to Kiyo.
"Okay, I think that's plenty scary." Komori yelped.
Everyone spread out to take their places to try and scare class 1A as they made their way down the path. Pony looped her arm through Kiyo's with a smile as they found a good spot to hide. Once they found a suitable location, Pony released her from her hold and went to hide behind a tree.
"Can you make my horns look scary?" Pony asked with a smile.
Kiyo smiled and reached up to place her hands on Pony's horns causing ice to branch out looking almost like spider webs clinging to her horns. Pony grinned and resumed her hiding ready to jump out. Kiyo hid behind another tree a few paces away deciding she'd wait for Pony's lead.
A twig snapped behind them and Pony let out a gasp. "Who are yo-?" She began but cut off as Kiyo appeared before her with a jagged ice blade in hand to face off against the intruder.
Kiyo tensed as she recognized her older brother, standing before her. "What are you doing here?"
Dabi smiled as he saw how fiercely his baby sister was protecting the blonde girl. He wanted to offer her some reassurance but he couldn't as he wasn't alone. Pony let out a gasp and Kiyo turned with her blades at the ready, slashing at the man before her as she saw the light fade from Pony's eyes. Her ice blade slashed the man's shoulder tearing through his bright yellow coat and meeting resistance as it cut into the flesh of his shoulder.
"Pardon the intrusion, young lady, but we'd like you to come with us." The man in the long yellow coat, wearing a top hat with his face entirely concealed by a mask bowed politely as he gently set Pony on the ground after she'd fallen from consciousness. His voice sounded strained from the pain of her attack.
Kiyo stared at Pony's unconscious form, her heart racing sporadically in her chest, her blood rushing, pounding loudly in her ears. "Get your filthy hands off her!" She snarled and lunged, slashing fiercely with her blades.
The man in the yellow coat stumbled back, he brought up the cane he was holding to try and block her swings only to gasp as her blades of ice easily sliced right through his cane. "Dabi!" He panicked.
Dabi lunged forward grabbing Kiyo by the waist and pulled her into him so he could try to immobilize her. His heart stilled as she turned her glowing orbs in his direction, a rage unlike any he'd seen before clouding her gaze. "Calm down." He breathed against her ear. "She's not dead."
Kiyo's body shook with rage. "No, but he will be." She snarled and blinding blue hell fire lunged for the man in the yellow coat.
The man in the coat let out a panicked yelp and leapt away from the fire. "Knock her out!" He hopped away once more as the flames followed him.
Dabi swore under his breath, "sorry, baby sister. You're going to have to trust me." He breathed softly before striking a pressure point at the base of her neck.
Kiyo stubbornly fought to stay conscious as she continued lashing out at the man in the yellow jacket who'd hit Pony. "You're dead!"
"EEP!" The man in the yellow jacket. "Dabi! Do something!"
"I'm trying!" Dabi snapped and struck another pressure point.
Kiyo's flames began to falter as her vision slowly began to fade. "No." She struggled to cling to consciousness, "Pony." Her hand reached out for the unconscious blonde.
"She won't be hurt." Dabi breathed softly so only she could hear.
Kiyo slipped from consciousness sagging into her eldest brother's arms.
The man with the cane now in two pieces, Mr. Compress as Dabi knew him, landed at his side with a sigh of relief, "he's sure he wants this one too? She's kind of scary." He brushed some dust off of himself.
Dabi sighed, Shigaraki had seen her display at the Sports Festival, most of the world did. It had brought up a lot of questions about Endeavor's character, not that anything would come of it. After the Hosu incident everyone else seemed to completely forget about it. After seeing her rage and her power, Shigaraki was determined to try and get her onto his side along with the hot headed blonde from Shoto's class, Katsuki Bakugo. "He's sure. Use your quirk." Dabi swept Kiyo into his arms and waited.
Mr. Compress gently pressed a hand to her forehead and Kiyo's form vanished, replaced by a tiny aquamarine marble that she was currently trapped inside of. Dabi caught the marble and tucked it into his pocket, "I'll keep hold of this one, you get the other one."
