Chapter 3: The New Kid

It's just another day at school. Same classes, same homework, same friends. I claim my desk, setting my books down. Taking a seat on the hard, cold chair, I shiver. If I'm here so much, why can't they make warmer, comfier chairs? I sigh, opening my biology book. I wish I could just go home and sleep, but this is only third period. At least lunch is in only an hour. Drumming my fingers impatiently on the lesson page, I wait for the teacher to arrive. I don't know why I always show up on time. Mr. Herrera is perpetually late, every day, by at least ten minutes. Oh well. I don't bother trying to talk to anyone. None of my friends are in this class. Just acquaintances. As the thought develops, a new face enters the room. I know he's new because I would remember such a gorgeous person. He's almost six feet tall, with pale skin, curly brown hair, and burnt caramel colored eyes. Hesitantly, he makes his way to the desk in front of me. I smile at him, as his eyes skim over me. He smiles back. Or at least tries to, he practically emits nervousness.

"Hey, you probably don't want to sit there." I lean forward, tapping his shoulder gently.

He turns around to acknowledge me, looking very shy. I smile, as another guy comes up. The new kid happened to sit in his chair. Oh crap, I'm too late.

"Move it pipsqueak." The guy, who I recognize as Peter, growls at the new kid.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know." The new kid stutters, getting up and out of Peters way.

"If you sit there again, I'll have to teach you a lesson." Peter threatens, then seats himself at his desk.

"You can sit here." I offer the seat to my left.

The new kid nods gratefully and moves to claim it. In an instant, the new kid is sprawled out on the floor. The whole class bursts into a fit of snorts and giggles. Before I realize what I'm doing, I'm kneeling beside him. I grab one of his clammy hands and help him to his feet.

"You're such an ass, Peter." I glare at Peter.

"Yeah, but at least I don't look like you." He smirks at me, as I help the new kid to his seat.

I ignore him, going back to my desk.

"Don't listen to him, I think you're beautiful." The new kid whispers across the aisle, smiling shyly.

"What's your name?" I ask, trying to hide the hot blush that rises in my cheeks.

"Shawn. What's yours?"

"Shannon."

"My favorite name."

"You're so cheesy."

"You're so pretty."

"When did this conversation start?"

"When you helped me off the ground."

"Were you staring at my boobs?"

"No, I was staring at your eyes."

"What color are they then?" I squeeze my eyes shut.

"Brown, with green accents."

"Damn, are you always this honest?"

"Honesty is attractive, is it not?"

"Of course it is, but usually guys aren't this open. Are you gay?"

"Do you think I'm gay after I called you beautiful?"

"I don't know yet, I just met you. Are you?"

"Only for you."

"Damn stop flirting so hard." I laugh, ignoring the glare Peter throws at me.

"I can't help it!" Shawn laughs too, a cheeky smile painting his lips.

"Then you'd better get that checked. I don't want you flirting with another girl."

"Oh really? And why is that?"

"I'll get jealous."

"Ah, so am I your new crush?"

I just wink and slip him a note with my number.

"Call me tomorrow, after I've thought this through."

That was two years ago; Shawn and Shannon started dating a month later. They're engaged now.

This imagine was written for @Shannon1300 (Sorry this is late and kinda short, but I hope you enjoyed it)
