#13 THE...wait hes taken?
"I dont know what all the fuss is about." i state while ignoring the glare from my sister.
"YOU dont understand?!?" she flared her arms wide. "what about me?! your getting MARRIED. i don't even know the man. i don't think you know the man! and now you tell me he is coming over today to 'talk' about wedding dates." eventually she made her way closer. tears streamed down her face until she threw her arms around my neck and started sobbing hysterically.
"shhhh. hey, its okay. " i hugged her back. "its fine. your going to be fine." I hushed her as the door swiping open.
"m-oh i think this is a bad time." zane stopped his entry in the room. "i'll come back."
...................ZANE...............
i slowly close the door while backing out the room.
"well where is she?" alexander practically yelled when i entered the kitchen again.
"she is having a moment....she just needs a minute." i answer slouching on the door frame.
"well an you get her to hurry up?" he snapped and then looked back at his phone. i took a step closer to him, intending to knock some sense into him when i heard her voice.
"zane?" i turn to see angel with her head stuck out the door.
"im coming." i sigh and turn away from alexander and then make my way to moriah. "what is it?"
"its Rebekah..." she started while slipping out the door and closing it behind her. "he wants to meet him." she pointed at alexander who was siting at the table.
"I don't think-" I started
"Please, zane." She grabbed my arm. "Please." She shook my arm in her grasp forcing me to make eye contact.
Frick.
"Fine, go get her. I'll explain to alex not to mention anything arranged or mafia." I state. She nodded excitedly and slipped into the her bedroom door again.
"Please zane please." I heard someone say from behind me. I turn on my heal to see joab, his hands clasp together in a mocking manner. "Your so whooped." He laughed dropping his hands.
"Go find something to be productive," I order the turn back to the kitchen to have a talk with Alexander.
After I explained what alexander can and can't mention, we allowed Rebekah to meet him. His charming facade was back up as he talked to the sisters in the most delightful was possible. He laughed and joked for almost an hour before we decided it was time for Rebekah to go with joab.
"Ok down to business." I say leaning back in my kitchen chair. "The wedding date"
"Well I don't seem to be doing anything for the next....however long I'm stuck here." Moriah joked.
"Next week." Alexander said abruptly. My hand slipped on my pen clicking but I quickly covered it up as I set the pen down. One side glance at Moriah was telling me that she was freaking out. She swallowed then folded her hands in her lap looking down.
"So then it's settled." Moriah said. Blinking a few times them putting back on her business face.
"Wonderful. We shall be married next Friday. That will give you eight days until the wedding." Alexander scooted his chair back and buttoned his suit vest. "I will send you the details and I already have everything set up so don't worry about anything. You just have to show up and look pretty. Invite anyone you want." He moved around the table and grabbed the back of her chair, in one swift motion he placed a kiss on her cheek.
the motion seemed to have no affect on Moriah, but the slight spark in her eyes and the way her finger wrapped in her hair as if she wanted to pull it out suggested that if he hadn't backed away so quickly he would probably have a black eye.
"I will see you next Thursday night for the rehearsal." he stated then walked out of the room and out of sight. the slam of a door confirmed that he had left.
"im going to need a minute." Moriah said looking down at the table.
"alright, angel." I shot her a wink and left the room.
next week?
who the Frick does he think he is?
my anger uncontrollable I make my way outside hoping to catch up to Alexander. I just about to him when I stopped suddenly at the sound of a voice.
"yes, dad, I got it under control!" someone yelled from around the corner. it didn't take a much to know it was Alexander. I step back and listen from behind a bush.
"yes dad. I know. I know the fate of the company relies on a heir from the mafia blood. what do you mean a problem?! there is no problem! so she doesn't want to have a physical relationship. once she is my wife she will be under MY control. I could give you as many grandkids as you want.
"so what if she thinks this marriage is temporary? she won't be ale to leave if she has a kid and that secures our fate. trust me father, once we are wed then she will be under my control and there will be no escaping."
I made a move to get up so I could beat the living out of him until a firm grip landed on my shoulder. with a swift turn I flipped the person to the ground but was surprised to see it was just joab.
he held a finger to his lips telling me to be quiet. before I could yell at him the sound of a car leaving was ringing through my ears. I jump to my feet just in time to see Alexander pull out the gate.
"I pegged him for a lair from the beginning." Joab mumbled from behind me, dusting the dirt off his pants. I balled my fist and punched Him across the jaw. Joab's head snapped to the side as he fell back to the ground.
"If you hadn't stopped me I would be giving Alexander a lot more than what I just gave you." I growled debating on punching him again.
"BUT." Joab started rubbing his jaw. "He would have know you were onto him. You would have killed him And there goes our best way of getting the western mafia in our grasp."
"There are other people out there who she could marry." I state.
"Yah? Who?" He smirked.
"I don't know but we could find someone better than Alexander." I spit at the mention of his name. Bending over I offer Joab my hand to help him up.
"What about you. You obviously like the girl." He accepted my hand and in one swift pull was back on his feet.
Don't kid yourself zane, you've thought about it.
"Because." Was all I answered.
"Oh heck no." Joab said. "You just punched me, so I think I deserve a better answer than that."
"Your not getting one."
"The heck I am!" He said crossing his arm in front of him.
"No."
"Yes." He rolls his eyes.
"Fine you wanna know why?!" I growl.
"That's what I've been saying..." Joab cut in before I could continue.
"Fine! It's because I'm already engaged ok!? Her name is Veronica and we've been engaged for the last two years."
...................
4 days has passed since Alexander had paid us a visit and I was still a little mad over his statement. I had shut everyone out only focusing on a solution to my problem. I could cut off Alexander and send him scattering away faster than the dog that he is, but that would mean me finding a replacement for him. 4 days and I still hadn't found anyone who I think would accept to Moriah terms.
Things were definitely going to change for her...and not for the better.
.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.moriah.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.*.
"'Relax and watch a movie' they say 'we won't bother you' they say." I grumble standing from my spot on the couch. I can't even scroll through Netflix without people knocking on the door.
"Joab hamada if this is you doing your knock knock ditch again then I you won't eat my cooking for the next-" I threw the door open and stopped mid sentence. Before me stood the most gorgeous looking woman I had ever seen. Her hair was dark brown with multiple pink strips running through the tips. Her dark eyebrows accented her face perfectly. Almost as perfectly as her makeup.
She wore light denim shorty shorts and a red tube top with a denim jacket matching her shorts thrown over to protect her from the cold.
"Who are you?" She spat and moved past me and into the room, practically shoving me over in the process.
To bad a pretty face doesn't always match the personality.
"Zane! Joab! Help!" I yell stepping back and stare in horror as the perfectly random girl walks into our secret zoo apartment. Zane was the first on scene and the look of horror on his face outnumbered mine, but not for the same reason.
"Veronica! What are you doing here?" Zane said in complete shock.
"You know her?" I say closing the door.
"Zaney." She said peeling off her jacket and then biting her lip in the most seductive manor. "Did you miss me?" She strutted up to him lacing her arms around his neck. "I've missed you"
"Ver-" Zane stopped short when she pulled his face down to hers and pressed her lips on his. His arms looped around her waist and slowly pushed her down. " veronica, What are you doing here." He tried again.
"Well...I figured it has been a while since I've seen you." She said pressing her lips against his neck.
Did they forget I am here?
The only way out of the room was past them and so I slowly inched my way to the couch and acted like I wasn't paying any attention.
"Mhm." Was all zane could reply and he closed his eyes letting her lips continue.
Who ever this is they are clearly used to this behavior.
"Ohhhhh..." Joab said walking in the room. Zane head turning to look at his best friend but the girl, I guess her names Veronica, Paid him no mind. "why dont you take this elsewhere? hmm?"
"oh that's sounds wonderful." Veronica practically moaned. zane shot a glare at joab before nodding his head at veronica. he wrapped one hand around her waist and led her out of sight.
...........ZANE.............
I shut the bedroom door slowly debating how to handle this.
"So where've you been?" I ask rubbing the back of my neck.
"Paris this last month. Figured it was time to come back and see my fiancé. Aren't you happy?" She giggled and sat on the bed.
"Mhm." I say with a blank face.
"'Mhm'?" She asked confused. "Okay. Who was she?"
"Who?"
"Don't play dumb. The beautiful blonde who is sitting on your couch!" She crossed her arms in front of her.
"That's not something you need to know." My male pride slips in. If she thinks that I'm cheating on her then I might as well let her think that, it's not like I care. I know why she was in Paris, and it wasn't for a vacation.
"Zane." She said too calm. "I don't care." She struts toward me with a grin. "As long as you don't not to hide it from me."
Her answer sent 1000 questions to my head, but I held my tongue.
.................................
Veronica just left and I wore a grin as I waltzed into the kitchen. What I saw made my grin evaporate. Angel stood by the table cutting vegetables, tears streaming down her face.
Once she caught me looking she used her free hand and wiped her tears away. Without saying anything I moved to her side. Grabbing a spare knife I assisted her in cutting the vegetables.
"Do you know the definition of marriage?" She asked but I didn't answer because I knew she wasn't looking for an answer. "My parents would tell me, 'marriage is the joining of 2 people before God. It's a promise to have and to hold forever.' It's something that a person is never supposed to go back on.Your not supposed to marry a person with the idea to leave them 2 years later."
The room went quiet as we finished with the vegetables and then started adding them to a pan. The silence continued before I decided it was time to offer my opinion.
"Your God, Isn't he supposed to love everyone? No matter what they do?" I start and she shook her head yes. "Then he will understand."
"That's not what bothers me." She says working at the stove. "What bothers me is the fact that I know when I say the vows. It will become a promise, but not one I am intending to keep."
"So your worried about a promise? Maybe you'll like Alexander? What if you decide you do want to spend the rest of your life with him?" I reason with her knowing fully that Alexander is not who she was intended to live forever with.
"I never thought of it like that." She says her back to me while she worked. "Thank you for the help, Zane."
"Anytime angel." I say placing a hand on her shoulder before slowly backing out of the room, leaving her alone with her thoughts.
