#2 THE HELPLESS
I step out of the zoo gates and stretch my arms high. swinging the rental car keys around my finger, i clicked the button to unlock it. Nothing. i didn't hear a sound.
Opening my eyes i panicked. The car wasn't here.
" hurry up! we are going to be late-wait wasn't the car right here?" Joab asks and i simply nod wondering what i was supposed to do.
"now what?" Joab asks and i comb my brain for what to do next.
"Well you call a cab, tell him to pick us up a few blocks away so he doesn't know where we live. i will take a look around and see if i can find something." I order joab and he nods pulling out his phone.
I walked over to where i parked the car and look around for anything. Footprints, trash, or anything else that would help me catch the person who stole our car.
A piece of paper was taped to the ground. Dirt covers the words. I bend over and pull the paper off the ground. Dusting off the dirt i read the words aloud.
"Check inside the gates." I read and joab looks at me, his phone pressed to his ear. Joab ends the call and we both walk back inside. After looking around for a solid 5 minutes I gave up.
"It's a trick. let's go look for something else." I snap and walked back towards the large gates.
"Wait look!" Joab says pointing towards a patch of bushes. I look closer and sport a small piece of black metal showing. I inched closer and turned around the bush coming face to face with 2 motorcycles. One of black color and the other one of a grey theme.
I ran my hand over the seat of the black bike. A yellow sticky note was stuck on the gas tank.
Hope you guys like....didn't think I would send you guys out without a nice ride, did ya? Stay safe. - hunter.
" aren't we supposed to be discrete? Undercover?" Joab asks clearly confused.
"I ain't complaining," I said and revved up the bike.
"That would be the first," Joab mumbled but I heard him. I shrugged him off and pulled on my helmet I secured my leather backpack on my back. We rolled the bikes out of the zoo locking the gates behind us. With a simple nod, we sped off toward the school.
..........................................
"i have to admit i expected a normal school....i didn't see this coming." joab says as he pulls off his helmet. we had parked at the back of the school parking lot since we really shouldn't be seen together.
"i know i expected a brick building with white trim and busses lined up along the side," i answer. the building was painted black and even from the back of the parking lot, you could see the chips revealing a grey undercoat. the windows were only partially broke leaving boards covering the broken glass. shingles on the roof were missing. the parking lot wasn't even paved it was straight rock.
"well we have a few minutes before class...we might as well find our classes." i shrugged and joab nodded.
"see you after school, boss," with that he walked off into the sea of old cars.
i sighed and continue towards in the building, the gravel slipping beneath my feet. upon entering i am met with a world of chaos. kids rushed around to different lockers. i pulled my hood up on my leather jacket and start to drown everyone out.
after going to the office and getting my schedule and locker number i rush to my locker.
*crash*
a loud bang echoes through the hallway. everyone turns to look but no one moves. the hallway was silent.
"Oops, did i knock you down again?" i find the source of the voice. 2 guys stood their backs towards me. book scattered at their feet. "my my...i believe you walked into me yesterday, and the day before...and the day before."
"Please just go away," i heard a small voice whisper. i moved over to where I could get a closer look.
"Listen here, church girl, i suggest you watch where you are going in the future." the other bully said.
church girl?
who are they talking to?
the two boys let out a short laugh while the bigger one kicks a book across the hall. the crash from the book hitting a locker makes people around us flinch...then they both move along.
once the boys move i could see it. a girl sat on her knees. she picks up her books slowly as her blonde hair falls in her face making her unrecognizable. she had a pair of glasses on her nose. she looked...broken. A silent tear ran down her face as I watched.
People like this I didn't understand. If they had stood up for themselves this could be fixed. I shook my head and continued searching for my locker. Let's see...
Locker 15
Locker 14
Locker 13
I finally see my locker, the only problem was that the blonde from earlier is sitting right in front of it, still picking up her books. Her golden blonde hair still in her face.
I pull my hoodie farther and walk towards my locker. Upon approaching the girl she looks up. Her hair slowly falls out of her face. Her blue eyes looked at me, filled with.... hope. I don't say anything as I go to my locker. Never making eye contact.
I slowly inch behind her letting all of her hope fall. Crushing her dreams of someone helping her. I paid no mind as I try to unlock my locker but it doesn't work. I try again but it doesn't open. I let out a groan as I laid my head on the cold metal.
*bang*
I jump when a loud sound happens a few inches from my head. I back up looking around. A small fist rests inches from my head. I follow the arm until I see her face. Her eyes have changed from a few seconds ago. They aren't the same hopeful broken eyes. They show many emotions but strengh was clearly involved.
I slowly back up giving her room. She simply walks over and pushes in the top right corner. The locker pops then slowly creaks open.
"Lockers here work like the people." She said her eyes staring at my chest. "They need a little trick to help them open up." With that she turned, disappearing into the crowd of people.
..........................................
All-day has been hectic luckily I am in my last class. The teachers don't know what they are talking about. The kids ask questions and the teachers don't know. I have been here hours and I know how this school works.
It's like any other school I have attended. you have your social classes, But they aren't what I expected. On top is your bullies, they are usually the people who look like they live in a garbage can.
Then you have your popularity class who still gets picked on but doesn't mind. The popular kids look like street gangs leather jackets and tattoos. Cigarettes in their pockets.
Then you have your dumb class. They are the kids who make no sense. They flirt with everyone. They like to show off. They think they run the school but they don't. They usually sit in the second row so they can throw paper airplanes at the teachers or pull the hair of the person in front of them.
Then you have your misfits. The people who show up to school because it required. The kids who are quiet. They don't have friends. They don't do their homework. They don't have any hope. They just flow throughout their lives not caring.
The bell rings bringing my attention to the teacher. The class just started and the teacher was currently asleep. Every seat in the class was filled with excitement. People laughing and going on through life. The only row that it seemed no one cares was the row I'm sitting. Out if the whole room, the only stop where no onezs sitting was either in the second row or the seat to the right if me.
I study the people around me. Looking for clues about the mission. So far I haven't found anything. No sign of twins or triplets.
The door slowly creaks open revealing a girl. My eyes widen as it was the blonde from before. Her eyes scan the room. She doesn't look for the empty spot instead she is looking at people's faces. Her eyes and on me and she stops for a second before continuing on.
She starts walking towards me and I hold my breath. She then stops at the desk in the second row. I let out a sigh of relief as she wasn't going to sit by me.
Her head hung low as she slowly took out her phone. The guys around her keep whispering stuff but she doesn't do anything. She ignored them her head hung low. Grabbing a pair of headphones out of her bag she slipped them on. Drowning out the world.
.......................1week later...............................
I groan as I sit down in the last class after another day of pure torture. I could teach better than the actual teachers. I have figured out nothing. I haven't found anything yet. Nothing that could help me complete this mission.
The last class was by far my favorite. The teacher was always asleep or playing on his phone. He never taught us anything. Probably because he didn't know anything.
Then she walked in. Every day she is bullied. Every day she comes back. She never talks to anyone. She just sits down puts in her headphones and does homework.
Today she does what she always does. She scanned to room for who was sitting where not where the empty seats were. Today like always she scanned over me and headed towards the second row. the boys around her started whispering again. probably getting their insults ready.
Her delicate frame inches closer with her head down, she was clearly talking herself up for the verbal beating she was about to get.
I don't know why but I feel bad for her. She doesn't fight back. She never does. She just accepts it. Maybe that's why I suddenly stood up. Maybe that's why I find myself walking in her direction. I don't know why but I rush to the second row and sit down where she usually does.
Her eyes look at me. I don't go anything at first but then I look at her with a smirk.
"this seats is taken. Maybe try back there." I said pointing my thumb over my shoulder. I look at her searching for a reaction. Maybe...just maybe I saw a slight smile. It didn't last long but I think I saw one. She slowly makes her way to the back. I don't turn to see. But I already know that she is listening to her music and doing her homework.
.......................................
Two weeks. I have been here two weeks. I don't have anything. I don't know anything about my mission. I certainly haven't learned anything at this so-called school.
Like the last week, I have sat in the second row in the last class. Like what happens every day. She walks in looks around then offers me a small grin before going to the back of the class.
I haven't really looked at her yet. The only thing I know for sure us that she had blue eyes, wears glasses and is extremely shy.
Today I watch as she comes in. Her face was red and her eyes were puffy. Her nose looks like it had been rubbed multiple times. She always looks broken but today she looks shattered.
She made her way to the back without a glance in my direction. I could hear her slump into the chair. The boys around me whisper and point making me frown.
"Hey, you." I say to the guy sitting next to me. They all stopped and turned to me fear on their faces. "that girl...whats her problem?"
"who church girl? " the one in the back laughs. "i heard that they broke her headphones today."
"who?" I say playing along,
"i think the miller twins did it." the one on the other side of me whispers. The mention of twins sparked my interest.
"twins? Which twins? I haven't seen any twins here."
"they don't look alike, but you would know them if you saw them." one guy says.
"They like to pick on her. Usually, they just knock her over or push her books but today I guess she said something and they grabbed her headphones and then they snapped them in half." one whispers like he was a kindergartener telling a secret.
interesting. The bullies are twins.
.........................................
The base was ecstatic that I had found some twins. But then again. There are dozens of twins around. How do I know these are the ones?
I sent in paperwork to see if the Miller twins could give any chance of being the people I am looking for but until I get it back I can't do anything.
So instead today I am on a different plan. I lean against my locker until I hear it.
*crash*
I hear the sounds of books falling and I follow the sound. Like always people continue in not saying anything. Not helping.
"better watch out next time, church girl." one Miller twin says then they walk off like always.
I watch as she sighs and gets down on her knees. Walking around I pick up the books with her.
"w-what are you doing?" she mumbles while freezing.
"picking up your books." I shrug.
"you shouldn't help me." she whispers not moving.
I don't answer I just keep helping. No one around notices.
Once I have gathered the rest of the books I motion to her locker.
"maybe we should put some off these away?"
"i-uh-yah." she says scurrying to a locker I assumed was hers.
She opens it and starts putting the books she doesn't need inside. Turning to me I hand her a stack of books.
I watch her intently as she turns her back. Then I disappear I had completed my task. Mostly.
Watching from a distance she turns around ready to talk but then her smile fades. She looks around but doesn't say anything. A look of disappointment overtakes her features as she slams her locker. She walks the other direction until she enters a classroom out of sight.
An evil smile covers my face as I walk towards her locker. I put in the code that I watched her enter. I pushed the locker a little then the door pops open.
I place the box inside then close it up, heading to my first class.
.................................
What do you think of this chapter...i know it's long and probably boring but I liked it... it didn't want the wattpad meeting. I didn't want the white night in shining armor. I didn't want them bumping into each other and he catches her. Or her falling for her ceo. It's cliche and although I LOVE cliches I didn't want that. I wanted something different. You tell me what you think.
What did he put in the locker!?
Are the miller twins who they are looking for?
Who is the shy girl?
😳😳😳😳😳
Your girl,
