One standout aspect of this novel is its narrative style, which utilises the first person, present tense. This choice offers a refreshing change of pace, especially when compared to the often convoluted multi-point-of-view narratives that tend to dominate the platform. Such stories frequently leave readers grappling with the perspectives of various, often indistinct, characters, making it difficult to engage fully with the narrative.

The descriptive language in the opening chapter is particularly striking, with vivid imagery that draws readers into the story's world. The opening scene unfolds in a way that captivates the senses, painting a clear picture that allows readers to visualise the events as they occur. I have always maintained that stories resonate most when readers are plunged into the heart of the action. Although this book takes a different route, its high-quality writing is what truly captures my interest as a reader, transcending the need for immediate excitement in the opening moments.

However, there are minor inconsistencies in the text where the author has inadvertently pressed the enter key too late, resulting in clumsy breaks in the paragraph formatting. These occurrences are infrequent and have little impact on the overall enjoyment of the reading experience.

As I immersed myself in the first chapter, I felt a sense of detachment from the main character during the initial paragraphs. Establishing an early connection is crucial; I believe it is essential for readers to learn the character's name early on to foster a sense of intimacy. At this stage, the main character's identity remains shrouded in mystery, leaving us unaware even of their gender.

To further strengthen this connection, I would suggest weaving in the character's inner thoughts and emotions throughout the narrative. This insight is vital for cultivating empathy and understanding between the reader and the protagonist. Additionally, enriching the text with sensory details could significantly enhance the imagery. What does the main character notice in their surroundings? What sounds resonate in the air, and what scents waft through the room? While the chandelier overhead is mentioned, the story could greatly benefit from a vivid description of the wallpaper's intricate patterns and the carpet's texture beneath the character's feet. Are there unique ornaments adorning the shelves? Perhaps striking pictures hang on the walls that offer glimpses into the character's life?

Incorporating these detailed observations and suggestions could profoundly deepen the reader's connection with the main character and elevate the overall narrative, ultimately drawing in a broader audience.
