Bonus chapter • Dray 12
Unseen chapter. This is Spencer's parents wedding!
D R A Y T O N S • P O V
I don't know who's idea it was to have a beach wedding in the middle of summer. It's good in theory, I mean, you couldn't do it in the middle of winter, but it is fucking hot.
"At least we didn't have to wear suits." Grayson mentions from beside me.
"I wouldn't have come."
The two of us are sat in the second row of white, fold out chairs. I decided to wear a white button up shirt, the sleeves rolled up to my elbows and a pair of black chinos. It's as dressed up as I could get without cooking in a fucking tux. Grayson is dressed in a similar outfit, but he's gone with a blue shirt and white pants.
I have to admit, it's an incredible setting. The area that we're in, is secluded, large cliff faces surround the sand, the waves of the ocean create a soothing sound but they're not wild and strong. There's a wide archway that's erected at the front. It's made up of tropical flowers and white wood. The priest and Nicołàs wait up front while a portable speaker hums a soft classical tune. As far as the guests go, there aren't a huge amount of people here. Friends and family of the bride and groom for the most part.
The music switches to a remade version of the wedding march. It's a softer sound and it matches the scene far more than the classic church organs. Everyone turns in there seats as the bridesmaids start a slow walk up the middle of the 'aisle'. Spencer is first of course, her bump is well and truly protruding now and I almost burst out laughing at her little waddle. She's on the arm of a groomsman that I don't recognise. They're all friends of Nic's who travelled from California for the event. A friend of Camilla's follows next and then the most beautiful girl here, appears last.
She looks perfect in her bridesmaids dress. The fabric licking at her legs as it dances with the breeze. She's perfection.
Her hair falls in soft curls around her gorgeous face and I watch her walk with a wide smile, choosing to ignore the male that's got his arm linked around hers. I can't lie though, I don't love seeing her walk up an aisle with someone that isn't me.
Her elated grin widens as she passes our row and she gives me a small wave.
Before she's out of reach, I lean over and pinch her butt, cackling when she looks over her shoulder with a dropped jaw. She can't stop the flow of things though, so she keeps going and then takes her place at the front, giving me a subtle glare from where she stands. I can see the amusement in her eyes though.
When I glance back again, Camilla is being walked up the aisle by who I assume is her father. I remember Spencer mentioning that he lives about seven hours out of town, so he doesn't get here a lot due to his old age. From the smile on his face, it's safe to assume that he's glad to be apart of this ceremony.
Even the bride is dressed for the beach, her white dress sits at her knees and her feet are bare as they sweep through the sand. She looks great and it's not hard to see that Nicolàs feels the same way.
The priest begins and to be honest, I barely listen to a word that he says. I'm too busy staring at the goddess that I get to call mine. She's standing, hanging on to every romantic word that comes out of the bride and grooms mouths as they recite their vows. She swipes at the tears that fall on to her cheeks, her attention is one hundred percent absorbed by the promises and declarations that are being shared.
One day, that'll be her and I. Sharing vows, exchanging rings, making promises. I'm not sure that she knows how serious I am about making her my future. Sometimes I think that she's worried that what we have is temporary. Reserved for high school or not able to survive the long distance that she thinks we'll be doing.
She has no idea that I accepted a scholarship to UCLA, which allows us to spend college closer together than we'd originally planned. I'd decided to keep it a secret, despite Grayson convincing me that it's a terrible idea. This is the last time that I'm gonna mess with her and mess with her good. She's going to flip, she might even punch me in the nose. It'll be worth it to surprise the hell out of her.
"I now pronounce you, husband and wife. . again," the priest states, snapping me out of the wandering thoughts about how I could propose to Dallas one day. "You may kiss your bride."
A series of cheers and applauds fills the air, people standing from their seats as Camilla and Nicolàs embrace in a passionate kiss, which ultimately, seals the deal.

"Do you wanna dance babe?"
"Not really."
Grayson glances down at Spencer, who's reclined in her seat with a large bowl of ice cream resting on her pregnant belly. She shrugs unapologetically, scooping another mouthful of mint choc chip into her mouth.
The reception is being held at the country club just outside of town. A large pond is surrounded by hundreds of twinkling solar lights, the large canvas marquee covers about twenty round tables. There's a buffet of delicious food; savoury and desert. The beers are on ice, a fountain of champagne is set up in the middle of the outdoor room and music has everyone in the mood to dance.
Well almost everyone.
"Spence, go dance with Grayson." Dallas taps her best friends chair with her foot. She's sat on my lap with her arm draped over my shoulder and a drink in her hand. A non alcoholic one of course, in support of her pregnant best friend.
"No!" She objects with a mouthful of ice cream. "It's to hot. I'm to pregnant."
"Aw come on babe."
"You did this to me!" She points at him. "Now you can deal with the fact that I don't wanna dance."
"I'll give you an hour long back rub later tonight?"
I don't know why he's bribing her to dance with him. He could sit down and save himself the embarrassment because the kid can't dance for shit and then he'd save himself the hour long back rub too.
But, I'm just as whipped for Dallas. I'd do the same thing.
"Fine." She gets up and let's him lead her on to the make shift wooden dance floor. The two of them look awkward as hell with his two left feet and her big stomach creating a barrier between them. But it's pretty sweet to see the loving gazes that they give each other.
"What about you beautiful?" My hand runs along Dallas' smooth thigh and she twists in my lap, glancing down at me with a wide smile. "Do you wanna dance?"
"Of course."
She sets her glass down and jumps up, letting me lace our fingers together before I lead her out to join our friends. When we've found a little space that's clear enough, I grab her lower back, fanning my hand out and pulling her close against me. My other hand finds the one that she's hasn't placed on my shoulder and we start to sway to the music.
"I'm thinking roast lamb and chicken."
"Huh?" Dallas glances up at me through her long thick lashes.
"When we get married." I state, pushing her out into a twirl before I pull her back in. "We should serve roast lamb and chicken. Roast lamb is the shit."
"When we get married?" She giggles with red cheeks.
"Yeah."
"When are we getting married?" She cocks a brow, a small grin on her plump lips. "We aren't even engaged."
"We will be one day." I tell her with a satisfied sigh. Just the thought of making her my wife when the time is right. It's a vision that I can't get enough of. "You'll never see it coming by the way."
"I don't doubt that." She laughs and rests her head on my chest, giving my hand a tight squeeze.
"Will you say yes?"
"Of course I will Dray."
"I love you cheer. Like, a fucking lot."
"I love you too."
She leans back and steps up on her tip toes as she throws her arms around my neck. I meet her half way, kissing her so hard that it's probably not appropriate for the eyes of others. But I can't help it. She draws me in and I'm lost to the taste of my future on her sweet lips.
"Hate to break this up," Grayson's irritating voice breaks through the pure blissful state that I'd been in and my grip on Dallas's back becomes tight as I break away and glance to the side, scowling at my best friend. "It's time for speeches so we've all got to take a seat. Or, I mean, you two might want to get a room."
"Sounds good!" I start tugging Dallas towards the exit but she pulls me up short when she yanks on my arm and forces me to turn around.
"Come on, Spencer's giving a speech."
"Oh great!" I chirp with sarcasm, following her back to our table. "This should be an interesting eighty nine minutes."
"Stop!" She shakes her head with amusement evident on her face.
We take our seats and before she can take the one beside me, I encircle an arm around her small waist and pull her into my lap.
I hadn't realised that Spencer would be leading the speeches, but its apparent that she is when she stands up and accepts the microphone from some man who seems to be keeping a handle on music and electronic related matters.
"Hey everyone!" She starts with a nervous smile and Dallas gives her a thumbs up, prompting her to continue. "For those who don't know me, I'm Spencer. Nicolàs and Camilla's daughter. The first thing that I want to say, is that everyone should understand how incredible it is to be here today. Growing up, I didn't have a father around and I was under the impression, it was because he didn't want to be here."
She takes a deep breath to steady herself, a little hitch giving light to the fact that she's feeling emotional. When I glance over at Camilla and Nic, I note that Camilla is already dabbing her cheeks with a tissue.
"But a whole lotta years later and I know better and I've been blessed to have created a relationship with someone as wonderful as my father. . . Nic. I've watched Mom go through life, working hard, providing me with so much on her own because her love for the missing man in her life was too strong to move on. So to see them reunited after the longest time apart, it's a miracle. It's an act of such strong love. The kind of love you read about it novels and wish that it was real. Well theirs is and I know that not everyone gets the kind of chance that they have. I'm certain that they're as grateful for it, as I am. I love you both so much and I can't begin to describe how glad I am, that you get to grow old together, to look after each other, to be each other's happily ever after. To Nicolàs and Camilla, my Mom and Dad. Congratulations!"
She'd managed to keep the tears back through her speech, but as an applause breaks out and her parents let their tears fall while they clap, she smiles through the sobs. She walks the short distance to their table and pulls them into a tight hug and I admit, she did a damn good job. Dallas wipes at her own tears and I peck her shoulder as I clap with the rest of the guests.
After the excitement has settled again, the second person stands to speak. It's one of the groomsmen, but a few seconds into his speech and I'm checked out, my focus honing in on the beautiful girl that's perched in my lap. She's listening with a soft smile, but I can't help myself and let my hands dip under the skirt of her dress.
"Dray." She scolds in a hushed tone, wriggling around and making the situation in my pants a whole lot worse.
"If you care about anything this dude has to say, we can stay." I whisper in her ear, my lips grazing her skin and my hands caressing her bare thighs. "If you don't, we should get out of here right now."
She bites down on her lip while she contemplates the offer. I almost lose it at the sight of her teeth sinking into the plump pink flesh. She's so beyond beautiful. It's insane how much she can wind me up without even trying.
"Spence," Dallas leans across the table with a whisper. "We'll be back soon."
She jumps up and doesn't even wait for me to follow, she just ducks out, disappearing across the trimmed green terrain of the golf club. I quickly stand and throw back the last of the beer that I'd been drinking for the last twenty minutes. Grayson gives me a knowing smirk, rolling his eyes as if he has some moral compass to sit on. I believe he's the teen dad here. Not me.
I catch up to Dallas when she's already made it half way around the pond. The marquee is somewhat smaller from this distance, the little blobs of people and twinkling lights are all that can be seen in the dark, the sound of the speaker is inaudible and all that's to be seen of the pond is the moonlight that shines on the still glass water.
A patch of trees on the edge of the golf course - which creates a bend that has to be rounded to continue on to the next hole - seems to be the ideal spot. But before we've even reached the thick of cover, she spins around and throws her arms around me, her lips immediately finding mine.
"You have no idea how hot it was when you started talking about our future wedding." She murmurs in between fierce kisses. I hold on to her hips, walking her backwards as we indulge in the taste of each other's eager mouths.
"That turned you on?"
"Of course."
Damn, she hides it so well.
We continue walking back, kissing, biting, nipping and sucking with frenzied hands and breathless panting. As I back her into a wide tree trunk, I find the zip on the back of her dress and start to pull it down.
"Don't want to ruin that."
• • •
"Oh shit babe, wait." I stop Dallas before we get too close to the marquee. The light from the party allows me to notice a few twigs in her hair. So I stand her in front of me and turn her around, removing the remnants of our tree trunk shenanigans and smoothing her curls out so that it's not obvious.
"Thanks babe." She grins, stepping back and giving me a quick once over.
"Dray!" She squeals, clapping a hand over her mouth. "Your pants are on backwards."
"Oh fûck. I thought they felt weird." I glance down and sure enough, there's no zip or button, but the back pockets are visible. I look from left to right and make sure that no one is around before I whip them off and swap them over.
"Okay, I think we're good." She laughs, linking her arm around mine before we start back towards the reception.
We weren't gone for too long so I'm sure that no one will assume the worst.
•
"You two are dirty little shits." Grayson almost shouts when we reappear at the table. "Do you two want to end up like this?"
He points at his girlfriends baby bump as he takes a swig of his beer. "Bro, this here. . . this is the end."
"Hey!" Spencer snaps, swatting his arm with a back handed slap.
"I'm kidding." He grins at her. "I'm happy. I'm excited. I can't wait to have our little girl."
It looks as though Spencer is about to start in on some long winded rant about the hardships of pregnancy, but her mother appears beside us with a wide smile.
"Dallas, Drayton, I haven't had a chance to say a proper hello!" She coos, her long dark hair which had previously been down in curls is now wrapped on the top of her head. "Thank you for being such a wonderful bridesmaid hon."
She pulls Dallas into a hug and I sit down, my legs a little tired from earlier activities.
"You're welcome Camilla." She smiles. "You look so beautiful. Congratulations."
"Thank you! It's been an incredible day." She rests her hands on the back of a chair and glances between the entire tables faces. "Who knows, perhaps the next wedding will be yours Mija?"
"Momma!" Spencer cautions, resting her elbows on the table and giving her mother a, 'what the fuck' look. "You'll scare my boyfriend."
"Your boyfriend put a bebé in you." She shrugs. "The least he can do is put a ring on that finger."
Grayson chuckles nervously, the rest of us exchanging amused glances at the clear discomfort. I live for this shit. I hope she puts him on the spot as often as possible. It's so fucking hilarious.
"Of course." Grayson assures, feigning confidence despite the beetroot cheeks and visible swallow. "We'll definitely get married. At some stage. In the near-ish future."
"Oh relax." Camilla rolls her eyes. "I'm about to throw the bouquet. Are you girls going to come and join in?"
"Is it safe for Spencer?" Dallas stands up, rubbing her wrists and I notice the red fingerprints that are wrapped around them.
Oops.
"What if she gets crushed in the savage stampede of desperate singles that want to get married before they become washed up and hagrid?" Grayson finishes Dallas' thoughts. Although, that's probably not how she would have put it.
"I'll just come and watch on the side lines." Spencer pulls herself out of the seat, taking a deep breath as she straightens up.
"I'll throw long." Camilla winks and the three girls head off towards the dance floor.
I'm not a superstitious person, but I hope that Dallas wins. The sooner I can marry her, the better.
