Not Like Us

There was only one class during the school day that Melanie didn't have with Belle, Liam or Mason. AP English. She couldn't blame anybody but herself though, considering she willing signed up for the AP class while the other three were taking normal English.

But Mel wasn't alone in that class. Corey was with her and even though the two weren't that close, the both silently agreed they'd always sit next to each other.

The teacher was currently having them do independent writing and Melanie was engrossed in the assignment, not noticing Corey was staring at her handwriting.

Suddenly, Corey tapped her shoulder and she slowly lifted her head. Melanie send him a small smile as he pointed at her paper. "I really like your handwriting."

Melanie looked down at her paper and smiled before looking back up at Corey. "Thanks."

Melanie has always been told her handwriting resembled her mother's, she felt a small pit in her stomach before letting out a small exhale and going back to work.

She wrote down a few more words before Corey tapped her shoulder again. Melanie let out a small laugh, looking up at him again as he gave her a small smile. "Um... I never got to say thank you. For saving me at Eichen."

Melanie rolled her eyes, shaking her head slightly. "You don't need to thank me." She said and Corey instantly shook his head. "Yes I do. I dont know if I would've made it if you didn't help heal me."

Melanie looked at him for a few seconds before sighing in defeat, a small smile on her face as she shrugged. "Well then... what are friends for?" Melanie muttered to Corey, a soft smile on her face that made Coreys brows furrow.

"Am I really your friend?" Corey asked, making Melanie instantly look at him with a contorted face as he continued. "Like do you actually consider us friends or do you only count me as a friend because you're friends with my boyfriend? Because I consider us frie-" "Corey." Melanie interrupted the boys rambles with a small laugh.

She slowly nodded her head as she started to pack up her belonging since class was ending soon. "I consider you a friend because of you." She said and Corey smiled, nodding happily as the bell rang.

Melanie slowly sat up, throwing her backpack over her shoulder as she walked out of the classroom, waving bye to Corey.

She didn't even make it two steps out before each of her arms were grabbed and she was being pulled down the hall.

"Ow. Ow! Arm!" Melanie yelped as Belle and Liam each grabbed one of her arms, pulling her into the library to have a group conversation.

Liam sat Melanie into a seat at the table where the rest of the pack was before taking the seats next to her, Belle sitting across from them beside Stiles.

"Mason said it's not just to transmit a frequency. It's high powered. Like it has to be really strong signal." Liam said as he sat down, everyone besides Mel having a brief explanation on what he was talking about.

"And that's causing it to shift?" Scott asked and Liam shook his head. "No. I don't think it's just that. Last night Argent said that it's getting smarter. What if the Dread Doctors are trying to make the Beast grow faster?"

"With frequencies?" Stiles asked and Belle shook her head, turning to look up at him from beside her. "No, by shifting. The frequency is just the trigger. The important part is when it shifts into the werewolf. Like Peter. When Peter was an Alpha, he got stronger every full moon. Eventually, the burns healed and he was back to normal." Belle said and Scott squinted, slowly starting to understand.

"So the Dread Doctors don't want to wait for the full moon. They want the Beast to be as strong as possible, as fast as possible..." Scott said and Liam nodded. "Because of Parrish." He said as Mel continued to look back and forth between the people talking, still left out of the loop.

"So if this is happening tonight, what are we going to do?" Malia asked and Scott sighed, a slightly relieved smile on his face as he reached into his bag. "Uh, we've got one clue to go on. This came from the hospital." He said as he pulled out a photo of a bloody footprint. "Whoever's lurking inside the Beast is wearing a size 10 of indeterminate make."

"Indeterminate?" Belle asked and Mel, finally understanding something, butted in. "It means, it's a partial print. Basically, it was all we were able to get considering all the fire, blood and carnage." She said and Scott nodded in agreement as Stiles sighed, looking between everyone in the group. "How many size 10s are out there?"

Belle buzzed her lips, shrugging. "Only one with Parrish's blood on the sole." Liam sighed, upset of the next words to come out of his mouth but spoke up nonetheless. "So are we going to try to get the game canceled?"

"We're getting the game canceled." Scott said as Melanie looked between the group back and forth, confused. "Wait what?" She whispered under her breath as the group started to disperse. She watched as Liam got out of his seat, heading to class, making her eyes widen.

"Hey! I still don't know what you were talking about!" Melanie yelled, grabbing her bag and chasing after Liam.

...

After finally getting fully filled in by Liam, Melanie walked onto the field with him, Scott and Belle, sighing as she threw her gym bag over her shoulder when Liam elbowed her arm. She turned to him, her eyes falling just passed him to all the news cars parked just outside the field.

"Oh... that's not good." Melanie whispered and Belle nodded, frowning at the vans as Liam grabbed Melanie's hand, squeezing it as if to say 'we got this'.

...

"Mason you know your part..." Scott said as the pack stood over one of the tables in the science lab. Mason nodded, looking around the table to everyone. "Corey and I break into the Devenford Bus and search their shoes."

Scott nodded, turning to Malia. The girl nodded, showing her claws. "I take out the TV vans." Scott nodded, looking at the rest of the group. "Right before the whistle, Coach forfeits the game."

Belle let out a small exhale, looking between Melanie and Liam. "The rest of us are looking for a size 10 with a bloody sole." Kira nodded, locking eyes her sister. The girls nodded, thinking the same thing before Melanie cringed slightly, raising her hand. "Just out of curiosity... What if it doesn't work? What if we have to go up against this thing?"

Scott sighed, turning to Kira who had the same awkward and scared Yukimura look, making him shake his head, turning back to Melanie. "We're all stronger when we're all together again, when we were a pack."

"The Beast doesn't have a pack." Belle said, a smirk on her face, making everyone turn to her as she continued. "Not like us." Scott nodded, sending Belle a proud smile before looking to the rest of the group. "We can do this, guys. No one dies tonight."

...

"We're getting crushed." Melanie breathed out as she gripped her arm in pain. Scott turned to her, giving her a reassuring smile as he nodded. "It's okay. All we need to do is give the others enough time. Like I said. No one's getting hurt."

Melanie looked at him with wide eyes, using her good arm to lift her broken one to Scott line of eyesight. "My arm is bent a way it shouldn't be bent!" Belle rolled her eyes, grabbing Melanie's arm and snapping it back into place, making Melanie yelp in pain and Liam grabbed her good hand for comfort.

Once she caught her breath and her arm started to feel better, she sighed, walking back to her spot on the field. "Except for us."

...

Mel sighed as Liam stomped back towards the bleachers after Devenford scored another goal. She slowly started walking after him when Brett jogged up beside her. Melanie sent the boy a lopsided smile as they walked. "We need more time. You got to stop scoring."

Brett looked down at Melanie, letting out a loud laugh, catching Melanie off guard as he held his chest from laughing. "You don't think I've been trying? You guys suck. You suck so bad, it's impossible to lose against you."

Melanie rolled her eyes at his words, looking ahead of her as she walked "So what are we supposed to do?"

After a few seconds, Brett didn't answer, making her turn to look up at him. Brett had a small, cocky smirk on his face as he shrugged. "Try not sucking." He said, patting Mel's shoulder before running to his side of the bleachers, leaving Melanie to sit down between Liam and Belle on the bleachers.

"Hey." A voice said from the other side of Belle. The Parker girl turned her head and smiled at Hayden. "Hey." Hayden stared into Belle's eyes as she smiled. "I'm with you."

Belle's brows furrowed, a confused laugh passing her lips. "What?" Hayden's smile only grew wider, holding back a small laugh. "I'm with you. All of you."

"Why?" Belle asked and Hayden looked down, grabbing Belle's hand before squeezing it and looking at her. "Because you're right about Scott. Whatever happens next... I want to be with you."

Belle smiled at Hayden, pulling her hands towards her to bring her into a kiss until coach blew his whistle, wanting the team back on the field. Belle pulled away, giving Hayden a small smile before running to the field with Stiles, Liam and Mel.

"Something's wrong. I don't think Malia's got all the vans." Stiles said. The three sophomores turned their heads to the news vans, Liam shaking his head. "Then we'll get her more time."

Stiles' brows furrowed, turning to look down at Liam. "How the hell are we going to do that?" Liam's lips pursed, shrugging. "We'll even up the score."

Melanie's eyes went sarcastically wide, turning to look at him. "I'll join in now... How the hell are we going to do that?" Liam sighed, turning to Melanie. His eyes rolled slightly as he kissed her cheek before turning to Stiles as he ran to his spot. "Just give Mel the ball."

Melanie sighed as he walked away. She turned to Belle and Stiles, shrugging before running to her spot. Belle let out a loud sigh, looking up at Stiles. "This won't turn out too well."

Stiles' lips turned into a line as he nodded, keeping his eyes on the opposing team. "No, it's not." Belle looked up at him with a worried look and Stiles sighed, seeing the scared thirteen year old girl from when Scott and her first got bit. He rubbed her shoulder reassuringly before running to his spot on the field.

Belle swallowed the lump in her throat, holding her stick tighter as she tried to catch her breath. "You got this, Belle." She muttered before walking to her spot in the goal.

Melanie pushed her feet further into the mud as she waited for the referee to blow his whistle. She was standing face to face with Brett who mouthing at her to do better.

When the referee blew his whistle to start the game, Melanie instantly started running towards Devenfords goal. She faced the middle of the field, her back to the opposing teams goal and she stuck her stick in the air, letting Stiles know she was open.

When Stiles saw Mel, he threw the ball towards her and she instantly caught it. Melanie ran towards the Devenford goal, Liam right behind her as defense.

Melanie took one last big step before throwing the ball. She watched as the ball went right passed the goalie when two Devenford players came up from Melanie and Liams sides, tackling them just as the ball hit the net.

A loud whistle and cheering rang through the air. "That's overtime!" The referee screamed, making Coach cheer, running towards Liam and Melanie who both laid on the floor in pain. "Get up, idiots. We could win this thing."

Melanie slowly got up, already feeling herself start to heal as she looked down at Liam, sticking her hand out to help him up. Liam grabbed her hand and hoisted himself up as she helped pull. When he was finally up, he winced, making Melanie's brows furrow as she cupped his face. "You okay?"

Liam put his hands over Mel's, nodding slightly as he moved his head to the side slightly to kiss her hand. "I'm okay."

Melanie slowly nodded in relief as Liam continued to catch his breath when a low growl from the buses made the couple freeze.

Everyone on the field and bleacher froze and silence took them over. A loud creak and one of the school buses shaking caught everyone's attention.

The Beast slowly crawled on top of the bus, almost half the size of it as it roared.

A low growl escaped from Liam, making Melanie's eyes go wide as she turned to him. His eyes were bright yellow and his fangs  and claws were out and just as Melanie was about to grab his arm to stop him, Liam went running for the Beast.

Melanie felt her heart drop at Liam getting closer and closer to the monster just about three times his size. She took a step back in shock, ramming into Stiles' chest and he grabbed onto her before she could trip as she screamed.

"Liam! Stop!"
