C10: Once a Friend?
Hours were spent throughout this school day, but he couldn’t stop thinking about how he held her small delicate hand to his ivory phalanges. That was the first time he ever got any physical contact with a girl. Before he even noticed that, he didn’t care. He didn’t really mind holding the girl’s palm. But because of the voice that surged in his mind alerted him, that was the very moment, he did mind. He noticed. It was the exact time he actually gets to feel the soft texture of her hand. It felt weird to actually care about the little things that happens in your life. For example, this ‘incident’.
‘Well, here we go again. Are you sure you want to go to detention?’ a voice so soft interrupted his thoughts, which caused his to blush a little.
“Nah. I’m used to it…” he began, but stopped dead in his tracks to see the girl beside him frown at his reply, “A little. I may not like it, but at least I get to have that time to get myself a nap.” he added, winking, causing her to laugh a bit. ‘More like sleep to me.’ she joked, slightly correcting him.
They soon arrived to the headmaster’s office. The king was expecting for the skeleton to come, so he already positioned himself at the door. “Again, Sans?” he said, arching an eyebrow at him.
“Yes, sir.” Sans replied, but before following Asgore to the detention room, he turned to Frisk, saying, “Wait for me, k?” The human nodded, “And feel free to explore more about the school. Ya’ll meet dozens of eggs out there, so just be careful. I’ll be back after this is over.” he reassured. Recapping about what he said, he somewhat felt that the warnings he gave her sounded a bit too concerned. Obvious. So he added, “Chara’s really gonna kill me if anything happens to ya, so stay in one piece.”
------------------------------------------------------
Alone. Silence was with her again, she sighed, but shrugged the feeling of loneliness away. ‘Stay determined, Frisk. Just have fun in this new timeline.’ she thought.
She roamed through the hallways of Snowdin. She gazed at every nook and corner. Its white tiles, and slightly blue painted walls. The halls were lit by chandeliers, adorned with vinery, that adorned the seemingly blue ceiling. Snowdin was lifted high by towering white marble pillars, all decorated with the same vines. Some rooms, she noticed, have Christmas lights just above their doorways. She chuckled at how the rooms reminded her of the skeleton brothers’ wooden cabin.
Moving on, she noticed how she’s exiting the ‘snowy’ hall, as she entered a ‘warmer’ atmosphere. Or, ‘hotter’ if she must say. She gazed on to see her enter a lava-themed hallway, its orange-almost-red walls, and brown flooring. And instead of chandeliers, the halls were lit by torches, found hanging on walls. There, she saw dozens of students. Unlike the ones that belong to the Snowdin Hall, these students didn’t look very friendly at all. In fact, they looked like the thugs, the bullies.
Looking up, she saw a stone sign, engraved with a particular word to name this fiery hall; “Hotlands”. Hotlands? She remembered how the Hotlands back in the Underground was the place where most of the climax in her timeline occurred. Like this was where she met the captain of the royal guards, Undyne.
Speaking of which, her golden gaze fell on a group huddled close to each other, their backs facing her. She saw a certain blue fish monster, her red hair tied up to a ponytail, and wears a glimmering silver armor. In her right hand, she held a glowing blue spear, pointing it towards the student they surrounded in an attempt to threaten him.
It seemed as if everything cooled a bit despite the hot surroundings, to the point where they were about to release their victim, when suddenly, they looked back at Frisk. The look of their burning gazes, intimidated the girl. The looked as if they have found their next victim. ‘Oh, no.’ she thought.
“Heyya, punk! Mind to come here a bit?” their leader, the blue fish lady called out, grinning at her. The human however, hesitated, turning around to leave and pretend not to see anything, when she was held back by a spear that suddenly appeared floating in front of her. “Not following orders, I see?” the lady said, grinning. Frisk turned to face the creature, now in front of her. ‘Undyne’ she silently whispered.
“Well, well, well. I think we got ourselves another meal! New here, I’m guessing?” exclaimed Undyne, as she slowly walked around her to completely observe her features.
Shivers went down her spine, and a bead of sweat rolled down her neck upon hearing these words. She was used to Undyne before, but now, she didn’t have the courage to face her. Back then, she didn’t have much things to be laughing about. Being mute, might change everything. She couldn’t stand up for herself without uttering a word of defense!
“Cat got your tongue? Speak up, punk!” she growled, giving her a terrifying stare.
It felt weird, actually being the enemy of someone who was once your friend. It hurt and frightened her at the same time. No time soon, she’ll be beaten down to death by the one in front of her.
“Ya can’t talk, can you? Well then let me get this straight, if you could just pretend you didn’t see anything, I’ll let you go and walk back to where you belong in one piece. Capiche?” Undyne offered, surprisingly giving her a toothy smile.
Pretend? She’d better not, ‘cause she didn’t even see a damn thing of whatever they did to the boy earlier! Then again, she saw that spear threat the monster gave him, so maybe she saw only a small part of it. So she quickly nodded at Undyne, as the fish lady instantly gave her way.
But as soon as she stepped out of the space between them, a cackle was heard behind her, “I don’t believe you.”
And just like that, Undyne threw her spear, its blade quickly went through the girl’s shoulder-side of her sweater, dragging the helpless human to the wall. She still hung on that wall, her sweater held by the spear. She tried to stop Undyne from doing further more damage by waving her hands a little, but instead, got held to the throat by the hands of the blue monster. “Then I’ll just have to get rid of the evidence.” she smirked, as Frisk wheezed for air.
Everything started to get blurry, and just before she could black out, she saw blue light emitted around her.
------------------------------------------------------
“Just make sure not to do that again, my boy.” sighed Asgore, “I just don’t know how to discipline you correctly for your actions. And detention isn’t helping at all.”
“Not gonna do it again, Your Highness. I wasn’t actually answer ‘eskeleton’ anyways.” the skeleton shrugged, slightly smirking.
“Oh. Then you are dismissed.” said Asgore, turning back to his paperwork.
Before completely leaving the room, however, Sans couldn’t help but ask one thing; “Oh, and by the way. How’s your… Lever?”
“You mean Tori? Yes, we’re fine and all. As always, she…” he replied, but before he could even finish his sentence, he finally realized what the skeletal monster meant, causing him to fume, “Sans!? Get back here…!” but it was too late. Sans was already at the door, laughing his skull off. Man. Making fun of the headmaster was one of his favorite things to do in his not even worthy life.
‘So where did she go?’ he thought, glancing at the halls. She must’ve wandered off somewhere. She can’t be that far; she doesn’t even know the halls of this school yet. At least, that what he thought. Since now that we know that Frisk has already got an idea where to go for the concept of the school matched those back in the Underground.
He kept looking anywhere, just to spot that particular chocolate brown hair. “Honey?” he called out, still trying to find her. Until, he stumbled upon the Hotlands Hall. No, she couldn’t have just pass by this extremely dangerous hall, could she? But then again, a sense of uncertainty surged through his bones after seeing Undyne and her so-called group; The Royal Guards.
He wondered why Papyrus would even want to join that team of thugs. Thanks to Sans’ stories of how brave and noble the Royal Guards are back then, and considering them as heroes, his little brother nonetheless dreamed of becoming one of them. But that was back in the Underground. Now, they’re only a bunch of guys beating up any person they considered as weak. And he hated to think of Frisk as a weak person. She’s not, but at the same time, she is. And what’s more that he hated to think about? Frisk in danger, that’s what it is. And today, he seemed to see that happening in person.
There was great shock and horror in his face when he saw how Undyne held the girl tightly around her neck, choking her. He was a bit dazed by it, but after snapping back to reality, anger rushed in. How dare they touch her!
Quickly, he raised his now blue lit phalanges, as he used telekinesis to lift Frisk away from Undyne with his blue aura. The monster was shocked by the sight of this, turning to see the skeleton in a certain position, his left eye emitting blue flames. By the looks of him, she shuddered a little, but then stayed smug. “I see ya got something that belongs to me, Undyne.” he grinned darkly, which caused the fish monster to release a bead of sweat. Does fishes even sweat? (Sans: No, but they respire. *chuckles*)
“Clearly, ya found her, and was about to return her safely to me, is that right?” he said, arching an eyebrow at the group, as he used the blue aura to float Frisk behind him. “What if I told you I didn’t? What are you gonna do about it, huh? Your eye, or even telekinesis doesn’t even make me all flippin’ pussy about it!” she scoffed, seeming undaunted.
Certainly, this pissed the shit right off the skeleton, causing him thrust more energy, but quickly stopped himself. No one knows how powerful he really is, or even know he has magic. And most definitely, he doesn’t want to bring out the big guns yet. The world of both monsters and humans alike are not yet ready to meet up with his ‘dogs’. (Guess what he meant by ‘dogs’ or ‘big guns’)
So he just shrugged, holding Frisk to his arms, and teleported back to the Snowdin Hall. And at their arrival, he noticed how the girl he carried is unconscious, looking hurt. “Honey? Hey, Hon?” he called out, gently shaking her. But after several attempts of waking her up without any vital response, he panicked. He can’t lose her, not yet. “That fish will surely be dead by now if she doesn’t wake up!” he exclaimed angrily. “Honey! Frisk, you gotta wake up!” he cried, now slightly shaking her a bit harder.
Sweat flowed around him, both panic and anger surging in. “FRISK! Ugh!” he sobbed, tears flowing down from his eye sockets to his cheekbones. He tried to stand, thinking of bringing up his dogs to Undyne, when a small movement from the human girl alerted him to look back. ‘S-sans?’ she stammered in his thoughts. This brought relief in his bones, causing him to embrace the unsuspecting girl, “Frisk, you’re ok!” he exhaled, trying to calm down, “Thank Asgore, you’re ok.”
They just stayed like that for like 20 minutes (Yes, 20 is now one of my favorite numbers, I know.), not bothering to move away from each other. ‘Sans, I’m fine, really. You don’t have to panic.’ she reassured him, patting his back to calm him. “No, don’t say that! Undyne almost killed you back there, and I’m gonna find that fish, and then I’ll…” he angrily blurted, but was interrupted by Frisk hugging him back, ‘Please, don’t hurt Undyne! She didn’t really mean doing it.’ she begged.
“Even if after she almost choked you to death?”
‘Yes, even with…’
“But what if…”
'Please?' she insisted, an unexpectedly opened her golden orbs to reveal two puppy eyes staring back at him. Ok, that does it. Those eyes are the password to his resistance, so he sighed, breaking down his walls.
“Ok, fine. But I’m gonna make sure nothing like this would happen to ya ever again. And if I make my ways, I won’t stop doing it.” he said, shrugging, which caused her to nod in reply.
‘Then I’ll have to find a way to stop you then.’ she chuckled. Their eyes locked to each other, staring and smiling…
“I’d like to see ya try.”
