C14: Grillby's

A/n: Heyya, pinksterz!💕

So yeah, I’m still alive, really fine. Our classes are moved to next week, which means three things. One, our classes are not yet finished, we still have to take the final examination, then it’s vacation! Two, I’ll have a bit of time updating, so yay. And three, that freakin’ coronavirus is still there, so we should stay determined if we wanna survive this pandemic! So you might wanna wash your hands first before reading this… Who am I kidding? You’re reading with an electronic device! But still, just to be safe… Wash to prevent. ‘Cause our country’s going alert level 2 on this one, so yikes.

Aaand! Since I got this opportunity to finally sneak out of studying for weeks, let’s continue the story, shall we?

-------------------------------------------------------------

“Hey, Honey. Everything’s gonna be fine, ya don’t have to worry too much about it!” he said, holding her shoulder to reassure her, “I’m sure the club would definitely accept ya. Ya’ve already knock the socks off the whole school with that performance of yours!” he smiled, hoping to calm the now shaking human.

After the whole ‘mini’ performance, Frisk has been a bit nervous just as she stepped down to the backstage. She never expected for the audience to actually like her singing, and singing wasn’t pretty much something she have in mind. She only sung a couple of times back before she fell to the Underground. Never had she planned on continuing it though, until now.

‘You really think so?’ her voice whispering worriedly in his skull.

“Ya are amazing.” the skeleton pointed out, which made her blush a little.

“May I request Ms. Frisk Mercy Dreemurr to please join me on stage? ~” exclaimed a metallic voice, his vocal sound booming through a microphone. The girl faced Sans, quite unsure if she must go. “Go!” he ushered, “And don’tcha worry, I got your spine!” he winked, causing her to giggle as she climbed back up the stage.

“Here she is, dearies! The angel of the stage, Frisk! ~” he announced with utmost energy, that could barely be heard due to the cheering of the audience. She blushed shyly at the sight of them, glancing back at Sans, who gave her a thumbs-up.

“Darling, I got to say. You are actually fantastic! ~” he complimented, as more cheers were heard.

Sanstastic.’ she thought slyly, which made the skeleton laugh so hard, as a blue hue formed in his cheekbones. The cheering stopped, and is now replaced with silence, the audience now looking at him with weird faces. He gave out a nervous chuckle at this, the blue color rising up a notch, causing him to try and hide it with his hoodie up. “C-continue…” he muttered lowly, enough for the robot to hear.

“As I was saying, Frisk, you are absolutely fabulous! Well, not as fabulous as me, but very well-done! You’ve proved yourself that you deserved that beauty of yours, but it is time to prove it to all viewers out there. What do you think? Should the MTT Club accept this lovely lady I am with on stage? ~” he asked, arching an eyebrow, his hand stretching out to reach his microphone to the watchers. Instantly, the noises of excitement went exploding, all are squealing with the words;

“YES!”

“Please accept her!”

“She deserves it!”

“Go Frisk!”

“Take me instead!” (What the frick.)

“It’s official then!” Metatton announced, doing a dramatic pose, his metallic finger pointing at her, “Frisk Mercy Dreemurr, I hereby proclaim as the president of our club, that you are an official member of the Dreemurr Academy’s Music Club, MTT! ~”

Many shouts of excitement erupted in the whole auditorium. “Way to go, Frisk!” they say, clapping happily.

After the announcement, it was time for all of them to leave and proceed to their dorms. The skeleton handed his skeletal phalanges to help the human girl climb down the stage. “I know ya could do it.” he grinned at her, “This calls for some celebration! Wanna head to Grillby’s?”

‘Nu-uh.’ she shrugged, but smiled, ‘It’s already late, and remember, Chara’s surely gonna look for me. Plus, you need some rest after the whole Undyne incident.’

“Come on, just once? I’ll teleport ya back as soon as I taste that sweet sweet ketchup! Which ya’ll be treating, of course!” he begged, clasping his hands together. ‘Then go yourself, bonehead! You just mentioned the word treating.’ she giggled, pushing him playfully. “Ok, ok! I’ll be the one treating, sheesh.” he exclaimed, rolling his beads. ‘Now I’m taken. Let’s go!’ she squealed, tugging his sleeve. He sighed, yet chuckled at her reaction, as he teleported them both to Grillby’s.

-------------------------------------------------------------

‘Are you sure he’s still open?’ she asked, as soon as they arrived at the entrance to their favorite diner.

“No worries, Hon. I have access to enter even when closed.” he shrugged, pushing the door open.

Sure enough, it was close, and luckily, Grillby is still at the counter, sensing their arrival. The flame monster was seen wiping off a mustard gunk on the counter, adjusting his pair of glasses, before nodding at the two friends. “The usual?” he asked, eyeing them closely. He must be suspicious of why only the two of them are here in the middle of the night. “Yep. Some burger and fries too.” The skeleton lazily said, as he sets his right arm at the counter. Grillby nodded in reply.

“Fuku, could you bring Sans a bottle of ketchup, please?” the flame called out to his daughter.

Banging of pans were heard in the kitchen, as his daughter’s voice cried out, “Sans is here?! OMG, wait a sec!” Minutes later, Chara’s green flame friend appeared at the kitchen doorway, holding a tray with a ketchup bottle set on it. Frisk noticed how Fuku’s wearing what must be one of her nicest clothes; a ruby red dress, with white flowers embroidered at the hem of its skirt. “Sansy, you didn’t tell me, you’re coming. ~” she cooed, walking towards them.

Sansy? Fuku must’ve liked him so much to call him that way, and to even dress for some occasion. Like this one. (I’m gonna make little Frisky here as a decent gal, natch!) Frisk chuckled at the name though, and waved the flame girl a hello, much to Fuku’s surprise.

“And you brought Frisk with you, how sweet.” she added in sarcasm, as she handed the bottle of ketchup to Sans. “Heh. We’re just celebrating how Frisky here just got into our club!” he chuckled, ruffling the hair of the human beside him. The green flame, however, wasn’t very much happy about him ruffling Frisk’s hair. She just shrugged, sassily saying, “Oh great, she’s now a member of our club. Congratulations.”

‘Thanks.’ the human girl smiled, as Sans interpreted, “She said thank you.”

“How did you…” but before Fuku could finish, it was Sans’ turn to interrupt, “Papyrus and I are the only ones who could understand her.” the skeleton casually explained, which the green girl nodded in reply.

“So that must mean why you were with her throughout the day.” she muttered, “But Sansy, you must not forget about me, ok? Don’t cling too much on her, it’ll only give you stress. ~” the green flame chirped, slipping her arms to his, snaking him, much to the skeleton’s surprise. He began to sweat, his phobia is kicking in, and is nervously eyeing at Frisk, whose focus was on Grillby’s glass collection. She didn’t seem to notice how Sans was helplessly being embraced by this monster. He was scared now. Until he heard,

‘Nothing much just catches my eye. Maybe because they’re all… See-through? I hope I’m not the glass person to notice that!’ she chuckled at her own pun, still observing the collection. But she didn’t know that the very pun has actually indirectly saved the skeleton beside her from anxiety, which made him laugh so hard, as Fuku only looked confused at him. He pushed the flame creature aside, moving closer to Frisk, “Now that’s, earth-shattering!”

‘Correction, glass-shattering.’ the girl smiled sweetly.

Glassy.” he smirked.

‘No. Honey!’ she corrected once again, causing them both to laugh. Poor Fukufire, who was watching the two of them all the time, frustratingly screaming inside. ‘He was supposed to be with me!’ she thought, shrieking. And what’s even more annoying is the fact that she could not understand them.

Grillby arrived, with a tray of burgers and fries on hand, placing them all on top of the counter. The two of them began to eat, still snickering, as they continued to make horrible glass puns. “How sweet. Are you sure you two aren’t dating?” Grillby asked, out of the blue.

This made Sans spill some ketchup, Frisk choke a fry, and Fuku scrunch her nose. Then the three of them all replied, “Of course not!” The flame cook was surprised to their united reaction, before chuckling. Both Frisk and the skeleton blushed, trying to hide their faces, not daring to face one another. “W-what the hell, Grillbz!” Sans stammered.

Moments after, they shook the feeling of embarrassment by continuing to eat. Sans sneakily loosen up the cap of his second ketchup bottle, snickering as he did. He zoned out at the moment he finished, however. This triggered a memory to one of them…

-------------------------------------------------------------

“Sans, would you please hand me the ketchup?” she asked, reaching out.

“Here ya go, kiddo.” he snickered, holding in his laugh. He just loosened up the bottle cap of this condiment he’s holding, plotting on pranking the human girl beside him.

“Thanks.” she smiled, shaking the bottle for the red fluid to come out. But because of the loose cap, ketchup was spilled out, slightly covering up the burger she ordered. The skeleton only laughed at her dumbfounded reaction. “Sans!?” she shrieked, squirting a bit of ketchup on him.

“Whoa! Didn’t quite ketchup about that.” he laughed.

“What do you mean you didn’t catch? Clearly you’re relishtupid!” said Chara, exasperated, but decided to chuckle and shake off the prank.

Again with these memories. Back at the time when Grillby’s was still located Underground. He cherished these memories. All these recollections remind him of how good his friend Chara was. But why are these memories felt so unfamiliar to him? Chara looks hazy again, it’s as if she wasn’t even a part of this memory. Is the world really making him forget that the kid ever existed in the past?

‘Sans?’ the sweet voice of a girl called out.

‘Sans!’ it cried, catching his attention.

‘You ok?’ the human beside him asked, his eye sockets now focused on her. “Yeah, I’m cool.” he shrugged in reply, still gripping the ketchup bottle.

‘Glad to hear that.’ she rolled her eyes, adding, ‘If you’re fine then, would you mind passing the ketchup?’

“Sure, Hon. Here ya… go.” he trailed off, as he handed the ketchup. This time, he wasn’t snickering at all. It’s as if he realized something is off. That memory… Is repeating itself through Frisk, is that what it is? Is there a missing piece to the memories he’s losing?

‘Sans! This isn’t funny.’ a soft voice whimpered, which broke him off his thoughts.

He looked to see Frisk’s fries all covered up with ketchup, and a bottle cap as its topping. He couldn’t help but smirk at the mess, as Frisk only gagged, losing her appetite.

“Sorry, Hon. Didn’t quite ketchup about that!” he chuckled continuously.

‘Gosh, Sans, you’re relish… stupid…’ her voice trailed off, as silence once again came for a visit. Sadness and fear washed all her joy, recalling the same pun she made back in the Underground. Sans too, was surprised she answered with the same pun Chara said to him. Everything’s… The same. Over and over again, they’d encounter the past every day. Sans to his confusion, and Frisk to her doubt. What is happening?

His focus fell on the now shaking Frisk, much to his worry. “Hey, Honey? What’s wrong?” he asked, concern in his voice.

‘Huh?’ she said, looking up to him, ‘Oh, nothing. I was just… I’m done.’ she sighed, pushing her plate of ketchup-covered fries. “Wanna go home?” he suggested, with Frisk nodding in agreement.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Going out, the two waved a good bye to the two flame monsters before continuing to walk back to school. They were silent for a moment, and the human girl decided to break it by trying to speak in her mind, when the skeleton’s phone rang. Sans shrugged as he picked it up to answer. “Helloo~ This is the reception area; how can I help ya? ~” he cooed intently to help lighten up the girl’s mood. Surely enough, she giggled, and his grin grew wider.

“Sans!? This ain’t time for jokes! Now where’s Frisk?” a voice blasted through the phone, which clearly belonged to Frisk’s ‘sibling’.

The skeleton gave the human beside him a worried look, mouthing ‘uh-oh’, which she quickly understood in worry. ‘Tell her, I’m hiding under the bed!’ she hurriedly thought, as he answered back to Chara, “She ain’t with me. Did ya expect that she’d be with me twenty-four seven, eh? Anyways, I’m not with her. She’s probably hiding somewhere under her bed. Trying looking there.” he gave out a quiet snicker after saying so.

“And why on the Surface would she be hiding under there?” asked Chara, rolling her eyes at the other line of the phone.

“Cause she don’t wanna be above? (Oh flip! Mah pun of the century! Lmao)” he laughed at his retort, with Frisk quietly giggling, and Chara screaming in frustration. Just right after, she disconnected, ruining their fun to worry. Actually, they’re heading to their next fun.

“Come on! There’s no time to lose.” he exclaimed, holding her hand as they teleported. Soon enough, they arrived to a very much ironic place… Under the bed. Right above them, they could hear the grumbles of Chara, muttering, “I’ll get him next time.” As soon as they hear her about to go down, Sans quickly whispered lowly enough for his friend to hear, “Gotta go now, I’ll see ya tomorrow. G’night, Frisk!”

‘Good night, Sans!’ she giggled in reply, as winked at her before teleporting away, just in time for her sister to hold up the bed covers to reveal the ‘hiding’ Frisk.

“Huh? Didn’t really expect for that bonehead to actually be right about something for once. Why are you in here?” she asked, helping the girl under the bed get up, “Oh, right. You can’t really answer that.” she chuckled in realization, as Frisk only rolled her eyes, but smiled. ‘You may have hurt me back then, but… I didn’t expect to actually be glad that you’re my sister, Chara. I hope you’d stay like this.’ she thought, which of course, her ‘sister’ couldn’t hear.

“Why do you smell like ketchup? Wait… Did that lazy bag of bones just…” but before the girl could finish, she felt her sister sleeping soundly, her head on Chara’s chest, “You must be very tired.”

“Good night, Frisk."
