30. Cold Hearted
I had told myself that I wasn't going to use my speed tonight in order to prove to Jay that I could do things on my own again, but after this chick started to come at me, I knew I couldn't beat her without it. Of course I wasn't going to turn down a good fight; I loved a challenge. Not to mention that if I could take care of her on my own without Jay, he'd know then I could take care of myself.
Either Jay couldn't hear all of the commotion going on out here, or he just wanted to wait it out and see how I could do, but either way, he wasn't here to help. I didn't expect him to or want him to; I wanted to do this on my own, that was for damn sure.
Everyone that was held hostage was gone; they fled the moment icicles started flying. They knew they could get away without either of us stopping them, and I didn't care. I needed more room to kick her ass anyways.
I grunt as I dodge another icicle, watching it as it finds itself buried into the wall behind me. For a second I stare at the thing, but then I turn back to the woman. "Do you know who I am?"
"Am I supposed to care?" she hisses before using both her hands to throw ice at me, but I just dash around her and stand on the other side of the room, watching her freeze the wall where I was supposed to be standing.
She whips around and glares at me, but I just cross my arms. "Fine, what's your name then?"
The woman doesn't answer me as thrusts her hands forwards again, letting the ice waves race towards me. I go to dash away once again, but she was smarter this time. As I start to run, I find ice under my feet, causing me to slip and slide straight into the wall.
I hear her laugh in my ear. "Fast feet don't work on ice, do they?"
My hand goes to my head then, feeling a bruise starting to form. "Bitch..."
"Not my name, but nice guess," she snaps once again as she throws more ice in my direction, but I was smarter this time around. I dodge the ice trail at my feet as I stand back on the other side of the room, anger starting to pump through me. I hated when anyone showed me up, even if it was just once for a split second.
"If you won't tell me your name, then I guess I need to come up with one on my own," I say as I place my finger on my chin, thinking to myself. "I think Crystal Frost has a good ring to it-"
"Shut up!" she yells at me once more, throwing yet another blast of ice my way. Instead of just dodging it this time around, I use my gravity powers to throw the blast right back at her, causing her to fall back onto the ground, unaffected.
As she lies there moaning, I walk over to her, looking down as I pull the ring out and stare at it once again. "What's so special about the ring? Please don't tell me this is an engagement ring, cause if it is...oh Honey, I'm sorry. This thing is hideous."
Her eyes flash open then, for a second showing me her pure white eyes, but then switching back to her normal ones. "Even if I did give you an answer, you wouldn't give it back."
"What makes you think that?" I say, shoving the ring back into my pocket. "I'm actually a pretty persuasive person if I get the answers I want."
She sighs then, and I was surprised to hear her actually answering my questions. "My name is Caitlin Snow, and that ring is to keep me from becoming her...to have more control."
"Her?" I say, not sure what she meant. "You mean, your powers?"
Caitlin nods her head. "Yes, so please, just give me that ring back."
I stare down at her for a long moment as I ponder to myself, thinking about giving it back and letting her walk out of here. However, it was then I glanced up and saw Jay standing there watching, his eyes dark as can be. I knew that he was waiting for me to kill her, so that was what I intended on doing. I needed to prove to him I was okay now; and this was the perfect time.
"Sorry, Caity, but I can't do that," I say bitterly as her faces drains of any color she might have had before. As she looks up at me, I take a step back and raise my hand, letting it buzz softly. I envision myself sticking it through her chest, but just before I could do so, her eyes are switching back to their bright white, taking me off guard.
Just before I could dodge the blast, she shoots me directly in the chest with a short burst, causing me to lose my footing. I tumble to the floor below as I grunt, my back hitting against the ground hard. In that amount of time, she gets up onto her feet and stands over the top of me, a half grin on her face. As I look up at her, a single strand of her hair starts to turn to a bright white, making me raise an eyebrow.
"I thought you were supposed to be a trickster," she hisses at me before hitting me with her icy blast, making me cry out. It was bitterly cold, and I couldn't get away. My speed wouldn't work against it. "What a bummer, you and I might have made a decent team."
I wanted to bite back at her that I didn't work in "teams", that Jay was the only person I'd ever work along side of, but my teeth were chattering so much that I couldn't. My eyes look back over to where Jay had been standing a few moment before, and he was no where to be found. That was when I really started to panic. Surely he didn't just leave me here...did he?
Instead of waiting to find out, my eyes snap back towards where Caitlin was standing, looking down to see her leg a few inches away from my left hand. Somehow, I use all of my strength to yank my arm out from the ice that was starting to form on my stomach and reach out and grab her leg. She stops using her powers against me for a moment as she hisses under her breath, kicking my hand away, but it was already too late.
I feel my body temperature start to plummet as the ice on my stomach begins to feel numb; as if nothing was there in the first place. That was when I ripped both of my arms free and slowly stand to my feet, letting the mist I had seen from her hands moments ago float around my own palms, a daring smile forming on my face. I've never had ice powers before, that was for sure, so I knew I'd have some fun with this one.
"What was it you were saying about not being a trickster?" I comment as she backs away, looking scared for a split moment before she scowls, ready to fight back.
I don't let her get the first move as I throw my hands forwards just like how she had done to me, letting the ice inside of me shoot out in icy blasts. A smirk forms on my face as it hits her in the chest, causing her to fly backwards into the wall before falling to the floor, motionless. Finally though, she looks up at me with hatred in her eyes, another strand of her hair turning to a bright white.
"You might have the same powers as me," she snarls while standing up once again,"but you don't know how to use them like I do."
Before I can question her, she reaches out and grabs a table nearby, causing it to turn into ice. I watch with wide eyes as the whole room starts to get transformed into ice, making it hard to walk on, even with these powers. As I look away for a split moment to see what she was doing, she walks forwards somehow without slipping and punches me across the face, her fist covered in ice to make more of an impact.
As I fall to the ground, I realize that I didn't have my speed anymore to get away. I also didn't know how she was walking across the ice with that much ease, and I wouldn't know because I've never had these type of powers before. Whenever I absorbed other powers, it wasn't like I took the skill along with it. I had to teach myself how to use it, and she clearly had the advantage.
When I roll back over from my side, I look up and see her standing above me, a dark look on her face. Her hand reaches out towards me then, and I couldn't stop it. Her palm slams into the center of my chest as I gasp, feeling something I had never felt before in my life. All I can feel is a stream of cold centered towards my chest, making me gasp and my eye lids to get heavy.
"W-What are you d-doing-" I gasp out as I try to fight back, but I couldn't. It was as if she sucked all of the energy out of me.
She shakes her head, no remorse on her face showing. "If you want to be like me, you have to have a cold heart, and yours isn't cold enough."
I knew then what she was doing, and it was something I wanted to kill her for. She was directing the cold stream to my heart, and I could feel then how slow it was starting to beat. My eye lids begin to grow heavy as I beg for her to stop, but I knew she wouldn't no matter what. I should have just given her the damn ring back.
It wasn't long after that my heart stopped beating all together.

Present
I hadn't heard from Hunter in more than a few hours, and I was starting to grow curious on where he could possibly be. I wasn't going to search Central City for him though; I wasn't that desperate to see him again. He'd show up eventually, and I'd be sitting here waiting.
I was only waiting for him when I heard a car horn go off outside, so of course I went to investigate. I figured that it was a group of kids or something messing around, but when I went out there to find out, it wasn't that at all. To my surprise, there was some sort of man standing there wearing ripped clothing, heaving huge breaths as he rips the car door off of a Jeep.
"Hey!" I shout, knowing that he must be a meta. I was just wondering what in the world he was doing. It was then he turns and looks over his shoulder at me, making my eyes grow wide. Something about the way his appearance was told me that he wasn't normal; well, I guess more like he wasn't alive.
I thought he was going to come after me, but instead he turns and walks towards Jitters, making me raise an eyebrow. For a moment I wondered if I should go investigate further, but it didn't take long for me to change my mind about that idea. However, when I turned around to run back into the station, I hear a frail voice call out to me, one that I knew belonged to Iris West.
"Raven?" I hear her say, causing me to freeze all together. I don't turn and look at her however, I just stand and listen. She sounded out of breath, as if she was running a long distance. "Raven, I uh...we need your help."
I look over my shoulder then, wondering why in the hell they would need my help. "My help?"
"Yes, well besides the whole zombie thing you might have just witnessed, there's something else we need your help with too," she breathes, talking fast. I fully turn around then, raising my eyebrow for her to continue. A faint smile forms on her face then, but it was weak, yet full of hope. "Barry's alive."
I could have sworn my heart stopped beating then. Hearing those two simple words made everything fade away, and it gave me a sense of hope once again. "W-What, how?"
"He's trapped in the speed force," Iris continues as I feel my legs become wobbly. "We tried getting him out but...he wouldn't come to us."
I gulp. "So, why do you need my help?"
Iris takes a deep breath as she slowly licks her lips. "We think only someone that knows the speed force can get him out; that only someone that Barry cares about most can pull him out, and that...we think that's you."
