45. Dark Side

After letting Jay and Laurel get acquainted, I thought it'd be best for her to show him what she was capable of doing. Jay agreed of course, he loves to see new abilities in action. It was then soon after proposing that idea that I came up with a better one: since Killer Frost was Jay's little slave now, I thought it'd be fun to have Laurel experiment on her. Surprisingly, he agreed.
So, that's where we were going now. Jay ran off to go track down the ice princess while I took Laurel to the dock, a good open space for her to practice at. It was the place I had gone to look for Dust Storm ages ago it felt like, and come to think of it, I haven't seen her in quite some time. I wonder why.
I cross my arms as I sigh, my breath showing in the cold crisp air. Laurel stands there silently as she makes x's in the ground with her foot. "So, you said you came here to get away from someone. What did that mean?"
She looks up at me briefly before looking back down. "It's a long story."
I look around, my eyes searching through the night. "Well at this rate, Zoom will take all night. Might as well use some of that time for a long story."
Laurel stops moving her foot across the ground as she sighs, looking back up while crossing her arms. She shivers slightly before setting her eyes on me, hard as stone. "Before I lived in Star City, I used to live here. I moved here after finishing law school, and I had a good life here. I was working on a case in Star City a few years ago when I met a guy...Davion. Of course we fell in love as you would say and I moved to Star City soon after."
She pauses for a moment as she looks back down at the ground, and I could tell that something was holding her back from telling me more. Curiosity started to get the best of me as I waited for her to continue. After a few more seconds, she grabs the sleeve of her jacket and pulls it up, revealing multiple bruises and hand markings.
"One day, we got in a fight. I can't even remember what the damn argument was about...but the next thing I knew, he was grabbing me and throwing me to the ground." She pauses while taking a deep breath, tears starting to fill her eyes. "He just kept hitting me, and he just laughed. Do you know what that feels like? To be beaten to a pulp while the man you loved was laughing?"
Silence fills the air once again as she rolls her sleeve back down, using the end of it to wipe away the tears falling from her eyes. I stand there in awe as I wait for her to continue, unsure of what to even say to that.
"It continued for months, but I still stayed. He even took up the habit of drinking again, which only promised me more scars. It wasn't until yesterday I finally got away and left...I didn't have anywhere else to go, so I came here, back to Central City. Then you found me, and now here I am, standing with one of the most feared villains that claims that they're going to help me."
For the first time in awhile, I felt sorry for her. Something about her story triggered something inside of me that I forgot I had: compassion. I kept imagining being in her position, and it only made me grow angry. I was angry at the man who did this to her, and I was angry at myself for caring so damned much about someone I barely knew.
"I lost both of my parents when I was eleven," I state simply without thinking, unsure of where I was going with this. "That feeling of abandonment and heartache...it was something I couldn't take. Zoom saved me that night and made me who I am today, and we're going to help you too. Channeling that darkness is the key to helping yourself, Laurel. Let it take over; let it consume you. That side of me was the only part of me left after my parents died, and that was what saved me, not Zoom. Use that anger you have to make you stronger."
Laurel nods her head simply as she stares at me, her eyes taking everything in. I could tell that my words triggered something inside of her, and I couldn't wait to see what she could do after hearing that. I knew what I spoke about was the truth, not only for me, but for her too.
I turn my head then when I see a flash of blue lightning appear from the dock, flashing over towards us before stopping. Standing in its place was Zoom, along with Killer Frost, an unhappy look on her face. Her eyes flash silver when she sees me again, but I can't help but smile. I noticed as well that her hair was already grown back in the patches where she had ripped out, which only amused me even more.
"This is...Caitlin Snow?" Laurel asks, pointing towards her.
Zoom releases her then as she brushes off her outfit, anger radiating off of her. "My name is Killer Frost."
"Her name doesn't matter right now," Jay says as he backs away from her. "She's only here for target practice."
Killer Frost glares at all of us before I look back over at Laurel. "You're up. Scream away."
I cross my arms as I glance over at Jay, seeing his eyes completely fixed on Laurel. Killer Frost stands there with hate in her eyes as Laurel adjusts her stance, taking a deep breath as she does so. It doesn't take her long before she's opening her mouth for a scream, letting it all out just like how she had with me earlier tonight.
Sound waves radiate from her scream as they travel towards Killer Frost, hitting her hard. She flies back a good ten feet before rolling across the ground, her hands gripping at her ears. Laurel leans back as she takes a deep breath, smiling at herself slightly.
"Incredible," Jay breathes through his mask as Killer Frost groans, clearly unable to hear anything after being hit with that scream. "Raven was right, you do have a gift."
Laurel grins after that remark, but it was darker than the first time I had seen her smile. I could already tell that we were looping her in on our side, and she was enjoying it.
I couldn't help but smirk.

Present
Rubble topples behind me as I dodge another scream from Laurel, using my super speed I borrowed from Barry. She's been trying to knock me off of my feet now for five minutes with little to no success. I was too fast for her; she should have already knew that.
"Looks like you've only gotten slower since the last time I've seen you," I remark as I brush my hair out of my face. "The Black Siren I knew would at least get close."
Laurel's face turns into rage as she screams once more, this time getting a little closer to me. I dodge it once again as the sound waves travel and hit the wall of the building, causing it to shake. I hold my ground as I stay on my feet, whipping my eyes back to Laurel.
"My turn," I mumble under my breath as I race towards her, using my leg to kick out her feet from under her, causing her to fall to the ground. After this, I grab her by the wrist and fling her into one of the concrete posts, her body falling still as it hits the ground.
I walk over to her slowly, my eyes staying locked on her. "Remember who taught you everything you know; remember who knows every single one of your weaknesses and moves. You can't beat me, Laurel. Just give up now before this goes too far."
She turns her head and looks up at me then, hate behind her eyes. "My name isn't Laurel."
I grit my teeth as I start to make another move on her, but instead, she turns her head towards the ground and lets out another scream. I don't have time to run as the ground underneath me shatters, causing me to fall completely through the floor and to the next bottom level. It wouldn't have been that bad of a fall if it weren't for the fact that the ground was concrete, making the landing so much worse.
I lay there for a moment as I start to get up, but when I do, I feel something in my shoulder pop and twist. A gasp escapes my throat as I try to move my arm, but it wouldn't budge. I must have broken it or popped it out of it's socket, but either way, it hurt like a bitch.
My eyes trail up then to see Laurel jumping down from the upper level onto my level, a smug look on her face. She walks over to me while her heels click on the floor, making me grit my teeth. "Need I remind you that you were the one who casted me out, Raven. You were the one who ruined everything between us, not me. You may know some of my tricks, but you sure as hell don't know this one."
I can't help but lay there and watch as she extends her arms as if she was using them to force the sound waves towards me, but it was in a different type of way. Instead of the sound waves traveling towards me in a straight line, they somehow bunch together to hit me all at once, hurting way more than the last time I had remembered.
A ringing sound echoes in my ears then, and I couldn't help but scream and try to cover them with the palms of my hands. Laurel smirks as she hits me once again with this same tactic, but it was impossible for me to get up and get away. My shoulder wouldn't let me, and suddenly, I was scared.
"R-Raven!" I hear a voice shout in my ear. Even with the feed cutting in and out, I knew that it was Cisco. "You have to get back up on your feet; you can't keep letting her hit you with blows like this! She'll kill you-"
The feed cuts out once again as Laurel screams, the high pitch sound ringing in my ears starting to hurt more and more. For a moment I lie there and wonder to myself if I deserved this; I was the one who did this to her...I was the one who turned her into this monster. I deserved to die for what I had done to her.
However, just before she can hit me once again with one of her cries, I hear another type of high pitched ringing sound in my ears, but it wasn't from her. It takes me a moment to realize that it was the frequency that Barry was sending out...it was actually working.
Laurel falls to her knees then as she covers her ears, trying desperately hard to block out the sound. I can't help but smile as I look over at her, feeling the same type of pain as her, but enjoying it more now that she was experiencing it too.
Cisco had given me headphones before I came out here for when they send out the frequency, but I didn't want to put them on. Something inside of me told me that I needed to suffer, especially for what I had done to Laurel. I created her; I deserved to at least suffer with her.
I hear Cisco scream in my coms to put on the headphones, but I couldn't help but smile as everything fades away, Laurel being the last thing I see before darkness.
