7. Start of Time
"What?" Barry says, his eyes flicking from Cisco back to me. I take a step back, not sure what to say. I couldn't tell if they were putting all of the pieces together in their heads or if they were just confused. "What do you mean he said her name?"
Cisco extends his arm, pointing at me. "I know what I heard. Jay was standing there wearing Zoom's costume, and just after he removed his mask, he mumbled something but all I could catch was Raven and Silver Trickster."
I gulp, ready to run if I needed to. I decided to stick around and wait for this play out; I could still be on the inside if I played the right cards here. Barry steps in front of me then, his eyes locked with mine. "What is he talking about, Raven?"
I open my mouth, the words taking a second to form in my mouth. "Barry, I'm just as confused as you. I didn't even think he knew my name."
Barry narrows his eyes, starting to let up a little. "You don't know what Silver Trickster means either?"
I shake my head. "No, I mean...that was the name of someone back on my earth, but no one knew really anything about her. She was too fast to get a photo of. Maybe Zoom—I mean Jay, is working with her? I really don't know, Barry."
Wells steps in then. "She's right, Barry. Silver Trickster's a villain back on my earth; she's just as mysterious as Zoom himself."
Barry's eyes don't leave mine; finally clearing. They were still angry, but no longer directed towards me. It was at Jay. "I just don't understand why he would say your name, Raven. I'm sorry...I just can't trust anyone without being betrayed."
Suddenly, I actually felt bad, and I hated it. "I'm sorry, Barry."
He starts to walk away then, throwing his hand in the air at us. "I just...I need some time."
And then he was gone.
It wasn't until then I realized Caitlin was crying, presumably because of her "boyfriend" being Zoom. I wanted so badly to scream at her that none of that was real and that it didn't matter, but she already knew that. Crying wouldn't help. Crying makes you look weak and pathetic.
After a few seconds of everyone standing in silence, they all started to leave one by one. Iris and Joe left first, then Caitlin, then Cisco, and then Wells, until it was just me standing there. Standing there made me realize that I just had avoided almost being caught, but it didn't feel like a win.
Why did I feel bad about it?

Sitting there at the table, staring at the food on my plate, made me realize that I really hated spaghetti.
Either I ate it too much back at home, I wasn't hungry right now, or I was excited yet nervous at what Jay had told me before running away. Just after he gave me my dinner for the night, he told me to eat up fast and that he'd be back for a surprise. I wanted to know what it was, but I couldn't stomach looking at this spaghetti right now. It didn't look appetizing.
I must have been sitting there longer than I had thought, because soon enough, Jay was back standing in the room, frowning at me. "Not hungry?"
"I don't think I like spaghetti," I turn my nose up, dropping my fork. "Can I still see what the surprise is though?"
Jay smiles faintly, but in a crazy type of way. "I guess so. Come here."
I quickly push myself away from the table and hop down out of my chair, making my way over to Jay as he turns and walks into another room, expecting for me to follow. I do so as my eyes scan everything all over again, feeling as if it was the first time I've been in here, but that was a lie. I've explored this whole place fifteen times out of boredom.
The only room I've never been in was Jay's room, which was exactly where he was leading me.
Something in my gut twisted. "Jay-"
"Come on, it's in here," he motions to me as he walks through the door, but I was trying to figure out what to expect. For some reason, in my mind, I pictured darkness and terrible things inside, but I was more than wrong.
Jay's room was something I never would have expected. When I stepped inside, the scent of men's fragrance instantly came to my nose. The smell reminded me of my father. After the scent came the pictures I saw on the wall; ones of Jay with people I didn't know.
He continues to walk into the room farther before opening a cabinet up, doing something that I couldn't see. My eyes dance across the space, taking in each and every photo and object as if I was never going to see it again, which might be true.
"Jay?" I breathe, staring at one of the photos on the wall of him and another girl. "Who are all of these people?"
Jay doesn't even look back at me. "People from a past life. They don't matter anymore."
Something in my mind made me say it before I could stop myself. "What happened to them?"
He stops rummaging through the cabinet as he looks back at me, a look washing across his face I've never seen before. "I said they don't matter anymore."
I bite my tongue then, knowing I stepped over some type of line. He stares at me for a long moment before turning back and doing whatever he was doing before, but I continued to look around at the photos. The one that stuck out to me most was one of him and some girl smiling into the camera, looking to be at some park. It was weird to see Jay smiling like that.
"Here," he says, snapping me from my little daze. I look back and see that he was now standing in front of me, holding out a set of clothes. "Put them on."
I grab them, holding them up to see that it was a black pair of pants, a black shirt, and a black hat. He then hands me a pair of shoes, which were also black, but made out of a different type of material I wasn't used to. It reminded me of Jay's suit.
"What's this?" I ask faintly, remembering how Jay was mad at me seconds ago. I didn't want to say the wrong thing again.
He nods towards it. "It's apart of the surprise. Put it on and meet me back in the kitchen, okay?"
I watch him as he walks around me and shuts the door behind him, leaving me alone in his room. I stare down at the clothes in my hands, still curious as to what all of this was about.
But I knew I was about to find out.

"Jay, what is this place?" I say, staring at the tall building in front of me. There was a flashing light at the top that said something I couldn't read; curse my terrible eyes.
Jay places his hand on my shoulder. "That part doesn't matter; what matters is what we're here for."
I turn and look up at him. "What are we here for?"
"Someone owes me," he growls lowly, looking back up at the building. "And I'm here to get it. I thought it would be nice for you to tag along."
I stare ahead of me for a minute before shaking my head. "I don't think I want to do this-"
"You've been practicing for a reason, Raven," he says to me, kneeling in front of me as he looks into my eyes. "Remember, you're apart of something bigger than yourself. You were given a gift. You have to use it."
I bite my lip. "What if I hurt someone?"
Jay doesn't answer me for a moment. He was thinking of what to say. "Don't worry about that. You're here to see what you're made of and to watch and learn. Okay?"
I nod my head sternly. "Okay."
"Try and keep up," he nods at me before he turns into a flash of blue lightning, running inside. I take a deep breath before racing off after him, scared that I would lose him if I didn't run faster. He was faster than me, but I managed to keep up as best as I could.
When I finally caught up with him, we were standing on the top floor of the building, standing in something that looked like the science lab at school...I missed school. I see Jay then standing there yelling at some lady with a white lab coat on, but I hid behind a counter before she could see me.
I watch with wide eyes, not sure what to think. Jay had his mask on now, his voice altered too...the same voice that I had first heard after my parents were taken. "Where is it!"
The lady takes a step backwards. "Listen, it's not ready yet-"
"It should be ready," Jay hisses, blue lightning still dancing around his skin. "It better be ready."
She holds her hands up, her face looking more calming than I thought it would have been. "Just give me more time, okay? I promise you I'll have it ready by then. Please."
Jay takes two steps closer to her then, his face in hers. I can feel the tension in the room before Jay whispers lowly, making goosebumps rise on my arms. "You're lying."
The lady is quick to answer. "What? No I'm not-"
"Where is it!" Jay booms before grabbing her by the throat, her gasps filling my ears. A part of me felt bad for her, but another part knew she deserved it. That's what Jay said. Jay's on the good side here.
The lady coughs, trying to get a breath of air, but obviously can't. "I-It's i-in the t-top left cabin-net."
Jay cocks his head at her before dropping her to the ground, zooming off to where she told him, and then racing back to her face. He holds up three vials of something I wasn't sure of, but I wasn't going to ask. I didn't want to step over another line. Jay was very quiet about his work.
"Lie to me again, and you won't have a tongue to lie with," Jay hisses as the girl nods stiffly, terrified now. I guess she lost her courage from earlier.
Jay glances over in my direction then before he races off, expecting me to follow. I almost started running, but I stopped when I looked over at the girl and saw her crying. Something about watching her made me wonder if whatever Jay just did was the right thing to do, but it had to of been, right? Jay knows what he's talking about.
I turn and run off after Jay then, finding him back down outside of the building where we had been a few moments ago. I stop in front of him as he rips his mask off. "I thought you were faster than that?"
"I had a bad start," I lie, worried that he would sense it, but he didn't.
He takes a deep breath, shoving those vials he just obtained into his pocket. "And that, Raven, is how you deal with liars and manipulators."
I stare up at him, not sure what to say. "Was this my surprise?"
He looks down at me, a little smile spreading across his face. "Yeah. I thought that maybe now you can start coming along with me, since you seem to always be bored when I'm gone. You've practiced enough I think to where you can help out. Plus, it's a good learning experience."
I wasn't sure what to think about the surprise. It wasn't what I was expecting at all, but it was better than sitting back at that table all day. I put a smile on my face as I wrap my arms around Jay. "Thank you."
He stands there for a moment before wrapping his arms back around me. "For what?"
"For giving me purpose."

LMAO you guys thought Raven was getting busted, but nope. Not yet...she's not close enough to do some real damage yet.
Cute little Raven and Jay stuff going on though...well, I guess as cute as villains can get. I hope I got the point across that Raven used to be innocent before Jay influenced her mind. After writing this, I realized that they remind me a lot of Harley and the Joker, only not an actual relationship.
But yeah, vote and comment guys!
