January 10th

Dear Haley,

You won't believe this!!! Guess what I got for Christmas?! Well, not really for Christmas, but I got it around Christmas.

A letter from that University in upstate New York, you remember, St. Mark's. Guess what?! Remember that Science Summer Camp for twelfth graders? They saw my winning project from the state Science Fair, and they invited me to attend it!! Can you believe it? Eight weeks at St. Mark's University in their elite science program!

I guess that's my best gift. I can't wait to go! I know my older brother and I were supposed to stay in the city with our Grandma, but change of plans! Clare is taking my ticket. I know that seven's a bit young to spend a summer away from home, but whatever. So I'm sorry we can't spend summer together. But, you understand what a huge opportunity this is, right? I know you, my best friend will.

Christmas was great. I miss you and our tree visit, too. I can't wait until February break (or summer, I'm still so excited). Really Marisa left the table? Wow. Write back soon!
