"H–hey!" I laughed nervously. "It's been a while."
Giancarlo crossed his arms. "I see you're still rudely using my shit,"
I scoffed. "This is a bathroom."
"It's my bathroom. This is how you walk into people half naked."
I glared at him. "I see you're still an asshole."
Giancarlo chuckled, showing off his fine-ass smile. He was wearing a white button-up, a couple of buttons undone with a gold chain. "Rightfully so, don't you think?"
"No. It's been six years and you don't want to be cordial."
Giancarlo scoffed. "Cordial? I don't do 'cordial' with my little sister's friends." He said it was so ridiculous to let whatever happened six years ago go. "Maybe act like a guest, Azura. It'll get you places that aren't underneath your best friend's older brother." He smirked, but he was walking away, so something that wasn't a scowl on his face was only a passing memory.
"Fucking asshole." I took a deep breath, realizing my heart was beating faster than it should. He made me nervous, but I pushed through and acted accordingly even though he was fucking teasing me. He said my name so...sinfully.
So, in conclusion, he belongs in hell.
As I was walking back to the table, I realized I should at least tell Jolie. She'd probably take it better than Siara. I sat in between Marisol and Siara and began immersing myself in conversation.
"Azura, darling, your father tells me you've decided to take after him in the business route." Siara's mother, Ella, addressed me. Giancarlo's mom divorced their father and left without a trace. Valerie's mom died when Valerie was four and Ella was a waitress at McDonald's at the right time. Giancarlo and Val wanted McDonald's and Ella was there to deliver, which had Mr. Barnardi's head spinning.
Ella has two children from a previous marriage, but they were living in the UK.
Siara's always been a little bit distanced from her older brother. She says that Giancarlo is bitter about his mother leaving him and sometimes when she was very little she used to hear Giancarlo and his father argue in Italian and Giancarlo would blame Mr. Barnardi.
I don't know about it now though. Back then we used to have confessions, but it stopped because..we got older. Jolie's confessions would always be about how insignificant she felt around her three older sisters.
Jolie's father, Mr. Reyes had a little trouble finding the one. Jolie only has half-siblings. Her older sisters, Tiara, Celestial, and Yuri are all not from the same mom, and then Jolie's younger siblings, Kaila and Levi, are from the same mom, the woman that Mr. Reyes finally married, Taylor.
Kaila and Levi aren't here. They're still in high school and college.
I smiled, nodding. "Yeah, I want to take over for my dad one day,"
"That's impressive," Mr. Barnardi said, chuckling. "You can intern under Giancarlo."
Marisol and Mateo snickered as my eyes turned into wide saucers. "I–um.."
"I'm busy," Giancarlo replied, unbothered by what his father had just suggested.
"Nonsense!" Mr. Barnardi said. "You should help her reach her potential."
Giancarlo side-eyed his father discreetly but sighed. "Fine."
Fine?! Nothing is fine. Why couldn't he say no?
"We should also be discussing Jolie and Mateo's marriage right after Valerie's," Celestial said, winking at a blushing Jolie.
"Ah, yes," Mr. Reyes smiled proudly. "You've raised a fine son, Alejandro."
Dad chuckled. "You have also raised a fine daughter, Benedito."
"Ugh, stop with the lovey-doveyness old men." Marisol teased, causing everyone to chuckle...except for Giancarlo...and me.
I was deliberately looking at him, trying to catch his attention so he could back out of what he had just agreed to. I couldn't say no and look ungrateful, so he had to do it. Giancarlo was not looking my way and it was pissing me off.
Mateo sighed. "You can only talk about it when I put a ring on her finger, stop making her nervous." Jolie and him giggled as he stuck his tongue out at Celestial.
"You're nervous about talk of your marriage but not sticking your tongue down your best friend's brother's throat?" Siara asked, genuinely surprised.
The table went silent for a moment as Jolie gaped at her. "What are you...?"
"Siara, basta subito con queste sciocchezze!" (stop this nonsense immediately.)
Ella frowned at her daughter but said nothing.
Siara shrugged. "Just–"
"Sorry we're late," Valerie's voice cut off Siara's. Everyone turned to look at her, her brown hair in curls cascading down her back and her backless red gown contrasting beautifully against her creamy skin, hugging her curves. Her makeup was always on point, Valerie had a natural talent when it came to makeup. The man beside her was...sigh.
You know those times in a movie when something doesn't go as planned and there is this zipper-like sound? That's what happened when I saw Valerie's man.
He was...not attractive. He looked more annoying than anything, those people who think they're confident and cocky in a hot way, but they're annoying, disgusting–I'm sorry the man looks sleazy.
Jolie didn't look impressed either.
"Hello, family, and thank you for coming," Valerie said gleefully as she and the man sat down. "This is my fiance, Mateo Carbello,"
Jolie snickered as Mateo, my brother, frowned. "Ah, shit we got the same fucking name."
"Mateo." Lucia scolded, narrowing her eyes on him.
Mateo Carbello smiled, of course, with golden grills in his teeth. "Nice to meet you all, I hope I can prove my love for your daughter."
Mr. Barnardi cleared his throat as Ella looked at the man, appalled.
I mean if you could see the dining room, everyone was appalled, and you'd be too, because Valerie is a goddess on earth...and then Mateo Carbello, looked like a thief high on drugs and put in an expensive suit he would later on steal.
I almost laughed at the thought.
"Excuse me," Mr. Barnardi called out. "Valerie and I need to speak."
Valerie looked nervous. "Papa...."
She knew she fucked up.
"Andiamo." (Let's go.) Mr. Baranardi angrily got up from his seat and walked off and as expected, Valerie followed suit.
Giancarlo with disgust, side-eyed the man Valerie fell 'in love' with.
Taylor shoved Mr. Reyes and he cleared his throat. "I think that it's best if we give Tommaso and his family some privacy."
"Yes," my dad rumbled in agreement.
"Why? We can...enjoy the time while they talk. I'm sure he just being a regular annoying ass dad, nothing I haven't handled." Mateo Carbello smirked, winking at us.
Jolie and her sisters sneered at him, Siara shook her head and I covered my mouth.
Ella shook her head, standing up. "I have to follow up on what Benedito said, we n—need some privacy."
Everyone started leaving, but Jolie and I stayed. "Estaré bien Marisol." (I'll be fine, Marisol.) I spoke in Spanish so Giancarlo wouldn't understand.
Marisol nodded, tossing the keys to Mateo. He kissed Jolie goodbye and winked, teasingly, at me.
I ignore him, saying my goodbyes to Jolie's sister and seeing my dad and Lucia. I ran back as soon as I was done, back to Jolie and Siara.
"How could you be so selfish!" Siara yelled at Jolie. "Speaking about something totally irrelevant when my sister is literally marrying an excuse of a man!" She whispered-yelled the last part.
Valerie's man wasn't here anymore but he's still in the house. Somewhere.
"You called me out rudely at the table and all I'm saying is not to do it again. I felt embarrassed." Jolie said in a calm manner.
I frowned, walking toward them. "Guys what—"
"It's embarrassing and I'm glad you noticed it. You're whoring around with Azura's older brother—freely out and open."
Jolie's eyes went glossy. "S—Siara, Mateo and I are adults and Azura doesn't even care."
"She's right," I stepped in. "It doesn't even matter if I cared. I should only care about the happiness of my brother and my friend."
Siara scoffed. "I don't care. It's wrong." She glared at the both of us. "If you're so happy Jolie, why are you so worried about Mateo putting a ring on your finger? Because you know it will never happen. It's pathetic how you chase after him." She brushed past the both of us, walking upstairs. Once she was out of earshot, Jolie let her tears out.
"Oh, Jolie, you know she doesn't mean that," I hugged her tightly as she sobbed.
"Are you mad at me because of my being with Mateo?"
I shook my head. "No, of course not."
Jolie sniffled, wiping her tears. "She's right, I should break up with Mateo. He's probably with me because of pity—"
"No!" I gasped. Siara was wrong. Mateo loves Jolie, he loves her attentiveness and her clinginess. He loves everything about her. He has the ring but he's scared of Jolie's response. How am I supposed to tell her?! Proposals are supposed to be a surprise.
"Um, he's not, I promise you, Jolie. He talks about you all the time in a good way. He loves the way you care for him and he's always ready to be there for you too. Siara is hurt and now she's trying to hurt you. I'm sure she's sorry."
Jolie frowned but nodded. She didn't say anything else. "Ok," was all she said, before picking up her stuff, hugging one last time, and leaving.
"Goddamn it, Siara." I whispered.
A deep chuckle came from behind me. "You're in big trouble when she finds out."
I turned around pointing my glare at Giancarlo. "Which is why she won't find out because as you told me to do, I stayed the fuck away from you."
Giancarlo didn't give anything away, he only gazed at me as if I was naked....underneath him again. "How will you do that when you're my intern?"
"Why did you agree to that?!" I groaned, rubbing my face.
"I'd rather get it over with than have my father down my neck. Keep your clothes on and we won't have a problem."
I scoffed in disbelief. "If you have a memory problem, old man, let me remind you that you were naked, you jumped me, you fucked me—"
"Careful." Giancarlo chuckled. "Don't want Siara hearing you, no?"
I sneered. "Fuck you."
Giancarlo sighed. "Been there, done that."
My eyes burned with tears that he regarded sleeping with me for the first time like that. It was embarrassing. "You're a fucking asshole," I glared.
Giancarlo gave me a careless look before walking away.
I should just leave. Siara would just end up taking her anger out on me.
Have a great sunday and see you next Sunday
